Summer vacation was a good time for most anything. A good time for lemonade, a good time for swimming, a good time for tennis, a good time for sitting over at your friend's house, trying unsuccessfully to decide what it was a good time to do. Akazawa was currently involved in that last activity; actually, he was currently involved in waiting to recommence the last activity as soon as Kaneda got back from the first activity. He yawned and threw his arm over the back of the couch, hoping that it would be good lemonade. Gradually he began to get the feeling that someone was watching him from behind. Slowly, trying not to move any other part of his body, he craned his head around to look down behind the couch. As he had suspected, large brown eyes were staring back at him. He smiled.
"Hey, little Kaneda."
The boy stood up silently and walked around to the front of the couch, looking Akazawa up and down appraisingly. Akazawa watched him, bemused. After a long silence, the boy spoke.
"You're tall."
Akazawa laughed. "You're short."
"You're friends with niichan, right?" The boy climbed up onto the couch and knelt next to Akazawa, leaning in close to his face. Cute kid. Must run in the family.
"You bet."
"Why?" The boy cocked his head to one side.
Akazawa chuckled, not only at the question, but also because he had considered answering 'Because he has a nice ass.' He decided that would be against his better judgment, and went with, "Because I like him, that's why. And what kind of question is that, hey?" He suddenly reached out and pulled the boy into his lap, tickling him playfully. "You don't like your brother?" He grinned.
"Hey, hey! No fair!" the little boy squealed with laughter. Akazawa relented a little. "He's annoying, 'kay?"
"Oh, well sure! That's their job, older brothers. I have one too, you know?"
"Really?"
"Sure. And 'cause I know how ya feel, I'll tell you what we're gonna do, alright? You listening?" Akazawa stopped tickling, and the boy looked up at him expectantly. "Alright, when niichan comes back in here, okay, we're going to jump him." A fairly brilliant plan, if he did say so himself.
"What's that?"
"You know, jump on him. Run up and tackle him. That kinda thing. Alright?"
"'Kay." The boy's eyes had taken on the impish, conspiratorial glint of a child who has just found out that his mischief is adult-sanctioned.
"All right. Duck down, behind the couch, so he can't see us waiting." Akazawa knew they wouldn't have much longer to wait, Kaneda had definitely been out of the room long enough by now. Sure enough, within a minute, Kaneda appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. "Now!" Akazawa barked, and vaulted over the back of the couch and on to his friend, the boy in hot pursuit.
"Waugh!" Kaneda yelped as he went down under Akazawa's weight, his little brother clinging to his right leg. Lemonade went everywhere, but mostly all over Kaneda. Akazawa licked it off his face.
"Gotcha," he grinned wickedly.
"Gotcha, gotcha!"
