Warning: Can you really blame me for loving AUs?
At a single glance they thought that the couple didn't fit together. That she was too dull for the handsome man dancing with her. There were whispers of saying how much he must've pitied her. Or what had he done to deserve less than he should receive. Then again, they were on the outside looking in.
At a single glance, their friends thought how adorable they looked together. How proud they were when the Hufflepuff summoned his courage to ask the daring Gryffindor to marry him. It had taken them long enough that most of their friends had bald spots...if they had actually pulled out their hair.
To him, it didn't matter that outsiders said her hair was a rat's nest because all he saw was a halo of warmth and kindness. He could see the defiance in them just as much as he could see it in her eyes. His lioness. He could remember the times when they called her a bossy little swot but such things would go into one ear and out the other. He was so amazed at how much she has dedicated to her life, her work, her family, and her friends, that he was surprised she wasn't a Hufflepuff.
So what if they said she didn't deserve him? They didn't know any better but somewhere in the dark crevices of her mind, she knew there was a seed of fear. A fear of losing him to someone else. A fear of being left all alone when he realized she was a dull robot with strange hair. In a second it was chased away as she looked up into his calm grey eyes. The same eyes that told her he loved her. That told her everything would be okay and protect her from their harsh comments. It wouldn't surprise her if he had been a Gryffindor.
At a single glance, in the center of the dance floor, a mixture of reactions can come and go but to the parents, it was simple. The way Cedric and Hermione held on to each other... the way the couple swayed to music long after it had ended. They could tell how much their children loved each other with a single glance.
