Infamous Mentor! Devine Spark

I apologize for the long wait, life and other stories keeping me occupied. To those following this story, I'm sorry to say this might be my last update on this story. This will be going up for adoption, and I will update if anyone takes up the spark. To those who want to try, PM me about adopting this and I'll share what I originally had planned.

Disclaimer: I don't own Static Shock or InFamous, nor am I Shango. All praise to the original owners.

In the Realm of Lightning, young Virgil Hawkins was meeting his Grandfather Shango and being reunited with his mother. In the clouds surrounding them were figures famous for their Lightning ability. Virgil didn't know what to think, the last thing he could remember was passing out after breathing in purple smoke. Now he was with his mother and being told he was the grandson of a god.

"How is this possible? Mom, is it really you? I've missed you so much." Virgil said, barely holding back tears. Shango smiled at this, he understood and was willing to give it time. It wasn't like he could go anywhere without his permission.

"Yes, Virgil, its real. When I died when you were a baby, my father Shango grabbed me and brought me to his Realm. Here I was able to watch you grow up and I am proud of the young man you have become. You made the right choice throwing that gun in the water." Virgil's mom said. This caused Shango to laugh.

"Very good indeed, Virgil. If you had chosen the gun over your morals and remained in the gas, you would have been fused with the gun rather than having the opportunity presented to you. Through you mother, the door to my Realm opens for you. As a son of my Realm a portion of its power is yours to command, the gas awoke within you the power of Electrokinesis; the ability to generate and control electricity." Shango said, smiling down on his grandson.

As Shango spoke, Virgil's hands started to glow purple before electricity crackled around them. As Virgil examined his glowing hands, they got brighter, and Virgil smiled. Several of those attending laughed at the young prince's enthusiasm while others smiled, remembering when they had first gained their powers. Shango smiled broadly while watching his grandson embrace his gift for the first time.

"This is awesome! Thank you, Grandfather! What all can my gift do, and how will I master it? Are you going to teach me?" Virgil asked, causing more booming laughter from Shango.

"You are most welcome, Virgil. I am glad to see you bond well with your gift. As for your teacher, I and others will train you as you sleep but another of my faithful will teach you while you wake." Shango said, before slamming the butt of his O'Shea to the ground and a portal appeared nearby. From the portal came a figure Virgil had gotten to know pretty well over the last month, Cole McGrath.

"Cole, what are you doing here?" Virgil asked, having had too many surprises already tonight. Cole smirked at this, while looking to Shango with slight irritation. Shango raised an eye at this and Cole sighed.

"Lord Shango grabbed me at the last moment of my previous life, after I had sacrificed it to save 90 percent of the people on the planet from a plague and super powered individual. He made me a deal, protect and train you for a second chance at life and a second chance with the woman I loved. Do you remember that big lightning storm that hit Dakota City last month, damaging several buildings? That was Lord Shango sending me there." Cole said.

"By the way, kid. You're welcome. I got you home after you escaped the dock before passing out, not bad escaping while you could barely breath. I explained things to your dad in a way that shouldn't see you in much, if any, trouble." At Virgil's shocked and scared expression, Cole continued. "Kid, it was a lot better that I revealed the trouble you were in with the gangs than if the cops raiding the dock had brought you home; if that happened to me, my parents would tan my hide for a week. He's a good man, he won't punish you for this without talking to you about it. I think he might wait for you to bring it up, though I'd leave this part out if I were you."

"You have done well tonight, Cole McGrath. Let us continue, the night is young and there is much to speak of. Go train, Cole McGrath, I shall call when its time to return." Shango said, causing Cole to bow and dash off towards the edge of the clouds, which opened up and closed as he made his way through. He would train with Baal, Egyptians God of Storms, till it was time to leave.

"Let us begin, Virgil. There is much for you to learn before we start your training tonight. Wouldn't do to wake up to overloading the house." Shango said, letting out great bouts of booming laughter. His mother put her hand on his shoulder and smiled down at him. He grinned at her and smiled to his grandfather. It was going to be a long night…

The next morning, Virgil woke up to all his furniture surrounding him. He realized with embarrassment he must have been magnetizing everything in his room while he was sleeping. He took a focusing breath before slowly moving everything back to where it should be with his powers. Just as he finished, there was a knock on his door and Sharron stepped in. She was about to tease him about being lazy before she saw his tired expression and the clean state of his room. She changed her mind and told him to come down to breakfast, she was cooking breakfast.

Virgil got dressed and rushed downstairs. He couldn't wait to tell Richie about this, at least as much as he could. As he was sitting down for breakfast, he saw his father reading the paper; he remembered what Cole had said the night before. "Hey dad, could we talk after you get home tonight? There is some stuff I need to talk with you about."

This caused his dad to lower the paper and look at his son. The slightly scared look in his eyes and tenseness in his shoulders told him a lot; his son was scared to talk about what happened the night before but was trying to be brave. He sighed and nodded before taking another sip of coffee. He wanted to talk about what happened right now, but would wait till Virgil was ready. The thankful look his son returned was heartwarming, it was times like these he could really see his wife in his kids.

After Virgil was done eating, he called Richie on the house phone and asked him to meet him at the junkyard. Richie was confused but agreed to meet him there as soon as possible. Virgil rushed to the Auto junkyard as fast as he could, not noticing that Cole was following him. 'That's one thing we'll have to work on, being aware of your surroundings.' Cole thought as he followed. He'd even raised his voltage output to be more noticeable to Virgil.

When Virgil got to the junkyard, he climbed onto a car hidden by a pile of cars. Cole had chosen a vantage point on the roof across from the junkyard. He saw what Virgil was planning and smiled, flashy and with style while not risking exposure. When Richie got to the junkyard and was calling out for Virgil, Virgil floated all the cars in the pile before him to reveal himself. He then told Richie the doctored version of what had happened the night before and getting his powers thanks to the gas stored on the dock. While talking, he was making the car he was standing on fly around the junkyard.

When Richie mentioned Virgil possibly being a superhero, Virgil stopped paying attention to where he was flying and almost flew into another stack of cars. Cole took that moment to take control of the car Virgil was flying and sent it to the ground before it could crash into the others. That was when Virgil finally noticed Cole and grimaced while Cole just smirked at him. Richie didn't notice however as he grabbed Virgil and rushed him back to the Hawkins house, saying "We need to get you some gear."

Cole smiled down on them as they rushed off. He couldn't help but think of happier days with Zeke, though his betrayal always lingered when he thought of him. When the teens made it to Virgil's house, Cole headed to the Center for more work. Shango's job for him didn't exactly come with a paycheck, just a promise of something he desperately wanted; Trish alive and by his side again.

That night, Virgil told his father about the docks and the days leading up to it. While Robert wasn't happy that his son didn't come to him about this for help, he knew what the gangs were doing to the teens in the city by watching and listening to the teens that came through the Center. When Virgil got to his involvement with the gangs at the dock, he was actually proud of his son. Not for running from the cops, they would be having a separate talk about that later; but Virgil tossed the gun as soon as it was safe, without using it, and then kept his calm during a dangerous event.

Robert then told Virgil about Cole's involvement, though Virgil already knew it was best to keep that hidden for now, and how Cole had gotten Virgil home and told him about the events on the dock. Robert then sighed before looking his son in the eye and saying, "You made some bad choices Virgil, but from the sound of it there weren't very many good ones. I'm proud of you son, for the good choices you did make, like refusing to use that gun. Just try to be careful; and next time you're in trouble, talk to me. You and Sharron are the only family I have left, I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you; I sure as hell won't turn my back on either of you. Doesn't mean I won't give you a stern talking to if you do something wrong." Richard finished, giving his son a hard eye and a smirk.

Virgil just took it as it was and hugged his father, which Richard returned just as firm. They spent some more time talking before Richard sent Virgil off to do the dishes before bed. Richard turned to one of the many pictures of his wife that were in the living room and took solace in her smile, hoping he was doing this right; it wasn't easy being a single parent with two teenagers. Unknown to him, Jane was watching him and sharing loving smile; she was proud of Richard and his success.

That night, Virgil's mind returned to the Realm of Lightning where he was trained by Cole in what was possible with his powers. Cole taught him how to draw on his power and showed Virgil what he could do. They started working on blast bolts and ended the nights training by working on Arc Restraints; a ball of concentrated energy that surrounds the target, encasing them in electricity and stunning their nerve endings.

While they trained, Virgil told Cole about his day and about Richie's idea of him becoming a superhero. Cole had a good laugh about the costumes Virgil had gone through, actually falling over with laughter when Virgil told him about the blue suit with a bolt of Lightning. The suit Virgil and Richie had agreed on was long black pants with a white shirt with the black symbol of the Flash at the center, an open circle with a lightning bolt cutting through, along with a blue open coat with yellow trim and interior. To finish the look was a white mask with yellow visors with grey gloves and boots.

Cole never really took to the whole costume gimmick, everyone already knew who he was before he could even think to hide himself, thanks to his alternate-self revealing he was the one who opened the reactor. He might need one now though, if he was going to keep Virgil relatively safe. When they brought this to Shango and Jane, they looked thoughtful before Shango had an idea. Shango once again sent the energy of the Realm at Cole, who was starting to get used to it after his month of training.

When the power released Cole, he was dressed in leather pants, a bear torso, and a wooden mask that resembled the totem of Shango. The O'Shea extended and held in his right hand. When Cole moved his head, the facial expressions on the mask changed, acting as his actual face would. "This is different. What happened to my voice?!" Cole exclaimed when he examined himself.

"I figured that if you were going to join him and train him, you should have the garb of my champion. The mask acts as a face guard and augments your voice so that nobody will hear your real voice, they will hear mine." Shango said with a broad smile. "You can summon or banish the garb here with a clear thought to do so and a surge of your power. Virgil, wear your costume the next time you sleep and I shall hold them here so that you may do the same. Better than keeping them in you backpack, right?" Shango said with a raised eyebrow and a knowing smile. Virgil gave a shaky laugh to that, having hoped for a better idea than what he was planning.

"Morning comes, its time you two return home." Shango said, smiling as he watched Jane give Virgil a hug before Cole and Virgil crackled with power and returned to their bodies. "It begins. Soon child, you shall have your desire paid forward. Better than before." Shango said, eyeing the slight pulsing of energy behind his thrown. With each pulse, the barest outline of a female could be seen. Only Shango could see this shade, for now. Gods don't take promises lightly.

The next day, Virgil met with Richie and Cole at the junkyard where Richie found out about Cole having similar powers to Virgil. Richie then got them talking about hero names, it was hilarious watching them go back and forth about different electrical names I suggested Static Shock for Virgil and chose S for myself. Richie didn't get it, but Virgil did, laughter in his eyes. After that was decided, Richie watched as Cole and Virgil trained for an hour. As they were leaving, they overheard some adults walking by, quietly talking. One of them mentioned their plans to break into a warehouse that night before one of his friends knocked him over the head.

"Well, looks like we have plans for tonight." Virgil said, Cole smirked, and Richie looked nervous. They headed back to their respective houses, with Cole dropping off another delivery on his way, Virgil and Cole making plans to meet up at the warehouse while Richie would meet them afterwards at the school gym; Richie and Virgil had been tricked into helping set up the school dance by Frieda, their longtime friend and Virgil's crush.

After dinner, Virgil told his father he needed to do something before heading to the school to help Frieda. His father chuckled and let him leave, only asking he be safe and be back by Ten. It was Six-Thirty when Virgil and Cole, both in their costumes when they met on the roof of the warehouse. The crooks they overheard earlier were already inside, through a skylight window they could see the guards were already tied up.

They quickly discussed what to do before S dropped quietly through the skylight as Static took off on a borrowed manhole cover to make an entrance through the open loading bay door. The crooks had brought a truck with them and were loading electronics into it. Static made his opening move by powering the television one of the crooks was carrying, distracting him before he overloaded the television, causing it to explode in the man's arms.

Static took that opportunity to fly into the warehouse, sending a bolt of electricity bouncing between two computers being carried towards the truck, blinding the crooks carrying them. After Static flew past them, chiding them about their use of slang, "Either use slang correctly or don't use it at all." Static further mocked them by doing an invert of one of the warehouse's support beams, causing several crooks to draw metallic weapons. Static laughed about this saying, "Metal weapons and dumb thugs, how easy does it get?" He then electrified them, magnetizing the weapons before pulling them towards him, disarming the crooks.

The then electrified the weapons, making them two bright to look at before sending them to the hiding S, up in the rafters. S was keeping an arial view, ready to back Static up if he got in trouble. Losing their weapons spooked the crooks, who all ran different ways. One crook tried to run for a door before Static got in his way and punched him with a taser punch before sticking him with an arc restraint.

While Static was distracted with one crook, another got in a forklift and started driving it at the shelves between him and Static. He didn't make it far before the battery in the forklift died as S absorbed it energy before dropping down Infront of them with a crack of electricity. Cole quickly pulled the crook out of the forklift before sticking him with a point-blank arc restraint and sent him to hang on the roof.

Seeing what S had done, Static quickly tagged the last crook with an arc restraint before sending them and the one by the door to join their friend on the ceiling. Static then made a clear signal for the cops by shooting energy out the open skylight and controlled the energy to form "BAD GUYS THIS EXIT" with an arrow pointing down towards the warehouse. Static and S then hid behind some of the boxes that had been stacked for loading as sirens quickly approached. S tried to advice Static to leave quietly, but Static wanted to see the arrest.

The cops quickly raided the warehouse and found the crooks stuck to the ceiling, their weapons on the floor nearby. When one of the cops mentioned needing a ladder, Static shot a small spark at the three bound crooks. The spark cut the arc restraints, sending them falling to the floor at the cops' feet. This made Static chuckle before he noticed that the boxes they were hiding behind, were the new computers that were meant to go to Dakota High. Static suggested to his Currier friend they go ahead and deliver them, causing S to glare lightly at Static before relenting. They would need to wait for the cops to leave first though, it wouldn't do for them to think we were stealing the boxes.

Not long after the crooks were down, Static and S made their way to the school with the new computers. When they got there, Frieda asked who they were. Static told her as he was passing, "I'm Static, I put a shock to your system." Getting praise from Richie as he passed. Static then assisted in setting up the disco-ball and lights, while flirting with Frieda. He sent a low amp heart shaped spark her way, causing her hair to raise and sparks to crackle all along her before dissipating, before flying out of the gym; a look of contemplation on his face which only S and his family saw.

While Static and S were helping set up the gym, in the hospital across town the results of what would come to be called 'the big bang' were for those unfortunate enough not to escape the gas at the docks accelerating. The gang members who were exposed most and passed out inside the gas cloud were mutating at an alarming rate. Those whose bodies couldn't cope with the change became horribly disfigured; one poor boy turned purple, and his limbs turned to purple slime, falling off the gurney he was on, while next to him was a young man that had turned purple with nasty boils all over his body.

One of the nurses called out about a young man burning up, purple smoke rising off his body. This young man fought through the pain of the mutation and with a force of effort, fire rose up over his skin, but didn't burn him. The teen laughed manically, saying "What a trip!" before sending a fireball at the window and jumping out. The heated air around his fire coated form slowed his decent as he jumped from the sixed floor of the hospital. As he walked away up the road, those nearby could hear the teen covered in fire saying, "This is going to be fun!" before they ran the other way from him.

This is getting a little long for this story's average, so I'll cut it here for now. I plan to do one more chapter before putting this tale either on hiatus or up for adoption. I still think this story has a lot of potential, but with my beta for this story not saying a word in over a year about the previous chapter and a lack of cultural research available to me about the followers of Shango I don't think I have the time or skill to go further with this. I have an idea for a final chapter for this but not much of a plan to get there without plugging Cole/S into every episode of these four seasons show.

For those reading this and amazingly followed this, thank you and I hope you enjoyed. Special thanks to Spiderman1fan and edboy4926 for leaving reviews on both initial chapters.
