Disclaimers: I only own Maria, so don't sue me, not that you'll get any money anyway…
A/n Ahhhh... I see there's a little confusion with Maira's skin. In my last story, I had a few people not liking her skin blue. So yeah, it was the gas that changed it, and her skin is now really strong, and indestructable. Like Superman's skin (no i don't own Superman, and yeah I know it's DC). I don't want to say too much, because it might ruin what is to come...

Chapter 11
"Umm…" after an intense silence, both Johnny and Maria decided to speak at the same time, causing them both to smile and say "You go, ok, I'll go…"
Someone had to take control; "I'll go first," Maria smiled, and Johnny nodded. "You ok?" she asked.
The Human Torch smiled slightly, "Yeah, better now I know you're ok," he said. "You are…ok…right?" he asked.
She nodded, "Yeah," she paused, then looked at her hands, "Apart from my skin changing…" she said sadly.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Johnny asked, "Reed said water doesn't effect you anymore."
"No, it doesn't," she shook her head. "It's not blue anymore, kinda weird," she said raising an eyebrow. "I can wear green!" she exclaimed, making Johnny laugh. She looked at the floor, "But I don't like green," she said disgustedly, making him laugh more.
When she looked back at him, her eyes widened. He was only laughing to disguise the fact he was crying. "Hey," she said lightly, "What's wrong?" she asked.
"I'm sorry," he said his voice cracking, and tears fell down his face. "I should have checked to make sure you were with me," he said.
Maria smiled, "I'm ok," she said, but her words were no comfort to him.
"You could've…" he began.
"But I didn't," she said not letting him finish the sentence. Without thinking about the consequences, she placed her hand on his cheek and gently wiped away his tears.
She looked at her hand, still on Johnny's face, her hand wasn't burning. Then she looked at Johnny, he'd stopped crying and was looking back at her, a little scared she was being hurt. When he realised she wasn't, he smiled slightly, and she returned his smile.
Slowly, she moved her face towards his, and he moved his towards hers.
(A/N yeah, and author's note in the middle of a chapter is a little strange. But if you want a lovely happy ending, you may want to stop reading this fic at the closed bracket. You may wish to believe that the two young heroes kissed, and then everyone lived happily ever after. After all, Maria could now touch Johnny, go out in the rain and touch hot things! And they could be together, maybe even get married. The End)
(A/N Now, if you are reading this author's note, then that means you've chosen to read the rest. I don't believe in happy endings... Thing's are about to take a more sinister turn, don't say I didn't worn you…)
Their lips nearly touched when there was a knock on the door.
Maria mentally cursed who ever was at the door, pulling her face away from Johnny's sighing she called "Come in," forcing a smile.
"Hi!" it was Sue smiling with a bunch of flowers. "You've got a special delivery," she said moving across her brother - who glared at her - to put them in the table next to Maria.
Maria smiled, they were roses, her favourite. "Thank you," she said to Sue.
The older woman shook her head, "They're not from me," she said pointing at the card. "How you feeling anyway?" she asked as Maria reached for the card.
The girl nodded, "I'm ok," she said opening the card, "Like my new look?" she held up her hand.
Sue smiled, "You look warmer," she said, making Maria smile.
"Hey, I'm gonna go…" Johnny said getting up, "I'll be back later," she said.
Maria nodded, and he left. She moved her eyes to the card and read it. 'I hope you're ok. I'm sorry, I love you. Jack,' it read, causing Maria's heart to flutter. 'I love you' she read over and over. Did he actually mean 'I love you' as in actual 'love'? Why did she care? He broke up with her, and she nearly kissed Johnny!
"Who are they from?" Sue asked breaking into her thoughts.
Maria looked at her "Jack," she said, and handed her the card.
Sue's eyes danced over the words and her eyes widened, "Oh," she said, sitting in the chair her brother had sat in, and Ben previous to Johnny. "Hmm…" she mused.
"What do I do?" the younger girl answered the older one.
Sue shook her head, "I don't know," she confessed. "How do you feel about it?" she asked.
Maria was silent, "Before you can in, me and Johnny…" she paused, "we nearly kissed," she said.
Sue eyes widened, "Really?" she asked. "I'm sorry," she apologised.
Maria smiled, "Don't be sorry," she said. "Maybe it was a good thing."
"What do you mean?" the Invisible Woman asked.
Maria shook her head, "I don't know," she said. "It's just too much right now…" she confessed, and slumped down into the pillows.
Sue nodded, "You've had a lot to deal with today, your appearance, Johnny and now Jack…," she said. "You should get more rest."
Maria nodded, "Ok," she agreed. She could deal with things later, right now she was tired…
"We need to do a press conference, just to say you're awake," Sue explained. There had been reporters outside the Baxter building ever since the gas leak, more since Maria was bought home.
Maria nodded again, and Sue left. Slowly she fell into a fitful sleep…

End of chapter
A/n - Too tired to think of anything cool to write here... that's if you are reading this, and have chosen to read the rest of the story... just to let you guys know, the rating will be going up in the next chapter... not due to sexual content, but on a more sinister level...
