The moblin came out of nowhere, roaring as it charged.
Urbosa could only watch. She, Link, and Daruk were too far away to do anything. By the time they reached the princesses and Zelda's attendant, it would be too late.
Impa gasped and shoved the Hylian Princess behind her. Mipha rose from the ground in one smooth motion, picking up her trident from where it rested beside her as she stood.
The Zora turned to face the moblin and shifted into a fighting stance, pointing the trident at the approaching enemy.
The moblin lunged. Mipha deflected the spear with her own weapon and slid past the creature's guard to open a deep gash in its side. Spinning around to face it from behind, she managed another strike before it whipped around, swinging its spear at her almost wildly.
She parried this attack as well, slipping in once more to slice across the moblin's chest. It turned with her this time and lunged, but Mipha was ready, spinning her trident in a move so quick that Urbosa could not tell exactly what she was doing. The monster dropped its spear, and Mipha struck again, quickly, right across the throat. The moblin fell and did not get up again.
The Zora princess turned toward her companions. "Are you two all right?" she asked. "No one was hurt, I hope?"
Impa watched her with wide eyes. She was not the only one surprised, though Urbosa supposed that Mipha would not have been chosen as a Champion if she had not had some skill in a fight. Zora warriors were known to be fierce, and their rulers took their responsibility to protect and serve their people seriously. The Princess most likely had been taking lessons from an early age.
It should have been obvious from the start, but Mipha's mild manner, frequent role as peacekeeper, and her skills as a healer made it easy to overlook that as the heir to the Zora throne she had to have at least some skill as a warrior.
They had forgotten it once, perhaps. They would not forget it again.
The Zora smiled at her companions, relieved that everyone was safe, and excused herself to go clean her trident. Her fellow Champions, the Princess, and her attendant watched her go.
Link was the only one not surprised by the incident.
