This is the last Mermaid Melody pairing I ever thought I would write for a long list of reasons, but listen, Mikeru being creepy in episode 34 was hot, so apparently my brain had to do something with it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Small note: I know Mikaru calls Mikeru 'the person with the white wings' and not an angel but shhh Symbolism

Mikaru realised she had leaned into the phantom touch on her cheek.

'Why am I the only one always alone?' Suffering. Sadness. I understand that pain very well.

Those words. That voice, unnerving but soothing, had spoken them. Maybe it meant she was going mad that she decided to respond to it - but when Mikaru had sunk this far in the first place, surely her mind had already gone.

"You," Mikaru whispered, no longer shaking. "You understand? Does that mean that you're all alone... too?"

"That's right," the voice replied.

"...Who are you?" She asked again, a little louder, still scared to turn around. Mikaru could feel its presence - whatever, whoever it was, there with her, speaking to her. It filled her heart with fear and dread, but why, when it sounded so gentle?

The voice laughed, soft and short.

"Turn around."

Though she was scared, slowly, swallowing her hesitation, she did. And that fear evaporated when she saw the angel there behind her, glowing in a nearly-blinding light. All at once, any remaining worry was absorbed by those bright eyes and faint smile. A gaze that saw nothing but her, surely cared for nothing but her, in that moment. She let out a gasp, tears welling up again.

"You-You're so beautiful." Mikaru felt herself blush. His smile was comforting, making her forget all her sorrow. "Have you... always been here? Watching over me?"

"Yes," the angel said.

"Then... will you stay? If we're both alone, will you at least stay with me?" Mikaru pleaded, hope stirring her heart. "And never leave?"

"Yes," the angel replied again. "If you wish," he told her, "I will never leave you. I will stay with you, forever."

"R...Really? You'll stay with me, forever..." The hope was sprouting, blooming into warmth in Mikaru's chest. "You'll really... really stay, unlike Kaito..."

The angel reached out, and his fingers grazed her cheek again, like the brush of a feather.

Little by little, the space between them closed. Her angel's mouth touched her own, gingerly, as light as air. Tears spilled down Mikaru's cheeks as she shut her eyes, picturing that she was sharing her first kiss with the one she loved. A soft embrace, so warm and gentle, wrapped her entire body, and for the first time she felt she wasn't alone.

When the lips against hers twisted in a savage smirk and the kiss deepened, it was too late.

Both her scream and her body had already been devoured.
