Avery decided to postpone her flight back to Phoenix; she was in no rush in go back and she felt so comfortable and safe with Jay and Hailey. After Avery's nagging about meeting Kim, Kevin and Adam, Hailey invited the three of them to her house that evening, for a pizza party. Both she and Jay were very private about their relationship and their lives, but Jay also knew that, considering Avery was moving to Chicago, it would be best to tell the unit about her in a controlled environment, outside of work, and Avery agreed. Even though Avery had only just met Jay, she was proud to be Jay Halstead's daughter and she wanted to know people in his life, including his team. Kim, Kevin and Adam and she also wanted to get to know Platt, guessing that Platt knew her dad rather well, in the way that Platt did. Both Jay and Hailey had told Avery that only Platt knew about their relationship and the 19-year-old found that very amusing; the little she had seen of her dad and girlfriend, it was fitting.

Jay and Avery left Hailey's house an hour before the gathering, so that she could get ready and so that no one would think anything about Jay being there, not that any of the unit would think about it anyway. Hailey changed out of Jay's clothes for the first time in the weekend and changed into a pair of jeans and her own jumper, putting her hair into a high bobble. For her, Jay and Avery, it had been an exhausting weekend, but Jay and Avery had finally had a chance to bond and she was so glad, but Hailey also wanted to include Kim, Kevin and Adam, even if they didn't know that she and Jay were together. She wanted Jay to relax and have fun with them, something she knew was sometimes challenging because of his introverted personality and the walls he had put up as a way of dealing with life since returning from Afghanistan. Whilst Hailey loved the bubble in which she and Jay lived, which now included Avery, she knew that they needed their friends, too.

At her grandparents' house, Avery changed into a silky, blue top and a blue skirt. She wanted to make a good impression on Jay and Hailey's friends, on their teammates. They were Jay's team, because he was their Sergeant. Since announcing her decision to move to Chicago earlier that day, Avery had already found accommodation and, until it was available, she was going to stay with Gail and Danny. Avery had bonded with Jay and Hailey, but she also didn't want to intrude on their space, their time together, especially considering they spent all of their time together at Hailey's house.

Kim and Adam were the first to arrive at Hailey's house. The married couple were happy about being invited, even though Kim had seen Hailey the day before and they had brought a bottle of wine with them. "We come bearing gifts." Adam declared, holding up the wine, with a grin on his face.

Smiling, Hailey accepted the wine and said, "Thanks, guys. The pizza will be here soon."

Kevin was the next to arrive and then Jay and Avery and Kim, Kevin and Adam were clearly confused by her presence, but Kim felt as if she'd met her before. There was something very familiar about the teenager. She looked like Jay, Kim observed. Jay sat down next to Hailey, slightly awkwardly with a bear in his hands and Avery sat on the edge of a seat, with her hands together. Kim smiled at the teenager, feeling slightly sorry for her. Hailey shared a glance with Jay and they shared a secret look and Jay nodded, standing up, his hands in his back pockets. Avery stood beside him, pushing her brown curls behind her ears and folding her arms in front of her.

Clearing his throat, Jay commanded the attention of Kim, Kevin and Adam. Kim and Kevin had seen the look Jay and Hailey had exchanged, but it was something they had always done. They were partners, best friends. Jay cleared his throat again and spoke up, "Kim, Kevin, Adam, I'm sure you're all wondering who this is. This is Avery. My daughter."

Avery nodded and added, "It's so nice to meet all of you, since this is my first weekend here. I'm Jay's daughter and I'm 19."

There was a dead silence. Kim, Kevin and Adam were in shock. Jay had a daughter? Why had he never told them about her before? As if sensing their questions, Jay clarified, running his hands against his hips in a stressed way, "It's a bit complicated, but I only learnt of Avery's existence very recently. She's moving to Chicago, so we thought you should know. I have a daughter." He couldn't help glancing at Hailey and she gave him a small smile. He hoped that this team would accept Avery, just as Hailey had.

Kevin was the one to break the silence, standing up to shake Avery's hand as he smiled. "It's very nice to meet you, Avery. You've got one Hell of a dad there."

Blushing, Avery nodded and smiled. "Thank you, Kevin, I've heard a great deal about you."

"All good, I hope. You know, Jay is known for exaggerating." Kevin joked.

Kim stood up and walked over to Avery, smiling, and giving her a small hug. She gave Jay a small smile and Jay gave her and Kevin a smile of appreciation. "Avery, can I just say your clothes are amazing. Tell me, where do you shop?"

Avery spent most of the hour talking to Kevin and Kim and Jay watched from afar, until Avery decided that she wanted to leave, so Jay walked her to Hailey's front-door. Adam had said nothing, but now that Jay and Avery were out of the door, he turned to Hailey and asked, "Hailey, did you know? I can't believe Jay has a kid! A kid! How did that happen?"

Hailey just titled her head and pressed her lips together, not wanting to give away any information that was Jay's to give. She was glad when Kim changed the subject, talking about how she and Hailey had had a great day together yesterday. Hailey was glad of this and she was glad that, so far, the evening had gone well. She had seen how tense Jay had been.

The pizza finally arrived and the five of them started to eat, happy to be spending time together outside of work. As usual, Jay did very little talking, unless he really wanted to. Both he and Hailey were quieter in a group setting.

Finishing his pizza, Adam finally asked, "So, Hailey, where's your mystery guy tonight?"

Hailey chuckled slightly. Of course, Adam was asking about her mystery guy. She smiled and replied, "He's with his family for the weekend." She paused, then, added with a small glance Jay's way, "I'll tell him you were asking."

"Tell him I want to meet him. It's about time." Adam nodded, to make his point. "Not to check him out, but to meet him. It's not fair if only Jay's met him." Jay bit his lip and looked down at his bear, smiling. He knew that he and Hailey would laugh about this together, later, when they were alone. Adam went to the bathroom and, when he returned, he was looking uncomfortable. He sat down, taking hold of Kim's hand. "I don't wanna make anyone feel uncomfortable here, but, Hailey, I just saw your guy's underwear in the bathroom."

Hailey almost chocked on her drink and Jay shut his eyes shut quickly, out of embarrassment. Laughing, Hailey ran her hands through her hair, but was glad to see that Kim and Kevin were laughing, even if Adam wasn't. She made her face serious and said, "I'm sorry, Adam. I thought I'd tidied… everything away."

Adam just raised an eyebrow and chuckled, in am embarrassed way, "Well, do a second sweep next time."

With a smirk on his face, Jay chuckled softly and added, "Yeah, Hailey. You don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable by finding underwear." Hailey tilted her head to face Jay's and their eyes connected. She could see the sparkle in his eyes as he smirked.

Kim, Kevin and Adam left shortly after that and Jay pretended to leave, driving around the block, before returning to Hailey's and Hailey was in her room changing into PJs. Jay walked into the room and she threw his overnight bag to him, which he caught and changed. Tilting her head, Hailey walked over to Jay and asked, with a grin on her face, "So, underwear makes you uncomfortable?"

Smirking, Jay replied, "Yeah, Hailes. It does. Especially when they're your mystery guy's. You'd think, as a detective, you'd be better at hiding your relationship with this guy."

"You're such a dork." Laughing, Hailey wrapped her arms around Jay's neck and he wrapped his around her waist, looking into each other's eyes. In almost a whisper, Hailey asked, smiling, "This mystery guy of mine, as Adam calls him, do you think he knows how much I love him?"

Jay nodded and kissed Hailey's nose before he whispered back, "I'm pretty sure he knows. He totally knows. And he loves you that much, too, by the way. Partner." They kissed passionately and made their way to Hailey's bed, throwing their PJs down to the ground, where they fell on top of Jay's overnight bag.
