For the first time since being together, Jay and Hailey spent the night in Hailey and Vanessa's house because Vanessa was away for a couple of days. Unlike Hailey, who never planned her clothes, Jay brought an overnight bag, with clothes for the next day and Hailey guessed it was because he was an ex-Ranger.

As always, Jay woke at 5. He opened his eyes and saw Hailey asleep, in his arms and her head was resting against his chest, even in her sleep and he touched her blonde curls. Most of the time, when they woke up together, it was the weekend and they could stay in bed together, but it was not the case today, so Jay reluctantly left Hailey's bed, leaving her there to sleep.

When Jay was finished with his shower and changing into today's clothes, he went back into Hailey's bedroom. She rolled over to his side of the bed, as she started to wake up, so Jay lay himself on top of the duvet next to her. "Morning, Sleeping Beauty."

Smiling and greeting him with a kiss, Hailey replied, sleepily, "Good morning. I prefer it when I'm waking up next to you, you know."

Jay rubbed his forehead against hers. "Me, too. It's far better. But Voight's just texted and he needs us in. How about I go and get coffee and a breakfast muffin and take it to 21?"

Hailey sighed and wrapped her arms around Jay's neck as she smiled, her lips finding his neck. "I don't know. I prefer it when we have breakfast alone. We can be a couple, not just partners."

"Me too." Blue eyes met green and they stared at each other, smiling, for a couple of seconds, neither of them wanting to move, before Jay gave Hailey a final kiss and left her bedroom.

At 21, Jay arrived with Hailey's coffee and a breakfast muffin, but she was not there. She had just left her house, so she was on her way, so he left the muffin and coffee on her desk and sat down at his own desk. As he started to drink his own coffee, footsteps approached on the stairs. It was Adam. Jay sighed internally; he was fond of Adam, but the other man was tiring to deal with at this time in the morning.

Adam sat down and saw the coffee and muffin on Hailey's desk. "That smells so good, man." He noticed that they were the only ones there, so he sat on the edge of Hailey's desk. "Man, can I ask you something? Kim and Vanessa were talking on Friday and they seem to think Hailey has a mystery guy. Is that true?" He paused, then quickly added, "This isn't a weird jealousy thing, man. I'm totally in love with Kim! Never been more in love with her. I was just wondering if Hailey has mentioned this guy to you."

Holding eye contact with Adam, Jay replied, in an even, steady voice, "Yeah, she's mentioned him."

"Do you know him? Is he a good guy? Is he a solid dude? I hope he's a good guy. She deserves that. Vanessa wants us to introduce us to him, but I know how private Hailey is about this kind of thing."

The irony of this conversation, to Jay, was hilarious and he forced himself to bite back a grin, as he just nodded and replied, evenly "You don't need to worry. From what Upton's told me, he's a good guy."

Adam shrugged. "Good. That's good. I don't want him to think he's embarrassing and that's why she hasn't introduced him to us."

"What are you guys talking about?" Hailey inquired, as she walked up the steps into Intelligence. Her eyes connected with Jay's for a second and she instantly knew what the conversation was about. With a smile, she walked over to her desk and asked, needlessly, "The coffee and muffin for me?"

Doing his best to hide a smirk, Jay smiled at her and nodded, trying to keep his eyes on his computer as Hailey picked up the muffin and took a bite out of it. Adam moved himself from Hailey's desk, awkwardly. He scratched his head. "I was just asking Jay if he knew about your guy- your mystery guy?"

Hailey decided to have some fun with this situation, considering that Jay was, in fact, sitting so close to her and she knew that they would talk about this later. She raised her eyebrows and fixed her eyes on Adam, before she asked, "What makes him a mystery guy? I'm pretty sure that was the term Vanessa used."

Adam looked at Jay for help, but Jay was busy with writing a report on a computer. Now, Adam was wishing that he had listened to his wife. Asking Jay was fine, but talking to Hailey about this was different and he knew that Kim would be having words with him later for not just allowing Hailey to have her privacy and for asking Jay about it. Adam shifted uncomfortably, trying to find the right words. He wished the other detective would help him out. Now he knew what it was like to on the receiving end of Hailey's stares when she was in the interrogation room. "I didn't mean anything by it- but it's what Vanessa said. She said you've been acting different. And she thinks it's strange you haven't introduced us to this guy. We're just looking out for you."

Taking a bite from her muffin, Hailey replied, "I can take care of myself, Ruzek. There's nothing strange about it. I want to keep him private, not secret. There's a difference." Hailey's blue eyes were giving Adam a very clear message.

Nodding, Adam said, "Copy that, Upton. I'll say no more about it, but, at some point, we should meet him. Oh and he needs to pass Jay's test."

Jay finally looked up from his computer and laughed, "What are you talking about- My test?"

"You guys are partners. Best friend. He'll need to pass your test if he's serious about Hailey."

There was a silence as Jay and Hailey's eyes connected and Jay smirked as he replied, hiding his smile with his hand, "I'm sure Hailey will pass that message on." Adam walked back to his own desk and when Hailey sat down, she picked up for coffee and gave Jay a secret smile.

When Voight came into the room, Adam asked him what he thought of Hailey's mystery boyfriend. Voight just looked from Adam, then to Hailey before replying, "I really don't care. As long as Upton does her job and he treats her right, we've got nothing to worry about."

That evening, Jay and Hailey returned to Hailey and Vanessa's house. They had spent some of the evening at Molly's and Kim had not been impressed with her husband when he had mentioned that he had asked both Jay and Hailey about Hailey's secret boyfriend.

After having a shower, Hailey changed into her PJs and went to her room. Jay was already in her room, in her bed and she loved seeing him there and she crawled into bed next to him, lying on top of him as her lips found his. Taking a break from kissing her, Jay said, with a smirk, "For what it's worth, I told Ruzek your mystery guy is a good guy. Although according to Adam, he'll have to pass my test."

Hailey smiled and shook her head, lying down beside Jay. He rolled onto his side and rested his head against hers, looking into her eyes. "Adam can't let it go, can he? I saw you were having fun with that conversation."

"Hailey, how could I not have been having fun with that conversation? I'm the guy everyone wants to meet, to make sure I'm good enough for you." Jay paused, then added, in a more serious tone, "We'll tell them when we're ready."

"Yeah and I had fun with it too, knowing you were right there." Hailey nodded, then added, with a smile, "I like the fact no-one knows. We're partners and work and… this when we're not." She kissed Jay, then whispered through the kisses, "I hated that I didn't wake up next to you this morning. I wanted you to be in this bed with me."

Looking into her eyes, Jay whispered, in between their kisses too, "I'm not going anywhere tonight." They looked into each other's eyes and smiled, before they held each other close.
