Sue was applying blusher to Maria's cheeks, "So, you spoken to Johnny yet?" she asked.
Maria went to hake her head, then realised it would mess up Sue's art. "No," she said, "Not since…" she paused looking Sue in the eye, "… you know," she said.
Sue nodded, "Yeah, I still feel a little guilty about that," she confessed, putting the brush away, and getting out the nail varnishes.
Maria shook her head, "Don't be," she said, "Maybe it was a good thing," she mused, they were both referring the 'almost kiss' incident. She took the bottle of nail varnish that Sue had chosen, and set out to work on the Invisible Woman's – although currently the Visible Woman's nails. "I'm just confused. Surely I shouldn't let Jack's words get to me, right?" she asked. "He could be just saying that he loves me now because to try and get me back…" she shook her head. "I've liked Johnny for so long, and now I know he likes me back. But then me and Jack happened, I was over Johnny… Now I'm wandering if maybe I didn't like Jack at all, I just needed someone at the time to fill a void…"
Sue cut her off, "Maria, hun, don't talk so much when you're doing my nails," she said pulling her hands away, showing her the mess she had made with the red nail varnish.
"Sorry," Maria apologised, "I just think… I don't know," she said shaking he head.
Sue took the bottle of red away from her and set it on the floor. "You know what your problem it?" she asked, "You think too much." Before Maria could protest, Sue continued, "Stop thinking about why you did what you did, they felt right at the time, yeah?" The young girl nodded, "Then it doesn't matter how you felt back then, how do you feel now?" she asked, "What is your heart telling you?"
Maria closed her eyes and thought. "I…" she began, "…oh I don't know Sue," she confessed. "Jack really hurt me, which meant the feelings I had for him were genuine, and not just something my head made up because I couldn't have Johnny… maybe my head is telling my heart that Johnny is a rebound guy?" she mused.
Sue smiled, "Yeah, that's how I felt with Victor after a while. I thought maybe he was like a void to fill in the gap that Reed left…" she said. "Maybe that's how it is with you, Reed always loved me even after he broke my heart, Jack may very well love you…" she said.
Maria looked at Sue, "Are you trying to say that Reed to you is like Jack to me, and that Victor to you is like Johnny to me?" she asked.
Sue thought for a moment, "Yeah, I guess…" she said. "Apart from the whole Victor being evil and trying to kill us…" she laughed, and Maria joined in. After the laughter died down Sue said, "Maybe you could take a step back and survey the situation… Maybe fly solo for a while, so to speak."
Maria nodded, "I guess you're right," she said, picking up the red nail varnish bottle, "Do over?" she asked. Sue nodded, and she began re-applying the red on her nails.
