The next morning, for the first time in weeks, Hailey woke up to find Jay sound asleep next to her; she loved weekends for that reason. She loved waking up next to him and she had told him this several times. It was the first time in weeks that they had were together and they both had the weekend off, so they could have time together, outside of the office, in their new partnership. Partners, best friends and now their new partnership. Hailey was proud of Jay in his new Sergeant role. He was very different from Voight, but she liked that. He was a good leader. Despite his new role, Hailey was his first priority and Hailey had always known that.
Keeping her head on the pillow, Hailey just smiled. It was rare that Jay was peaceful when he was sleeping, and he actually looked happy now and Hailey didn't want to move in fear of waking him up. She didn't want to move anyway, because here was where she wanted to be. Waking up in the morning, with Jay by her side. Hailey wasn't sure for how long she was watching Jay, but, when he woke up, she smiled and greeted him with a kiss, pulling him close. "Good morning."
"Morning, Sleeping Beauty." Jay wrapped his arms around her and frowned, "How come you're awake before me?"
Titling her head against the pillow, Hailey smiled and replied, "I was just thinking. I love waking up next to you." She paused, then asked, "So, you gave the unit the weekend off and that includes you, so what do you want to do?"
Jay's smile beamed at her as he answered, "Well, I know how much you love coffee and waffles. So that's breakfast." A glitter entered his eyes as he asked, "But before that, how about we make up for some lost time?"
With a mock-serious face, Hailey nodded. "If you say so, Sergeant Halstead." They looked into each other's eyes before laughing and kissing passionately, holding each other close.
True to his word, Jay made Hailey a breakfast of waffles and coffee. Hailey was glad to see that he was less tired; it was the first time in a while that he had not slept at the 21st District and it was a nice change. They loved just being with each other, no matter what they were doing. They were together.
Their morning was spent watching series on Netflix on the sofa and they went for runs together. Mostly, they just wanted to relax, until something occurred to Hailey as they sat down to watch another episode. She put her arms around Jay and declared, "We haven't celebrated your promotion yet!"
Jay smirked and raised his eyebrows as he said, "We did, when Voight offered it to me."
Hailey smiled and rolled her eyes. She remembered that evening and she had assured that, no matter what, nothing would change. She laughed and replied, "I meant officially, dummy. Go out and have drinks."
Resting his thumb against her cheek, Jay smiled and asked, "How about we go out for pizza? The kind of pizza you craved when you were in New York."
Hailey titled her head and nodded. "That sounds perfect." She kissed him quickly, then asked, "Do you have any nice clothes in that overnight bag of yours?" When Jay nodded his head, she added, "Go home, find something nice to wear and meet me back here in an hour."
"Is that an order, Detective?" Jay grinned at her.
Smirking, Hailey just nodded, before she left the sofa and went upstairs to her room, where she looked for a dress to wear. She very rarely wore dresses, but this was a special occasion. They were celebrating Jay's promotion to Sergeant.
Jay found his apartment so quiet when he arrived there. He liked it. It was his own space and, sometimes, he needed that and Hailey respected that. Since Vanessa had left for her undercover assignment, they spent most of their time together at Hailey's and, for Jay, that was important. He felt safe there.
An hour later, Hailey was standing in the kitchen, in a long, blue dress and her blonde curls were down. The front-door opened, and Hailey smiled as she saw Jay. He was wearing a pair of black jeans, a black top, and a blue suit jacket and, as soon as his eyes met with hers, he smiled. They walked over to each other, and Jay murmured, "Hailey, you look amazing." He paused, then added, "That dress does wonders for your eyes." His lips found Hailey's and they shared a sweet kiss.
Grinning for ear to ear, Hailey observed, "You don't look too bad yourself, Jay." She kissed him again, before she picked her up bag and said, "Now, let's go and celebrate, Sergeant Halstead."
