Don't believe 9

Leia watched as Sam won two more hands from her pilot companions. Here she had worried about Han corrupting Sam, maybe she should have worried about it the other way around. "Well, here you go, Han can show you where it is," said Leia. "We'll show her where it is Leia," said Wedge. Chewy growled at him again.

Wedge tried to look innocent; no one who knew him bought it. "So, you've never flown before?" said Hobbie "no Luke was teaching me as we flew," said Sam. Leia looked ill for a little bit. "So, it was kind of a crash course," said Han "thankfully minus the crashing part," said Sam "yeah no kidding," said Leia Sam remembered Luke had said something about the ship being hers. She hoped she didn't just get the guy in trouble. "Well, I for one am glad we're starting to finally get some cute pilots," said Biggs "ah but I thought I was the cute one," said Wedge "I don't bend that way," said Biggs

"That's not what I heard," said Wedge. Biggs threw a pretzel-like snack at him. Sam started laughing. "So how about it kid you gonna stay?" said Han "oh I don't know my mom's going to be worried about me," said Sam "Well think about it okay, the rebellion could use the pilots," said Hobbie "Guys, she's only been here a few hours and you're already trying to recruit her," said Leia.

"Speaking of time, I have patrol duty tonight and so do you other losers," said Hobbie. "Oh, come on just one more hand, I think I can win this time," said Lando. "Maybe tomorrow Lando," said Wedge. He grabbed what was left of his paycheck. Which wasn't much after losing so many times to Sam. Lando frowned as the rest of the group broke up for the evening. He threw the cards down on the table. Sam scooped up her winnings.

What they used for cash was some sort of weird crystals "C'mon hun I'll show you to your room I want to talk to you anyways," said Leia. "Hey, I thought I was?" said Han "Oh, she's seen enough of you two to last a lifetime," said Leia "Hey!" said Han.

His tone was one of mock hurt, Chewy just looked confused. "Okay sure, night you two," said Sam "Night hun, see you tomorrow," said Han. Chewy made some sort of mewling noise. "See you tomorrow then," said Sam. Leia led her out of the room. Lando frowned as he watched her leave. "Great there goes half my pay for those supplies I dropped off," said Lando. Han snorted "You were going to take her in sabac anyways," said Han

"Yeah, I know, I should have insisted she learn it instead of taking her offer to learn that damn game," said Lando. Han laughed at him, Lando rarely lost so he was a horrible loser. Sam had unashamedly wiped the table with him. He was secretly proud of the girl, not only did she out Vox a card Vox but also, she got him to consent to the change of game himself. So, it looked like it was all his idea.

Poor Lando had been snookered and never even knew it. "Eh, I'm going to have to do the Cloud City run twice just to make up the loss," said Lando. The man was fastening his cloak to his shoulders. Han stifled the urge to laugh at him. The man was swearing at bad luck as he walked out of the room after the door swooshed shut, Han dissolved into laughter. Chewie joined him.

"And that my old friend is why I didn't play her," said Han. Chewy growled and mimicked how fast she had dealt the cards. "Yeah, I know you think that would have been his first clue, eh?" said Han. Chewie yowled something back and mimicked how fast her hands had been moving before chuckling again. "Yeah, kids a real card Voxyn," said Han. Chewie growled something about the stabilizers. "yeah, I don't see why not, might as well look at them tonight" said Han. He finished his drink and headed for the flight deck with Chewy in tow.

Leia walked in front of Sam towards the crew quarters. "So what'd you want to say?" said Sam "I just wanted to thank you for bringing my brother home safely," said Leia, "your welcome," said Sam "you like him don't you?" said Leia "Yeah, I guess does it show that bad?" said Sam "Dad's a Jedi remember?" said Leia "Yeah I know, I met him," said Sam, "You think were strange?" said Leia "Ah just your dad so far," said Sam "he's had a lot on his plate," said Leia

"Oh, sorry," said Sam. "It's all right he's good with responsibility and he believes in our cause," said Leia "Your cause?" said Sam "Were the rebellion," said Leia. Sam gave her a blank look. "Against the empire?" said Leia. Sam still looked lost to her. "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about?" said Sam "Oh, I forgot you're from out of this system, you probably haven't heard of any of this," said Leia

"Ah, that would be a no," said Sam "It's all right I'm sure you'll get filled in later, here it is," said Leia "Thanks Leia," said Sam "No thank you, my brother wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for you," said Leia "I'm glad he's all right," said Sam "Goodnight, Sam, breakfast is at o eight hundred in the mess," said Leia. "Thanks," said Sam. She punched in the door code Leia had given her and the door slid open

Luke was sitting in his bed trying to meditate because he couldn't sleep. He had done the right thing bringing Sam here. The force confirmed that as had his dad he had no doubt Maul would have killed her if he hadn't defended her. He had followed his instincts even though it seemed to lead to failure. They had turned out to be correct and the actions had saved his life. He would have never made it home if he had flown himself.

He had needed Sam then and now his heart was telling him not to let her leave. How did he get her to stay? Without the coordinates, she would be stranded but he didn't want to play dirty like that. It would nag at his conscience too much.

Sam looked at the strange room. It had two bunk beds in one wall and two strange-looking dressers. By the side of each bed was a floating table. Bedding had been set on the bottom bunk, so Sam put it on the bed. She was grateful that the sheets here followed the same basic principle as sheets from home. Sam wondered if she even had a home now. Did her mom come home to see her house ablaze?

Did her mom think she was dead? Would that creepy guy come back to finish the job if she did go home? Sam sat on the finished bunk and cried. She was so scared and lost she didn't know what to do. When she had offered to take Luke home, she hadn't thought about what that entailed. Until now that is, what if she never got home? What would she do here, how would she even survive?

Hell, she didn't even know how to work a door when she got here, what if she had to do something else? Sam wrapped her arms around her knees and tried to calm her sense of misery. Eventually, she laid down and went to sleep. Exhaustion finally won out and plunged her into sleep.

The next morning a strange buzzing woke her. At first, Sam thought it was her alarm waking her for school. So, she rolled over and smacked the top of it so she could snooze. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to have a snooze button. Sam blinked her eyes open and looked at her surroundings. At first, she didn't recognize them and panicked.

She threw off her blankets and stared at her surroundings. Then the memories of last night flooded her mind and she knew that it hadn't been a dream. The realization left her shaking. It had happened, she was here. She climbed out of the bed and went to the door. The clock had said it was eight o'clock, so she headed for the mess hall. Hopefully, she would remember the way. She walked down the unfamiliar metal-lined corridors, and for some reason, she did remember where she was going. She entered the mess hall and didn't recognize anyone. Miserable about being seemingly abandoned Sam got in line anyways.

She tried desperately to find something that wouldn't gross her out. "Try the pastry my dear it's quite safe," said a voice behind her. She turned and found an older-looking man dressed in some sort of robe. "Ah... thanks," said Sam "You must be Samantha Valerian am I correct?" asked the man "Ah yeah and you are?" said Sam "Master Qui-Gon Jinn at your service my dear," said Qui-Gon "Though I must confess I've heard a great deal about you already," said Qui-Gon "Oh.. really?" said Sam "Do you mind if I join you?" he asked.

Sam nodded gratefully for the companionship. "You may not believe this, but you're something of a celebrity around here," said Qui-Gon. "Really what for?" said Sam. Qui-Gon laughed slightly. Sam was staring at him with a puzzled look on her face. "Sorry, you don't know what's going on here, do you?" said Qui-Gon "Ah no, why?" said Sam. "Well, you see Samantha we, meaning everyone in this place, are part of the rebel alliance," said Qui-Gon.

Sam nodded yes; Leia had said something like that last night. "We are rebelling against the Sith Empire, a few days ago our spies stole secret plans for the emperor's latest weapon, the death star," said Qui-Gon "Yesterday, you brought those plans home along with the Jedi sent to retrieve them," said Qui- Gon "Oh!" said Sam.

"Now the only question remains what happens next?" said Qui- Gon. "Well, I was hoping to go home," said Sam. The man frowned at her words. "Hmm, that probably won't be wise, nor feasible for a while," said Qui-Gon. "Why not?" said Sam "Well for one Han is gone, he had a mission early this morning and won't be back for a few days," said Qui- Gon. "I don't follow you?" said Sam "The coordinates are in his ship's computer," said Qui-Gon

"The coordinate... what's?" said Sam Qui-Gon sighed and smiled at her. "The map to find our way back to your star system, it was in that droid and Han's ship," said Qui-Gon. "Oh," said Sam. Qui-Gon started to eat his food and watched the young lady. Anakin had asked him last night to test her. As the only senior member of the Jedi order, or what was left of it, it was his responsibility to test potential recruits. He had felt the child's anxiety last night as she retired for bed.

Her uncertainty could be attributed to a strange environment more so than fear. "You're a Jedi, too?" said Sam He smiled at her. "Yes, did Luke tell you about us?" said Qui-Gon "Only a little, he was mostly trying to keep from passing out," said Sam. Qui-Gon nodded yes. "He will be released later today," said Qui-Gon. Sam smiled, was she that transparent? "I will cut to the chase, young Skywalker mentioned that you may be force-sensitive, I would like to test you," said Qui-Gon

"Ah sure... I don't see why not," said Sam. It wasn't like she had anything better to do around here anyway. "Great after we are done here, I shall commence with the testing," said Qui-Gon "and if I pass these tests?" said Sam "there is no pass or fail merely you have the potential or you don't," said Qui-Gon "the potential for what?" said Sam
