Here is just a little 500 word drabble I thought of while reading some other stories, I'm not really sure how it turned out, but hey! Whatever!
----
When John Winchester was sober, he loved his boys more then anything else. He gave little Dean advice on how to hold his brand new gun in his still small hands, and he would put band-aids on Sammy's knees as gently as he could when the baby was hurt. And at night, when John was sober he tucked in his boys with kisses on their foreheads and prayed to his Mary that the family would survive. When John Winchester was sober, his boys loved him.
But when John Winchester was drunk, his boys didn't like their daddy. He was mean; he yelled, he made Sammy cry because he accidentally spilled his milk and he said things that made their hearts hurt. When their daddy was drinking out of the brown bottles, Dean knew he had to take Sammy to their room to stay for the night. Dean didn't like that daddy. When he was drunk he was mad, and when he was mad, he lashed out, and the lashing out was almost always a painful thing for his boys; because John Winchester didn't lash out with his fists like against demons and ghosts, he used his words. Thos hurt Dean and Sammy more then the fists would.
Before Sammy was five, he knew to carefully skirt around the house silently when his daddy was on the couch with his bottles. He knew that when Dean wasn't home from school and he was alone, if his Daddy was in his room with the door closed, to not go anywhere near it until either Daddy came to see him with his happy smile that made Sammy feel good inside, or Dean came home. Sammy knew that when Daddy didn't move or when he yelled really loud at Sammy, that he couldn't cry, it only made it worse.
Dean always protected his younger brother; he always had, even before Sammy was placed in his arms the night their mother died. So naturally when Daddy was angry, Dean tried to protect Sammy from him too. Even if it meant that Daddy would yell at him instead. As long as Sammy was okay, Dean was okay, Daddy couldn't hurt them too badly if they stuck together, their 'other' daddy always said that if they were together, nothing could hurt them.
When John Winchester was sober, he loved his boys more then anything else, and his boys loved him. But when their 'other' daddy came out, the one that drank out of brown bags and yelled at them, the younger Winchesters would stay in their rooms and wish their nice daddy would come back. Dean and Sammy didn't like the 'other' one.
John Winchester never hit his children, but not all pain is physical.

Hope it was okay, Review if you liked it, or didn't or don't really care, but review all the same!
