Note: I usually write these Densi-mber stories on Tumblr, but I decided to post this on here and A03 because I enjoyed writing this! (plus, it's pretty long).
Hope you like this!
Christmas 2020
Kensi and Deeks came into work very early 1 morning with a few boxes of decorations to decorate the office for Christmas.
'I'll get more decorations from the storage closet. Kensi said, then proceeded to walk towards said storage shed.
'And I'll get this stuff in the bullpen.' Deeks responded.
Later
'Man, there's enough decorations here to turn this whole place into a Christmas factory!' Deeks remarked.
'Hetty always did love having a lot of decorations.' Kensi replied.
'How are we going to do all this in 1 night.'
'Lot of coffee.'
As they were putting the garlands on the railings
'So, any idea how Hetty decorated this whole place every year? I mean, most years we would show up here 1 day to see the whole place decorated! Like, how did she do it?' Kensi asked.
'She hires a bunch of elves who work here in other parts of the building to help her out.' Deeks replied.
'That's a cute idea.' Noticing Deeks's face. 'Wait, does she really?'
'She most certainly does!'
'How do you know that?' Kensi asked, curious.
'Ah, Kensilina. Boy, do I have quite the story to tell you! Pass the lights, please.'
When they went to get the lights, Deeks started his story.
Flashback to 2011
Deeks showed up to work very early 1 morning, and was very surprised to see the office building with people decorating the place.
'Did I just wander into Santa's workshop?' He thought.
Then Hetty walked over carrying a box of garland.
'Martin! I didn't expect to see you here this early.' Hetty said, surprised to see him.
'Hetty! Yeah um, I was having trouble sleeping, so I decided to come in early. What is all this? Do all these people work here?'
'Yes. They're helping me decorate this place for Christmas. I tried doing it all by myself last year and I tired myself out.'
'So, these are basically elves, and you're Santa. Or Mrs. Claus. Or both.'
Hetty chuckled. 'In a way. Do you want to help? There's a bunch of stuff at your desk.'
'Sure, absolutely! Got any cocoa?'
'That's really nice!' Kensi said. 'Did you ever do it again with her?'
'Not for a few more years. Let's get the garland next to the couches.
Flashback to 2019
Deeks walked into the office early 1 morning to find boxes of Christmas decorations scattered around. And he saw Hetty putting garland on the stairway.
'Am I late or early to the party?' He asked.
'Oh! Good morning Mr. Deeks. I just got started.' Hetty replied.
'Where's the elves?'
Awkwardly. 'I uh, decided to decorate alone this year. But you're welcome to help out if you want.'
10 minutes in, Deeks saw Hetty sitting on the couch in her office looking really sad.
'Hey. You okay?' The he noticed the photo she was looking at was of her and Granger.' 'Oh.'
Deep sigh. 'I've been having a hard time the past few weeks.' Hetty said, embarrassed.
'We've noticed. If it has to do with Akos, no one's mad. We know that there's no way you could've known what would happen to him. And you chose to save Callen, everyone respects that.' Deeks said, trying to comfort her.
'It's not just what happened with Akos. This is my first year here without Owen, and I guess I'm not handling it that well.'
Sitting down next to her 'It''s okay to miss loved ones, especially around the holidays. And it's definitely not embarrassing! Everyone here misses him.'
'I, had a really bad year last year. Captivity, what happened in Mexico, being gone for so long. It all hit me hard. I've been doing fine since coming home last spring, but now, those depressed feelings have been coming back. And now I can't even be happy that it's almost Christmas! (sighs). Am I always going to feel this way?' Hetty asked, shedding a tear.
Rubbing her shoulder. 'You'll feel better eventually. Everyone here adores you, and will do anything to help you feel better if you let us. Plus, how can anyone not cheer up around me?'
Hetty lightly chuckled.
'Let's get some Christmas music going in here!' Deeks finished.
When they were done decorating
'Thank you Martin. I feel a bit better now.' Hetty said.
'Glad I could help. Do you mind if I give you a hug?' Deeks asked.
'Not at all!'
Hetty was very grateful for his kindness.
'Wow! That, is really sweet!' Kensi said, really touched by the story.
'Yeah. I hope that wherever she is this year, that someone is with her. Because being unhappy around the holidays is never a good thing.' Deeks replied.
'I hope she is okay too. Say, look up.''
Deeks looked up, and saw mistletoe.
'Oh ho ho! Trying to get me to kiss you by using mistletoe, eh?' Deeks playfully asked.
'is it working?'
'You better believe it!' Then they shared a long kiss.
'Mmm. We should probably hold off on more of this until we finish decorating.' Kensi said.
'Oh, right. Well, let's get these lights around Hetty's office next.' Deeks replied.
Endnote: The headcanon of Hetty hiring 'elves' to help her decorate the office really makes me smile. (it's also my headcanon).
