Disclaimers: Yeah, I own every single character in this story, because I just won the lottery and bought out Stan Lee. Oh wait, hang on, that's what I hallucinated when I was delirious… Sadly, I don't own the F4 characters, I only own Maria…

Chapter 2

Sue was in the kitchen area of the Baxter building pouring coffee into four cups, placing them on a tray she walked to the table where Ben Johnny and Reed were sitting.

"Where's Maria?" she asked noticing her missing team mate.

"She's still in her room," Johnny informed her.

Sue looked saddened, "Awww, poor thing," she said sadly. "She's been in there for three days now."

"Yeah, ever since Jack broke up with her," he said.

"I feel like clobbering him," Ben said angrily.

The four went silent, then Johnny grinned, "I have an idea of what will cheer her up," he announced. "Ben, may I have permission to take Maria into the city for the day?" he asked.

Ben looked surprised that he'd asked permission, he hated seeing his girl so unhappy, so if Johnny thought he could make her smile, he was fine with it. "Sure, if she'll go with you."

"There's something you should see first," Reed pulled up the daily newspaper from the floor beside him. "Clash No More" read the headline on the front cover. It was an article a friend of Jack's had sold to the paper. His friend had said how Jack was happy that he could now wear green and would no longer clash with his girl friend. "Water girl weeps," read the one that had been published the night after the two broke up. It included all of what was said, of what had gone on the night before, obviously there had been a journalist at the restaurant, and took advantage of a great story. "Do you think he really said that, about clashing I mean?" Reed asked.

"Hmmm, I don't know…" Sue mused, "Any girl reading that will never go out with that arrogant jerk again!" she said agnrily, "Imagine breaking up with someone because you feel inferior!"

"That's if he lives to get another girlfriend…" Ben said clasping his hands together making a loud boom. "Sorry," he said when he caught Sue glaring at him, "I won't touch him…" he promised, last thing they needed was more bad publicity.

Johnny snatched the paper from Reed and burned it, just like he had done with every paper he'd seen. "I'll go now," he said getting up.

Reed picked up something else from the floor, "Give her these," he threw Johnny over a bundle. "They're heat resistant, and water proof gloves," he informed him, "Finally finished them," he said grinned happily.

Johnny nodded and made his way to Maria's room.

Maria lay on her bed staring at the ceiling, her eyes burned from holding in the tears she had wanted to shed since the break-up. She didn't want to get up, in fact she didn't want to do anything, just lay there wishing she had Sue's newly found ability and could disappear.

There was a light knock on the door, "Go away!" she yelled; she really wasn't in the mood to face anyone.

The handle turned, whoever was there was obviously deaf, she turned her head toward the door and saw Johnny poking his head around the corner. "Hey," he smiled softly, "Can I…"

"Sure, come in," sighing as she answered his unfinished question. He hadn't listened to her when she'd said 'go away,' she may as well let him in.

"You ok?" he asked lightly.

"Sure, just dandy!" she muttered sarcastically, pushing herself up and leaning against the headrest.

"Nice P.J's" he observed, causing Maria to blush, and look down at her Sailor Moon night clothes. "I got you something," Johnny said, "Rather Reed's got you something," he corrected himself.

Maria took the gloves off him, "He finished them," she smiled putting them on, "They fit," she said, her mood lightening up a little. She touched Johnny's bear hand, "We can play tidally winks now," she smiled a slightly.

Johnny smiled looking at her, he wanted to keep on looking at her, but he mentally shook himself and changed the subject. "What you listening to?" he asked.

"Michael Bolton," Maria said.

"Thought so," he mused.

"No you didn't, you had no idea who was singing!" the girl argued.

"I so did!" the Human torch argued back.

Maria smiled, "Prove it!" she challenged.

"Fine," Johnny replied, turning up the volume slightly on her CD player.

"You came to me like the dawn through the night, Just shining like the sun, Out of my dreams and into my life, You are the one, you are the one," he sang along with the voice that came out f the speakers.

Maria slowly turned down the volume on the player, testing to see if he knew the rest of the words. But to her amazement, he continued singing, "Said I loved you but I lied, 'Cause this is more than love I feel inside, Said I loved you but I was wrong, 'Cause love could never ever feel so strong."

She could have listened to him sing all day, but chose to stop him, "Ok, ok, I give."

Johnny smiled, "Didn't I tell you once that he wasn't bad?" he asked her referring to a night over six months ago when he made popcorn.

"Yeah, you did," she could also remember that night, she had burnt her hand, and Johnny had taken it in his, before burning it again with his touch.

He'd also thought about that, and gently touched her gloved hand. "You want to go shopping?" he asked.

"Shopping?" her eyes widened, "With you?"

"No, with the Easter Bunny," he said sarcastically, "Yeah, with me!"

Maria thought for a second, did she really want to go and face the outside world after being publicly humiliated just days before? No, she didn't. But she also didn't want people to talk about her behind her back, she wanted to show she was a strong person, someone who didn't care what was being said about her. She'd studied psychology at University, and wanted to show people she was stronger emotionally than they may think.

"Give me twenty minutes to get ready," she grinned at Johnny.

"Ok, I'll be waiting," he grinned back, getting up and leaving the room.

Maria turned her music back up, and got out of bed, wandering what she was going to wear.
