"She should have never been chosen as a magic knight." Nozel said, "A freak like that..."

"That is enough Nozel." Captain Charlotte said. "Helen has only proven herself time and time again. While her power is strange and defies normal conventions she is worthy of the title of magic knight. Perhaps you should revaluate what that means yourself. To think that a commoner recruit and match a Royal captain, I'd say I got the best one at the exam."

"Yeah, you tell him Char!" Sol said.

"Call me captain."

"Indeed." Fuegoleon said.

I went to go back to my table when a hand fell on my shoulder. "Helen. Tell me do you have a Rival?" I turned to Leopold with a look of confusion.

He smiled, "Well then you and your brother Asta are my rivals!"

Asta and I just stood there for a second. "Um... what?"

Chapter 25: Calm Before the Invasion

"You heard me! I choose you two to be my rival. With magic like you two have you two must be trying to be the Wizard King as well." He smiled.

"Well... I already have a rival." He pointed at Yuno. "It's Yuno."

"Don't drag me into this." He said across the room, before turning his attention back to Mimosa who was healing Solid from the serious burns I had inflicted as he squirmed under the steel gaze of his older brother and sister.

"Well, there isn't rule that says you can only have one rival!" Leopold said as he grabbed Asta's shoulders. "Oh, you may not look like it but you are built." He said as he felt Asta's muscles.

"Ummm... Leopold, I'm not trying to be the Wizard King." I admitted. He blinked at me with confusion.

"I'm sorry... what?" He asked.

"So you lack ambition as well." Fuegoleon said.

I puffed out my cheeks in annoyance as my tail tightened around my grimoire, "It's my brothers dreams. I just want to go on adventures."

Fuegoleon raised a eyebrow as Sol and Charlotte walked over. "That's all that motivates you?" The redheaded captain asked.

"Well... there was another reason." I added. "I was hoping to find out... where I came from."

"When Helen was a child she suffered a head injury that caused her to forget all of her memories." Yuno said as he walked over. "That was Asta's fault."

Asta yelled at Yuno. "I didn't mean to hit her on the head, I didn't even know she was there!"

The royals and nobles just looked at him like he was crazy, which was on the table. "Ahem. I see." Fuegoleon cleared his throat.

"I never said you did. Idiot." Yuno turned away.

"Well, that doesn't matter, I want to be the Wizard King so I have to be better then every mage in the Kingdom." Leopold exclaimed. "So Helen, will you be my rival?"

"No." I said. 'I'm being recognized as a equal by a royal!'

"What?!" He shouted.

"I don't really want to have a rival." I explained, "It would just feel like I'm obligated to try for the position of Wizard King." I said.

He just took a breath. "Okay then. Then let's at least be friends Lady Helen." he said with such a genuine smile...

'Did my heart just skip a beat?' My face started to heat up. "O-h... um... y... y-yes. I would l-like that."

From the corner of my eye I could see Sol's eyebrow raise. "What did I say?" Fuegoleon asked, a fiery aura around him

"Right, pride." It was at that moment that I excused myself grabbing my plate and going back to Captain Charlotte and Sol.

"Must say, I am impressed with your quick growth Helen." Charlotte said to me as I tried to block Leopold from thoughts.

"Y-yeah... I couldn't just stand by and do nothing." I tried to hide my blush.

"Come now Char, she's already embarrassed enough." Sol patted me on the back. "She's as red as her tomatoes." I didn't hide it well. She leaned down to me to whisper in my ear. "I thought you only liked... you know."

"Shut up, shut up, shut up. I don't want to even think about that right now." I felt my face burning even brighter.

"Dear Captain Charlotte, you recruit seems to be over heating." Hamon Caseus said, the fat man laughing at my expense as he sampled the foods.

"Leave her alone." Sol told him as Yuno walked over with a goblet of water.

"What's wrong?" He handed me the vessel and i quickly drank it.

"Oh, nothing." I lied.

He sighed. "Your eyebrow twitches when you lie Helen. But I won't push it here."

I mouthed thank you to him as he walked back over to Klaus. Just as I was about to distract myself with food the door was swung open with a bang. "THE CAPITAL IS UNDER ATTACK!" A magic knight yelled.

Then a shockwave ran through the building. "What the..." I asked as I turned to look out the window... and fires were spreading through the city. The smell of smoke and rot reached my senses.

"We have to plan our move carefully. Tium, create a model of the city." Fuegoleon ordered. "I know it will be a hard pill to swallow taking orders from me for some of you." He gaze going between my squad and the Silver Eagles.

"Earth Creation magic: Model of the World." Tium created a exact scaled copy of the entire city, with moving figures.

"Right so the attack is happening in five locations." Fuegoleon said as I backed away from the window.

"What are we doing people are dying out there!" Asta shouted before running out of the Banquet.

"DumbAsta! Where are you going?" Noelle shouted as Leopold ran after him.

"MY DUTY!" Asta shouted back as I fell into a runners start.

"Helen what are you doing?" Sol asked me.

"My duty. Full Body Enchantment: Wind Form!" I yelled as my body turned to pure wind throwing the windows open. I burst out of the chamber into sky over the city quickly falling out of the enchantment, the wind whistled in my ears as the thick stench of death filled my senses. I slammed into the ground hand tearing stones out of the road. I looked at the attackers... "Corpses." I snarled. "Elemental Enchantment; DRAGON ROAR!" The flames built in and escaped from my shout jaws. I burnt a large portion of the undead that attacked me. I didn't even bother with spell names as I switched between elements, blasting the dead to pieces with punches and kicks. Burning flesh scattered on the ground as I saved a group of civilians from the undead. "Stay behind me!" I told them.

"That robe! Your a magic knight! I knew they would save us!" The man told his children.

"ELEMENTAL ENCHANTMENT! GEYSER!" I shouted as the powerful spray of water cut down many of the undead, but they kept coming and it became harder to defend the growing group of people. "DAMN IT! STORM STRIKE!" I shouted the powerful tri element attack blasting through many of the undead. "DAMN IT WHERE ARE THE OTHERS!" I was slowly running out of mana.

"FIRE CREATION MAGIC: TWIN VERMILLION INFERNO!" Two pillars of flames incinerated a wave of the undead. "How did you get here so fast Helen?" Leopold asked as he, Fuegoleon, Noelle and Mimosa ran over.

"All injured come to me for healing!" Mimosa yelled as she created

As the two Lions took control of holding back the undead I caught my breath. The smell of burning rotting flesh filled the the air, it was nauseating. "You alright?" Leopold put a hand on my back as Fuegoleon's spells cut down hundreds of the undead.

"It smells so... repulsive." I practically gagged.

"Oh, that's right... your senses are sharper then the average person." Noelle said, she had a look of shame as we handled the undead.

We pushed through the undead, the flame spells turning them to ash. "Helen, you are wasting mana. You are putting much more then enough power to destroy these creatures." Fuegoleon told me as I unleashed another Dragon's roar spell.

I coughed up black smoke as I rubbed my throat. "Working on that." The repeated use of the spell was starting to burn my throat.

"And you Black Bull Girl, you aren't hesitating because of what your siblings said are you?" He turned his attention to Noelle.

She froze on the spot, "Oh... uh..." She had a look of shame.

"There isn't any shame in being born weak, the shame come from staying weak. The strong can come from anywhere. I believe your squad mate Asta proved that. Not a shred of magic in his body and he has the righteous heart to keep fighting." Fuegoleon, Leopold and I torched the more of the undead.

Then I heard something, a girl screaming in terror. My head snapped in the direction, I could see flames in the distance. And I could smell Asta over there. 'I can't keep using my breath, at this rate I'll burn through all of my mana.' I looked around and saw a discarded great sword, the owner either dead on fled, I didn't know which. I snatched it from the ground. "Elemental Enchantment: Hell Flame Blade." Runes etched themselves along the length of both sides of the weapon. Flames erupted from the hilt to the tip as the runes glowed crimson red. "YAHH!" I swung the blade horizontally the blade sending out a thing slice of super heated flames cutting down masses of the horde with each swung, each attack with more physical behind it.

"You can create magic items with ease!" Leopold was shocked.

"I use Elemental enchantment magic, kind of in the name. I prefer to enchant stuff I make." I said as the three of us pushed through the streets. Now that I wasn't using nearly as much magic power I could fight for longer. I wielded the long blade with one hand slashing through the enemies with ease. 'These things only strength is that there is so many of them... and that to fully stop them we have to completely destroy the bodies.' I thought as cleaved one in half, the rotten flesh making me gag as it burned. "Goddess, it smells so bad."

"What do you expect? Their corpses." Noelle told me.

"No, why thank you for telling me." I glared at the rather useless royal right now. "Did you forget what I have?"

"What... oh... right. Well then you should have blocked your nose." I felt my face twitch.

"I will dunk you in the river." I said as we made one final push reaching where Asta was fighting against a man in ragged robes, and a metal eye tied over one side of his face. Floating in the air was a thing with no arms or legs, bound in metal and cloth, sending down bolts of lightning that forced Asta to dodge and every time Asta went to slash at it, the corpse flew higher. Asta was bleeding from his side and his cheek, and it didn't look like it was going to close. By the wall of flames was a small child with Nero on her head.

"Number 2 will kill you!" The man shouted.

"NOT HAPPENING!" I shouted as I leaped through the air slashing the the corpse. Before I could connect a bolt of lighting struct my blade sending me to the ground. I skidded on the paving stones body numb. "Tsssk!" I used the blade to get to my feet before I was attacked again. "AAAAHHH!" I screamed in pain.

"DAMN IT!" Asta roared as he launched himself at the opponent unable to hit it he landed by me and turned to attack again when a wave of flames incinerated the Number 2 Corpse.

"Young and inexperienced, you let your anger guide your strikes." Fuegoleon walked past us, his heels clacking on the ground. "It was foolish what you did, brave but foolish. On the battle field you have to know when to fight and when to pull back due to your injuries." Fuegoleon said. "Neither of you are in any condition to fight."

"Tsk... it'll take more then this to kill me." I used Asta to get to my feet, the flaming blade melting the stone as my grip tightened on the hilt. My head tilted towards the man who was responsible for this. "I refuse to let any Royal or Noble beyond my captain tell me what to do." I yanked the blade out of the ground "ELEMENTAL ENCHANTMENT: FOUR WINDS BLADE! COMBINED ENHCANTMENT: FLAME CYCLONE BLADE!" The flames that raged from my weapon began spin rapidly. Before a final pulse of mana turned the spiral of flames into a full on vortex, I took the weapon in both hands and rushed him. The blade coming down in a flaming arc.

"NUMBER ONE! PROTECT ME!" The man yelled as a large corpse rose from the ground creating a barrier that my weapon slammed blade first into and as I growled putting all my strength behind the attack. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU!"

"I AM THE PERSON THAT'S GOING TO BREAK YOU IN HALF!" With one final push I threw the barrier back slamming the corspe and man into the side of a building, bricks falling around them. "I am Helen of Hage Village, a Blue Rose Magic Knight!"

Sorry this took soo long.
