I'm going to thank Rowlets and Oshawotts for submitting a character. They won't be put into this chapter, but I will be sure to add them in at an appropriate time. Last chapter Damien lost the Nimbasa City contest. And he took it hard. But Ivysaur comforted him, and has now snuck out! By the way, this won't be the only time I go into a Pokemon's perspective, but it won't happen often. When in a Pokemon's perspective, Pokemon will be speaking using words instead of repeating their name. Not that that's a unique concept, but still.
Ivysaur walked out the door into the night. He had to head over to Crystal's house. Ordinarily he'd go get Karek, but based on what he saw from his Pokeball, Damien didn't want to talk to Karek right now. He never really revealed his troubles to those close to him. So Ivysaur went for the next best thing. His crush. Ivysaur knew Damien had a big crush on Crystal, so obvious that even Bagon could see it, and he was very blind to those things. How Crystal had yet to notice it was beyond him.
He continued down the familiar paths into the gated community where Crystal lived. You usually needed an invite to come in, but the guy at the gate knew him because this wasn't the first time Ivysaur had come here on his own. He liked to help with the plants, but that wasn't his mission tonight. He walked through the well-kept streets until he reached the appropriate house. It was large, with an expansive garden, but that was common of the houses here. He walked to the back where a balcony led into Crystal's room. It was right out of a movie.
Ivysaur used his vines to grab onto the railing and pulled himself up with them. He crawled over it to see Crystal sleeping. A cursory glance around her room revealed a large thing covered by a blanket next to her large bed, with a big walk-in closet filled with clothes and shoes and such, with a vanity on the opposite side of the room with a large amount of drawers likely filled with various cosmetics. Other than the rug on the hardwood floor, that was it. Surprisingly sparse. Ivysaur wondered what was under the blanket, but he decided not to look at it. It was probably covered for a reason. Ivysaur looked on the bed where Crystal was sleeping and saw her Froakie snoring right beside her. He reached out a vine to poke him. Nothing. After a few more pokes, the water-type opened his eyes.
"Hrmmm." He said. "What?"
"Froakie, wake up." Ivysaur said.
"Ugh- wait. Ivysaur?" Froakie asked.
"That's me, yes." Ivysaur said.
"What are you doing here?" Froakie asked. "How did you even get here in the first place?"
"I need you to wake up Crystal." Ivysaur said, ignoring his questions.
"Why?" Froakie asked.
"Because Damien is very upset about losing the contest, but he's never going to reveal it to someone." Ivysaur explained. "So I thought if I got his crush to know about it, then he'd open up a little. Obviously he's not going to be very happy about the fact that I'm telling people, but he needs the help right now."
"Sure, I'll help out." Froakie said.
"Cool, just-" Ivysaur started saying but was interrupted when Froakie decided to use Bubble to wake up his trainer, who got up immediately.
"Froakie, what was that for?" Crystal asked, irritated.
"It was him." Froakie said, pointing at Ivysaur.
"Don't point at me, I just asked you to wake her up, not use Bubble on her!" Ivysaur said.
"Why is there an Ivysaur in my room?" Crystal asked. "Froakie, I told you to stop bringing wild Pokemon in here!"
"I'm not wild." Ivysaur said, knowing that Crystal wouldn't be able to understand him.
"Wait, aren't you Damien's Ivysaur?" Crystal asked. Ivysaur nodded. "If you're here, then Damien's probably outside." Ivysaur shook his head. "He's not? Where is he?" Ivysaur wrapped his vine around her hand and dragged her to the edge of the balcony. "I can't go out, my grandparents will kill me." Ivysaur heard a Pokeball open. When he looked, he saw Kadabra out of his ball.
"Excuse me, but the lady can't leave. She needs her rest." Kadabra said.
"And I couldn't care less when my brother is feeling absolutely horrible. So I went to get help."
"I'm certain your problem could've waited until morning." Kadabra said. "And you can then ask the masters of the house."
"Those "masters of the house" wouldn't give a crap about Damien." Ivysaur said. "They'd be perfectly content to let him wallow in his sadness while they sat up here doing nothing about it." "
Pretty similar to your own circumstance, wouldn't you agree?" Froakie said.
"What could you mean by such a statement?" Kadabra asked.
"I mean the fact that you just sit here while you know that Crystal isn't happy with her current situation." Froakie said. "You know she hates that her life has been decided for her, that she hates the constant upkeep, that her grandparents treat her like nothing more than a bargaining tool. You know this and yet you watch. You let it happen. You're supposed to be her friend. Instead, you're a part of the problem. You actively keep her from having fun and do nothing to help her when she needs it."
" I am entirely concerned with her well-being!" Kadabra protested.
"You're nothing but a hindrance to what she wants to be!" Froakie said. Ivysaur widened his eyes. He had not expected to witness this drama tonight. Crystal merely watched as two of her Pokemon argued in front of her.
"I want her to be happy, and connecting with those ruffians in this town will do nothing but hurt her!" Kadabra said.
"It's pretty obvious you know nothing about what Crystal likes." Froakie said.
"And it's obvious that you know nothing of how the world works." Kadabra said. "It makes me wonder why Crystal ever decided to choose you when you cause nothing but trouble. You're a weak trouble-maker with no strength to back up his words."
Froakie stopped him from going further by attacking Kadabra with Water Pulse, a move Ivysaur had never seen him use before. Then Froakie jumped off the balcony and out of the yard.
"Froakie!" Crystal called. Ivysaur jumped into action, wrapping his vines around Crystal's waist and hopping onto the railing.
He looked at Kadabra and said, "You're helping too." Before wrapping a vine around him and jumping off the balcony with both of them in his vines. He released both of them when they landed on the ground, and sprinted after Froakie immediately.
(Time to swap to Crystal's point of view after that hectic scene. Let's see how she handles this.)
Crystal watched Ivysaur run off into the woods after her starter. She hadn't been able to understand what had been said, but it was obvious that Kadabra had hurt Froakie's feelings quite a lot.
"Kadabra." Her Kadabra huffed.
"Kadabra, why?" Crystal asked. "Ivysaur just wanted me to help Damien. I'm not sure what, but he was clearly asking for aid. Come on, we're going to find Froakie." Crystal stood there for a minute. She knew that if she ran off, her grandparents would be mad at her for sneaking off. But she didn't want to leave Froakie out there on his own. Eventually, she made a decision. She ran off into the woods behind the two starters. It wasn't long before she found Ivysaur. He wasn't the fastest pokemon in the world after all. The two of them decided to look for Froakie, as he'd likely climbed into the trees.
"Froakie!" Crystal called. "Froakie, where are you?"
"Ivy! Ivysaur!" Ivysaur called.
"Froakie?" Crystal called. She stopped. "Where did he go?" she whispered to herself. "Froakie, please come out!" She called for him some more, but no words were able to get him to appear. Not to mention Kadabra had stayed behind, unwilling to help Crystal search for her starter. Not to mention that in the rush, she'd been unable to grab her pokeballs. So she was in the forest alone, with an Ivysaur that wasn't hers, looking for a starter that had run away. "Froakie!" she called again. "Come one Ivysaur, let's go in further."
The two of them walked until they found Froakie on a cliff edge, staring into the night sky. "Froakie, there you are." Crystal said, walking up to him. She picked him up and held him. "Froakie, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let Kadabra speak to you that way. I might not know what he said but I know that it hurt you. I should've intervened."
"Froakie…" the Water-type said glumly.
"Come on, let's get back home. It's dangerous out here, and Damien needs our help anyway. That's why his Ivysaur came over." Crystal said. Froakie didn't react. Crystal turned and walked away from the cliff edge when a large group of Woobats flew out from the forest, startling Crystal, causing her to stumble. She tried regaining her balance, but she slipped and fell off the edge, screaming in terror. Ivysaur immediately whipped out his vines, but before he could reach her, Crystal found herself carried by a strange blue glow. Ivysaur's vines wrapped around her after that, but she was lifted primarily by the psychic energy back onto the cliff, away from the edge. When she looked, she saw Kadabra. Blue energy was fading from his eyes as he stared at her as she stepped onto the ground.
"Kie…" Froakie growled.
"Dabra." Kadabra said. Froakie seemed surprised.
"Kie kie froakie." Froakie said to him.
"Kadabra. Dabra Kadabra." Kadabra replied, and handed Crystal's Pokeballs to her. Then he turned, gestured for the three of them to follow him, and walked through the forest.
They walked out of the forest back into Crystal's backyard. "Kadabra, thank you for saving me." Crystal said. Kadabra was silent as he walked to the backyard gate and opened it. "Kadabra..?" Crystal asked. Kadabra motioned for them to go through. He then walked up to Crystal, tapped on his Pokeball, and went inside. "I guess that means Kadabra's letting us through." Crystal walked out the gates. "Well Ivysaur? Lead the way."
And so we have some character development. At least slightly. Not much has actually changed, but Kadabra seems to be a little more lenient now. Which is nice. And Ivysaur is a very sneaky grass type it seems. Wonder if that'll come up again. I'm sure it won't. But now that we're here, that means we need to list a team change.
