Chapter One: Solitary Mistakes
Every process has a genesis that ends with the revelation, "God bless this opportunity."
"So, Dad?" A young boy called his father, he couldn't have been much older than 14 years old. The older and scruffy looking man turned around to face his son seated at his lab chair and inspecting all the different files and chemicals that laid upon his desk.
The man smiled, "Yes, Izuku?" He replied, walking over to his son looking over the images in the files. The subject that he was currently looking at was a very important piece of research funded to help the future betterment of quirked society.
Izuku, however, wasn't one of the 80% of the world that had been blessed with quirks from a young age. No, unfortunately he was born quirkless, an oddity to both his father and mother who were of the 80%, but they loved him no less. In fact, the boy's father made it a point to always tell Izuku to never give up on his dreams.
"What's with those spiders in the file? Have you actually finished these…" He paused and looked over the file once more to read off the name of the project. "Genetically Modified Singularity Control Devices?"
"Ah, well… Sorta? We have the genetically modified spiders, but they're still in the testing phase." His father explained, turning and pointing to a few cages placed within the shelves of his office. "They were quirked animals, and you know how rare those are… But why do you ask?"
"A-Ah, sorry, I didn't mean to intrude or anything-"
"No, it's fine. I'm just a little surprised is all, normally you're all about quirks and heroes." His father exclaimed, chuckling softly as he ruffled his son's hair. "It's nice to have you interested in what I do for a change."
"Well, I am the son of a scientist. I like this kinda stuff too, I just like heroics even more because you're a boring old man." Izuku joked, causing his father to give him a rather annoyed look as he laughed joyfully. "Relax, I'm just kidding!"
"Geez, what am I gonna do with you…" His father mumbled, sighing before he gestured for his son to follow him to the shelves. "Come, I'll show you what we're working on."
Walking over to join his father, Izuku peered into the cages containing the spiders, many of which were just sitting idly barely moving at all. Their limbs seemed bioluminescent, yet they were your average small spider.
"Woah, they're glowing!" Izuku exclaimed, staring into the many eyes of the spiders. "Is their quirk related to their bioluminescence?"
"No actually. That's a side effect of genetic modification and radiation." His father explained, reaching to open up the Spider's cage with Izuku watching and listening attentively. "Actually, we're not even sure what their quirks are yet. It's a different department that focuses on that."
"Ah, so you guys are just here to look for results; The guinea pigs." Izuku joked once more, chuckling as his father opened the caged door. Unfortunately, this was just what the spider had been waiting for, the perfect opportunity. The spider lunged out at the men, causing them to shield their faces as the spider landed on Izuku's hand, biting into it and releasing it's venom before being squashed and swatted away. "Augh! I think it bit me!"
"Here, let me take a look." The boy's father instructed, taking the greenette's hand as he closely inspected the spider bite. "It should be relatively harmless, but… This could be dangerous, we don't know if there will be any side effects due to the radiation. We need to get you to a hospital and-"
A sudden loud noise shook the entire building, knocking over chemicals and papers and bringing the two men down to their knees. Something must have been happening inside of the building, perhaps even a villain attack!
"Dad! What's going on!?" Izuku exclaimed, running over to his father and helping him to his feet. Adrenaline began to pump through the greenette's body and his senses were screaming at him to get the hell out of there.
"Either a breach, or… A villain has entered the facility. We need to get out of here!" The man explained, rising to his feet with the help of his son before stumbling through the door leading out of his office with Izuku following closely behind him.
"Professor Hisashi!" A voice called, signalling the two men to one of Hisashi's colleagues approaching from the left on his way to the exit of the building. "Are you and your son alright!? A villain has found their way in, and they're tearing apart the facility! We have no idea what they're after, but security advised us to evacuate immediately while the police contain the perimeter!"
"Wait, a real villain attack? Here!? I have to go see it, what if there are some heroes already on the job!" Izuku commented attempting to head towards the sight of the commotion, only to be snatched back by his collar thanks to his father's quick thinking.
"You will do no such thing! Come on, we're getting out of here before whatever's here finds us!" Hisashi scolded, yanking his son along as he and all three men present made a break for the exit, stumbling as the loud noises and shaking from the building grew closer.
"Shit! I think the villain's getting closer to us, what should we do, Professor? I don't think we'll make it out of here before it catches us!" Hisashi's colleague exclaimed fearfully. Hisashi grit his teeth in annoyance as he tried to think of some kind of plan to get them all out of the building safely, but he couldn't think of anything.
"I… For once, I'm not sure, Akemi. We just have to keep going and pray we can make it out of here alive." Hisashi instructed, turning to his son with remorse. He couldn't find a single way to save them all, but perhaps at the very least he could save his son's future.
Pivoting on his heel, Hisashi shoved his son into a random office, Izuku watching horrified as he fell to the ground inside the office. Hisashi gave his son an apologetic look before he chose his next words.
"D-Dad..? Dad, what are you doing!?" Izuku questioned, distraught in his tone breaking his father's heart. Through the glass pane of the door a click could be heard as Hisashi broke the automated lock and sealed his son inside the room.
"I-I… I'm sorry son, this is the only way I can ensure your safety. Please just hide, and never forget that I love you. Live out your dreams, son, don't let your dream die here. Become a hero the public deserves like you always wanted. Now hide!" Hisashi instructed, running away from the door with his colleague to keep the villain distracted for as long as possible. A sudden rumbling alerted Izuku to the villain's presence, and per his father's instructions he hid beneath one of the tables in the office he resided in.
"Professor, was that the right choice? He's your son!" Akemi commented, running along with the professor as they changed course for the main hall of the research lab. If they couldn't escape, they could at least stall for time until the heroes arrived on the scene.
"Please, if I know anything about my son, he won't stay in there for long. He'll find a way out, that's all I can hope for." Hisashi stated proudly, he knew that Izuku wasn't going to let this situation ruin him, but at the very least he could keep him as far away from danger as possible.
"Ah, researchers! Just what I was looking for!" A deep voice exclaimed from a distance, turning to investigate the two researchers were met with the grotesque appearance of a large slime-like man approaching them. His large body destroyed lights and walls as he approached them and the two researchers made a run for it. They needed to get to the main hall. "Oi! You can't run from me, meat sacks!"
'Please be safe, Izuku…'
'Shit! What am I supposed to do, I can't just leave my dad in danger like that, I need to get out of here!' Izuku thought, investigating the room for an alternate way out as he couldn't pry the broken door open enough to squeeze through.
Walking around the office, Izuku spotted an air vent that was rather high up, but it was definitely big enough for him to crawl through. Jackpot.
"Ah, there! Question is, how am I going to get up there…" He mumbled, placing his hand against the wall as he looked around the room for a ladder, or any stackable objects. "Doesn't seem to be anything there…"
Attempting to move away from the wall, Izuku felt his hand yanked and he nearly fell to the ground, only being propped up by his hand mysteriously sticking to the concrete wall.
"What the hell..?" Izuku pondered aloud as he straightened himself out, tugging on his hand that was now attached to the wall before him. "What the hell!? Come off!"
Suddenly a chunk of concrete was ripped off the wall along with Izuku's hand, and surprisingly it hadn't felt heavy at all. The more surprising party obviously, was the fact that CONCRETE WAS STICKING TO HIS HAND!
"Okay, okay, um… Don't panic, Izuku. Just try to calm down and you can figure out an explanation for this and get through the vent- Dad! That's right, I don't have time to be worrying about this!" Izuku mumbled, before snapping out of his trance. "I can stick to walls now, maybe I can figure out a way to get up there…"
As he calmed down the concrete was released from his hand with a loud thud as it cracked into pieces after making contact with the ground. Izuku's eyes widened in surprise as he smiled with a newfound determination.
"I'm coming for you, dad."
"You have nowhere to run! I need answers, where are the GMSCD files!?" The massive villain shouted, holding the two researchers up in the air with it's disgusting sewage-like tendrils. "TALK! NOW!"
"W-We…" Hisashi started, attempting to pry the man's slime tendrils away from his neck so that he could speak, but to no avail. That wouldn't stop him from giving this villain what for. "W-Well, you're gonna have a tough time finding it, not even I know, slimy bastard..!"
"LIAR! You're trying to buy time, if you don't start talking…" The villain started, raising Hisashi's colleague up into the air and tightening his hold around his neck threateningly. "I'll have a new fleshy disguise to work with!"
"No..! Akemi!" Hisashi shouted out in fear as he watched his associate's body dangling in the air, he couldn't breath and Hisashi could tell, but telling him where the files are could jeopardize all of society! They needed to keep this away from a villain like him!
"D...Don't tell him! I-I've lived… More than enough. You can't let him have it, professor…" The asphyxiating Akemi stated, staring into Hisashi's eyes warily as he braced himself for the snapping of his own neck, but it never came.
"HANDS OFF!" A voice shouted, before vent grate shot from seemingly nowhere and nailed the slime villain right in his exposed eye. Crying in pain the villain dropped the two researchers as Hisashi's son slid out of the now opened vent. "Sorry, big guy. These two are with me, I can't have you killing anyone."
"GRR! WHO THE HELL- HOW DARE YOU!" The villain shouted, rubbing his eyes as Izuku made his way over to his father and Akemi to help them up to their feet.
"Come on get up guys, I know you're old, but adrenaline is one hell of a hormone!" Izuku quipped as the two men rose to their feet. Hisashi scowled at his son failing to listen to his prior instructions. Now he was in danger!
"Izuku, what are you doing here! I told you to stay away from here, now you've doomed yourself! He's blocking the only exit out of the main hall!" Hisashi scolded, raising his voice at his son.
"I'm sorry dad, but… My body moved on its own. I couldn't leave you two to die-" Izuku started before a slime tendril slammed straight into his father's chest, caving in his ribcage and launching him a few feet away. As he landed Hisashi's body trembled and the man hacked up blood. "DAD!"
"Looks like you failed anyways, kid! Now you're all gonna die!" The villain interrupted, smiling fiendishly as he now towered over the boy and Akemi. This was it, this was how they were going to die… It was all Izuku's fault…
"It's going to be alright… Why?" A booming voice echoed from behind the villain, turning to face the hallway that the slime villain was blocking the echoey voice and familiar phrase alerted Izuku to who was there, and unfortunately… He showed up far too late. "BECAUSE I AM HERE!"
Suddenly All Might shot through the hallway as the massive windforce from his strike dispersed the slime villain into little sludge pieces all around the hall, but Izuku didn't care about seeing his hero. He didn't care about such an amazing feat from the literal number one hero, no he only cared about how betrayed he felt. How much sorrow was coursing through his veins as he made his way over to his sputtering, dying father.
"Dad…" He called, watching as his father coughed and heaved in an attempt to get the oxygen he so desperately needed. "Dad, just hang on..! We're gonna get you to safety, A-All Might's here! E-Everything's gonna be alright!"
Izuku saw his own tears fall onto his father before Hisashi's eyes opened to look at his son. "Izuku…"
"Dad…" He called once more, sniffling as he tried his hardest to hold back his sobs. "Dad, please…"
"I'm not gonna make it, Izuku… P-Promise me something, son…" Hisashi demanded, reaching his hand up to grip onto his son's arm for leverage. "Be the hero you want to be, but never let my death lead you down a dark path. With great power comes great responsibility, and I… I want the best for you. I don't know how you made it out… But you're more than capable."
Izuku couldn't hold back his sobs any longer, and as he felt his father grow limp in his arms the boy cried his heart out. He cried and shouted, he wanted to curse the world for taking his father from him, but he couldn't. He wouldn't because that's not what his father wanted.
Everything beyond that point was a blur for Izuku. Police questioning, and confrontation with heroes came and went, but he couldn't focus on anything other than the death of his father. This event was going to stick with him, hell, he couldn't even bring himself to come up with any witty remarks.
It was only when Izuku's mother, Inko Midoriya, showed up that he broke down once again and came back to reality. As soon as the two greenette's locked eyes with one another it was nothing but tears, and Inko hugged her son with all her might as the two shared the grievance of a lost loved one.
A father. A husband. But most importantly, a great man.
There was a small funeral service shortly after Hisashi passed, everyone that knew the Midoriya's, or even just knew Hisashi came to pay their respects. Some cried with the family, some could only bow their heads somberly out of respect, but the one person who couldn't show any respect for the life of them was Katsuki Fucking Bakugou.
The blonde complained about being forced to come to some shitty funeral, he complained about having to wear a "shitty suit", he complained about having to be there to support "Shitty Deku's" family. Izuku wanted nothing more than to break the boy down, but he pushed down his rage and let the moment pass.
After the services, Izuku was excused from school for a week to recover from his grieving process, much of which he used to pack up his father's belongings from the now closed research facility. There were still cops making their rounds as he arrived, but what hurt most of all was still seeing the outline of his father's body in the main hall. He couldn't escape the image of his death.
Izuku began to pack his father's belongings, opting to snag a few of the remaining chemicals and other solutions for his own personal research while this facility was closed down for construction and repair. Little did he know that he'd be caught red handed by the last person he'd expect.
"Erm… Excuse me, young man?" A deep voice called, as Izuku felt his brain screaming at him right before the man spoke up. What an odd sensation… "Are you the family of one of the lost researchers?"
Izuku turned towards the tall blond man. He was rather skinny, he almost appeared as a skeleton. "Yeah… My dad was a researcher here. Not to sound rude or anything, but can I help you?"
"Ah, yes actually. I'm here on behalf of All Might to talk to the families and offer some form of counseling." The man explained, stepping closer to the young boy as he lifted a box full of heavy objects rather easily. Odd, he didn't look very strong, but perhaps that was just due to his jacket.
"I don't need it." Izuku said, not even bothering to turn to face the man as some small semblance of rage washed through his body. "He couldn't even be here himself to say sorry for not being able to save everyone. I don't want to hear anything that he has his lackeys say on his behalf." He continued, pausing as he took a deep breath to hold back any tears that threatened to fall. "I lost my father during the incident and he was too late to save him from getting his chest caved in. I don't want to hate All Might, but I can't help but resent him for not being able to do what he's always done. Save people."
A short silence passed between the two men as the man behind Izuku took in his words. "...I'm sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how tough it must have been for you to witness all of that. Rest assured that the loss of everyone in this facility that day weighs heavily on All Might, that's why he couldn't come today. He wouldn't have been able to offer comfort with a smile, he blames himself for all of it."
"Sure doesn't seem like it." Izuku replies, turning towards the man as he moves to take the box he was carrying out to his mom's car. "Listen, I'm sure you're a nice man, but I just… I don't need this right now."
"Right. My apologies for disturbing you during your grieving process, but may I offer you one thing, young man?" The man questioned, reaching into his suit jacket as he pulled out a small card. "My business card. If you ever need help, you'll have my personal number to contact me. I can see in your eyes that there's much turmoil, and I'd be more than happy to offer you any sort of solace during your trying times."
Izuku thought the man's offer over, and deciding to be nice he took the card. Upon further inspection he got a good look at All Might's logo on the card, as well as the man's name followed by a phone number. "Yagi Toshinori?"
"Ah, yes. You can refer to me as whatever's comfortable, but please, never hesitate to give me a call if you need it." He answered, bowing out of respect as he turned to leave, presumably to tell other families the same thing that he told Izuku.
'...Yeah, whatever man. I better hurry up, mom's gotta get to a job interview soon.' Izuku thought, making his way out of his father's now empty office, sighing before a rapid tingling sensation began in the back of his head, and the boy swiftly dodged to the side, a stapler nearly missing his head.
"Oi! You kids need to stop roughhousing! You almost hit that young man!" A mother scolded, dragging her kid along as she entered a nearby office. Another one of the many families here today to clear out offices for their deceased loved ones. She then peaked her head back out and turned to the green haired boy her son almost nailed in the face. "I'm so sorry for their behavior."
"I-It's fine." He stuttered out, waving it off politely as he began making his way out of the building, his mind trying to process that odd tingling sensation he had just felt. Not only was there this odd sensation, but before Izuku could stick to walls… Something was changing within his body, but he couldn't quite figure out what.
'What is happening to me..?'
And here's chapter one of my Spider Izuku fic!
With this I really wanted Hisashi to be a parallel to Uncle Ben, using him to help give Izuku a push in the right direction to fulfill his dreams before his inevitable end.
Izuku during this fic, which you may have already notice, is quite clever and witty, much like how Spiderman operates. (Both Miles, and Peter).
I also feel as though I should explain why directly after being able to climb walls he's not questioning what the fuck is happening to him, uh, HIS DAD DIED. Let the boy grieve. (I'm only really saying that cause I could foresee some people posting some comments about this).
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this chapter, I know I thoroughly enjoyed making this one, and I'll see you all for the next one!
And, as always, if you enjoy my fics, or just IzuJirou as a ship in general, please join this dedicated Discord server created by my friend, UndeadSoldierShady: /BhTv6R57CG
