Okay, so first thing is hi guys, it's been a while...which leads to my second thing: why are there two more reviews?...that I can't access? Urgh, the computer must be glitching, kriff. Well, hopefully I'll get that fixed soon. Anyway, hope you enjoy how short this is- I mean, you enjoy this short story. Whoops, don't know how that happened. ;) Okay, here we go.
Another first person one (I've been helping with Dick with his writing since my time has been 'eh' lately with a bunch of other projects...and he has a lot more spare time on his hands then I do :/)
Now, this one, just gonna say, can be kind of embarrassing for me. But, here we go. First, I need to start with a little back-story. See, there's this one guy - Parker - that Viper is good friends with and he does these amazing sound effects. Literally, he can do basically anything...As I was to find out.
See, I was back on Kamino from a mission for the Senator and since it's not exactly a tourist friendly place, the only places to really go are the training grounds and the library...and because I had just come from a three month mapping project through solid jungle, working out was the last thing on my bucket list while I was going to be there.
So I caught up with some of the other guys I used to see around there - (shhhhhhh...helped a group of the little guys pull their first prank on their older brothers) - and went to the library to see all the books I hadn't had access to while as a cadet - cause apparently, the long-necks didn't want us reading. Huh, wonder why...
There wasn't much to it. But while I was there, I did pick up an audio book, so that was good. Now comes to the part that's the interest of this story. You know how all libraries have the security system things on either side of the entrance/exit? The ones that malfunction every other month or so so when someone is randomly walking by, it goes off for no reason? Yeah, those things. (Now, for those of you who have never stepped inside a library or have no idea what that is or what I'm talking about, just swing with it...Also, I pity you)
Okay, hopefully you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I was just walking out when all of a sudden the karking thing went off!
Whirling around, I step back into the library going 'Whoa, what just happened!' when I hear someone say, ''Oh, just go ahead; that happens sometimes.''
So I shrug and begin to go on my merry way, audio unit in hand...except it happened again!
I take a couple steps backwards again, thinking: this is getting weird. I look at the system lights...but they weren't on. I frown and ask - to whom, I have no idea, but I asked - ''When it malfunctions, does that mean that the light stays off too?''
''Nah, it's just the sound. Everything else is fine.''
''Oh, okay.''
So, being the idiot I was, I go through - third times a charm right?
Nope.
''What tha-'' I begin to mutter when I heard some one trying not to laugh. Finally I glance over my shoulder at the person who had been answering my questions...I shake my head looking forward again...and stop, turning slowly on my heels.
Parker was leaning against the head desk, chortling to himself. He had the weird, slight smile on his face. You've probably seen it before: the one when you know something is up and their the one who probably caused it? Yeah, that small smirk.
I step back inside, biting my lower lip as I study him carefully...Glance at the security things (I still don't know what they're called)...glance back at him.
''You the one who's been making that sound?''
''Maaaaaaybe.'' he teases, ''Maaaaaaaybe not.''
I just give one nod. ''Uh huh.''
The dude had kriffing impersonated at security system alarm! How you ask?! I was curious too. There were some tricks to be learned from this man. I could see how something like that could be kind of useful!
Naturally, the first thing I did was make him sign something that said he wouldn't let anyone else know he was teaching me this stuff while I was there and that I couldn't do the same (please note the loophole that says though I couldn't say I was learning from him, that doesn't mean I couldn't share this new knowledge with the Junior cadets...did I leave that out and use that exact wording on purpose? Maaaaybe...Maaaaaybe not ;)
Two weeks later...
Titan was visiting with Ponds that day. Lunch had been the chat time so when they moved to Ponds' office, it was time for the business talk. But just as they sat down...
Ring, ring, RING!
Rolling his eyes, Commander Ponds sighed, ''Oh kriff. Now what?''
Titan gave him a knowing smirk. ''Boys been trouble lately?''
''No. Just things have been busy.''
''Ah, got it.''
He walked over to the door...but when he opened it, no one was there.
Ponds groaned. ''Please tell me no one got the idea for ding-dong-ditch?''
Laughing, Titan's smile never left. ''Dick been around lately?''
''Yeah, just came back from Kamino after another mission for Senator Amidala. He-'' Ponds paused mid-sentence, cocking his head everso-slightly towards the door, listening closely.
The Titan heard it too. A faint rustling in the corridor outside the office.
Ring, ring, RING!
Ponds shot a glance at Titan, but noticed that he was completely calm, amused even. He jerked his head in indication.
''Should I be worried about what's going on outside?''
''Dick still here?''
''I think so. For another two days at least.''
Titan just nodded, ''That could be good or that could be bad.''
He heaved a sigh and pushed off from where he had been leaning against Ponds' desk. ''Well, I guess we'd better see what those boys are up to before they got out of hand. Shall we?''
''One time, I try it one time, and I'm the only one who gets caught!''
Viper was hissing, he was so mad.
Me? I was just sitting back laughing my shebs off. It was true. Titan had been in town and I had been teaching Mason and Viper how to impersonate different sounds so I wanted to see how well they had taken it to heart. It was nothing hard. The only rule had been don't get caught.
*tut, tut, tut* Viper had flunked on that part. A pity...
...
(Is that it, Dick?)
Uuuuh, yes?
(Finish it off please)
Uh, how? I've never done this before...
(...for some reason, I don't believe you with how you said that. Just give a slight indication that there's more but leave it as a cliffhanger to let the audience gravitate towards reading more when the next chapter comes out...Seriously, you should know this.)
Sorry. I only maaaaybe listened to my Language classes as a cadet sooo...yeah..'Twas my fate.
(*face palm* Will you please just finish it off if you're done? As I recall, there was more to the ending than this.)
Oh, you want to hear that...Uh...okay. Uhmmmm, here we go...
It was a pity (for him) that he got caught; but he wasn't exactly the only one...After Viper came back from getting caught, Titan called me...
You know how when you're in trouble the hallways always seem so much larger than they really are? I've heard that's what it's like walking to the principles office...except it was my old boss's office so I don't know which is worse.
I knocked, got called in, and Titan gestured for me to come in.
''What's up, buttercup? Come on, Dick, have a seat. I'd like to talk you about something.''
I'll be honest, I gulped right then. Titan can be fun, but he can be a terror...especially when you know he isn't mad.
''Care to tell me what you've been up to? No? Okay. So let me tell you something that happened earlier today. I was catching up with an old friend of mine; we had just entered his office when all of a sudden we hear the office door bell ring. So the commander gets up and tries to answer it but then there is no one there.
''You know what it was?''
''Viper, sir?''
I was slowly slipping lower in my chair, my eyes locked with Titan's as I shrank back.
''Yes. It was Viper. But then I remembered how you had just come back from Kamino and how you, Viper, and Mason hang out when you three get the chance. And since you have a record, that made me single you out in particular.''
''Oh.''
''Now, I will let you off if..'' he leaned forward on his desk and held up a finger...then cracked a grin, ''you pull that on one more person here in the CG. See, the new guy Fox could always use a good laugh...''
Me? I grinned.
''What time, sir?''
La fine (the end) Latin
Well, I tried. Never really done this before...-Dick
Eh, don't worry about it, you did good. :)
So, hope you guys enjoyed. :D
