"Hey, we get our grimoires tomorrow. You will defiantly be able to use magic then." I said as I joined him in training. We had always pushed each other to go further, be it training our bodies, or wrestling in the mud. "You will be the Wizard king... right?" I asked.
"Of course! Then I can give everyone an easy life! And we can find your real family!" He said with that goofy smile of his.
"Asta, I don't want to find them, I have you, Yuno as much as he is being a meanie right now, Nash, Lily, Father, Recca, Hollo and little Aruru. You guys are my real family. And when we become magic knights together I'll have so many adventures to sing them to sleep with." I smiled.
"By sing, you mean sound like fathers fingers on the chalk board." He laughed.
"Oh, come on, I'm not that bad of a singer. I've only been banned from singing during church hours." We both laughed at this.
"Let's get our Grimoires and do our best to become the wizard King." He cheered.
"You do that, it seems like a lot of work." I said, "I just want adventure." I looked up at the sky, the sun shining through the cracks of the great skull. "I want to see more then just this little village."
Chapter 2: Grimoires
We arrived home late covered in mud and sticks, laughing our heads off as Asta had me in a childish headlock. I smiled as we entered our home, Father was waiting for us. "Where have you two been?" He didn't sound angry.
"Training, like always." Asta smiled. "Potatoes for supper?"
"It's cold, you two took too long to get back." He said, a soft smile on his face. "Tomorrow is the awarding ceremony, you best wash your clothes after supper." He said.
I just rolled my eyes, I didn't care how I looked. My wild hair, worn dress and torn leggings said as much. "Yes Father." I said as I broke free. "Besides, I can heat them back up." I said as we went to the kitchen, with a snap of my fingers a flame sparked in the stove heating the potato pie. "Asta go get clean before supper." I told him as I smiled over my shoulder.
"Sure thing Helen." He ran off to get cleaned up.
I stepped out the back of the church and took in a breath before releasing a pulse of my magic power blasting the filth from my skin and clothes. "Three... two... one." I turned around to look at Yuno in the window, a clump of mud in his hair. "Heheheh." I giggled as he glared at me.
"Grow up." He closed the window.
"It was funny." I protested before going to the wash bin and filled it with water with a simple spell. I grabbed the soap and started to wash my hair combing through my onyx hair with my hands taking out clods of mud, sticks and leaves. After a few minutes I shook my hair dry and got up before walking inside to the sound of Asta aggressively cleaning himself in the bath room on the other side of the church.
I suppressed a laugh as I checked on the pie before taking it out. I split it out on two plate, fifty/fifty between me and Asta and I pulled out a small pouch on my belt and in small bowls I poured out some black and blue berries I had found on the way home.
Before long Asta joined me ad we went to eat out on the front steps of the church looking up at the stars. "What are you thinking?" He asked me.
"Oh, it's nothing." I said.
"Oh, come on. I'm your brother. You can tell me. Oh is it a boy. I'll go beat him up!" Before he could get up and terrorize the male youths of the town I stopped him.
"Fine. Fine, I'll tell you." I said as I chuckled softly. "You mentioned my real family earlier. Do you really think they are out there?" I asked him as I looked up at the stars. "Why... was I alone when I arrived here... I can't remember who I was... why do I have this tail... and why dose... that... happen during the full moon?" I set my plate to the side. "Who... am I?"
"You're Helen. My best friend and amazing sister." He ruffled my hair as I fought off his hand while we both laughed.
"I know. I just... would like to know." I said. "But even if I never knew, it wouldn't change anything." I smiled warmly as we finished our food. We brought in our plates and cleaned up before bed.
It was a small church, we didn't have our own rooms, so I got into bed with the younger girls and Asta threw him self on the bed he shared with Yuno, much to the Raven's displeasure as he read his book. "Goodnight." Asta said.
"GoooodNiight." I sang back.
"HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TELL YOU!? NO SINGING!" They yelled at me as I laughed.
"I swear, she dose it on purpose." Yuno said rubbing his ear.
"Maybe I doooo." I sang softly much to their surprise. "Father and Sister Lily will never believe you." With a snap of my fingers the candles went out.
First thing the next morning we went to the Grimoire tower where the old wizard lived. "Today is the day!" Asta yelled and cheered as we walked on the dirt road.
I chuckled at his antics as we entered the building, my tail coiling in anticipation. "Today is the day." I said as I stood with Asta and Yuno looking up at the rows and rows of grimoires. "I wonder which one is mine?" I asked my self.
"Who let that animal here?" I looked behind me at two well dressed boys.
"Probably that boy that I heard has no magic power." one with a soft brown hair said.
"Seriously? He can't use magic, how pathetic."
'Nobles.' I thought with a sour taste in my mouth.
"Ahem, welcome to this years ceremony of attainment, where you will receive your Grimoires. Between a mage and their Grimoire there is a special connection. Now I know there has never been a Wizard king or magic knight from this area, so I am counting on you!" The old wizard said, his faded red pointed hat tilted on his head. "Ahem, as I was saying, may the selection begin!" He shouted throwing his hands out the books started to glow and fly off the shelfs in a brilliant display.
People exclaimed in joy as they received their grimoire, my hands out waiting for my own... and it came.
In a brilliant display of crimson light a Grimoire came down to me, the cover hidden in swirl of red light as my hands closed on it. Before the light exploded out and closed back in revealing the cover, a red leather bound tome with rough corners and subtle edge worw seeming to have worn away with time... but in the center there was no clover, instead there was a different symbol, a barbed half circle at the bottom with a point sticking down with two horizontal lines under a trident head with inward barbs.
"It's beautiful..." I said as I ran my hand over the cover before a blazing golden light filled the room with gasps of surprise right next to me. I put up a arm to block the light as I looked at Yuno. His Grimoire was flawless, no wear or tear, and in the center...
"It can't be... a four leaf Clover." One of the Nobles said in surprise.
Yuno looked at the book before giving a smile. "I will become the Wizard King." He announced.
"Simply wonderful!" The old Wizard called out as people cheered before another familiar voice hit me.
"Um... where's my grimoire?" Asta asked still with his hands outstretched and my heart dropped out of my chest.
"Asta... no." I said softly.
