On the 5th of March 2006, Darien and Serena's only daughter Rini turned 17. It was also the day Serena died and left her family behind. After days of mourning, Rini writes her mother a poetic letter to express how she feels about life and death.
Dear Mama,
I use to fear death and then I realized it was because I feared life. It was a cycle I didn't understand for a while. I tried to find an answer. I asked questions and read the bible, but I felt it was not enough. Everyone said not to think about death, but I asked why? Why do we have to wait for death to take us by surprise? I realized death is a topic that no one wants to discuss. But I've asked, Why don't we embrace death as we do life? Some might think this is crazy, some might believe this true, but I finally found an answer by seeing it in you. Life and death are two different worlds, one in which we live and the other in which we live forever.
In your life, I realized that life is like a rose. It's temporary. It's youth and beauty are temporary, things in life are all transitory. But I've learned through your life, a life can be an inspiration. Life is a preparation for death. Your good deeds have always shined through and I've always looked up to you. And everyone adores you mommy. I believe your life is God's greatest gift to humanity, it is my bible of life, for if it wasn't for your soul that enriched me with sight, I've would have never been able to appreciate my own life.
I'll always love you mama,
Your daughter, Rini
P.S. : Daddy, Aunties Amy, Raye, Lita, Mina, and Luna & Artemis misses you too. We all love you.
