For the next couple of weeks, Platt was in charge of Intelligence and all Platt told the others was that Jay was taking a couple of weeks off from work; in truth, after their reconciliation, Jay had gone to Chicago Med. He spent about a week in hospital, recovering from one of the worst PTSD attacks had he had ever experienced, receiving therapy and his medication was adjusted. Will knew that, if it had not been for Hailey, his brother would never have admitted himself into the hospital. During the week he was in the hospital, Hailey came to see him every day and, as the days passed, she could see the difference, physically and mentally. Physically, he started to be less jumpy, and his hands started to not shake as often as they had been and his mood swings and anxiety started to die down. They would always be there, as a result of his PTSD, but they could be managed. Hailey and Will were still beyond grateful that this latest episode had not spiked Jay's depression.

After a couple of weeks, Jay's Dr called Hailey, telling her that Jay was ready to be released from hospital. Hailey was Jay's emergency contact. She had been for years, before they had even been together. His medication had been adjusted and, hopefully, the next time his PTSD was triggered, it would be more manageable. It had been one of the longest episodes and the worst Jay had ever suffered since his time in Afghanistan.

Hailey walked to the room where Jay had bene for the past weeks, and she pocked her head through the door and smiled softly. "Hey, partner."

Jay's face lit up when he saw her and he walked over to her and pulled her into a hug, just whispering, "Hailey." He kissed her temple and smiled at her, his green eyes looking far more normal than they had before. There was no anxiety in them anymore. Jay studied her eyes, before saying, "Hailes, if I weren't for you- I- I don't know where I'd be right now. I was… in such a dark place."

Titling her head and looking into his eyes, Hailey replied, "Well, we're here now and that's what matters. You look and sound better than you have since- since the shooting." She could see a hesitation in Jay's eyes, so she asked, gently, "Are you ready to go?"

It felt that deja vu as the two of them stood there, still, with Jay's arms still wrapped around Hailey, as he looked into his eyes. They had been here before. He wanted to tell her he loved her. He was in love with her and he had been for years. Jay wanted her to know, more than anything, but, for some reason, it didn't feel right to tell her here. Not in the place he had been recovering for the last couple of weeks. Jay shook his head and forced a smile as he replied, "Yeah, ready to go." He stroked Hailey's arm and smiled, before he turned away to gather his overnight bag. Hailey stood still, where she was. She knew what he was going to say, because she wanted to say it, too. There was no rush. This was their time together.

Jay insisted on going to the District, even though Hailey was off today, as well as him. He wanted to apologise to Kim, Kevin and Adam for his behaviour before he had admitted himself into hospital. It had not been fair, on anyone, especially Hailey. Hailey told him it was not needed, but Jay disagreed.

As soon as they returned to Hailey's house, Jay dropped his overnight bag and Hailey titled her head and asked, "Pizza and Netflix?" She could see that Jay was exhausted and all he wanted to do was to rest, with her.

Jay's face spread into a smile as he nodded softly, "That's perfect."

The pizza was ordered and the two of them sat together, eating the pizza, with their arms around each other and Hailey was so glad to see that Jay seemed so much better than before. They finished the pizza and Hailey asked, "What are the chances I can throw this into the bin in one shot?"

Shaking his head, Jay chuckled. "Not very likely." Under Hailey's determined eye, the rubbish landed in the bin and she turned back to face Jay, with a smile on her face. Laughing, Jay smiled and said, "You're so great, Hailey! I love you!" He paused, biting his lip, before he had not intended for it to come out like that, so, instead, he stood up and took hold of her hands, looking into her eyes. "I love you, Hailey."

Before doing anything else, Hailey's lips found Jay's and she kissed him softly before she looked into his eyes and whispered back, "I love you, too, Jay." They kissed, then Jay wrapped his arms around Hailey, wanting to hold her close, after everything that had happened. They were together, stronger than ever in their new partnership of best friends and more and now they knew that they were in love with the each other.
