One of the reasons why Hailey and Jay had wanted to keep their relationship private was so avoid the gossip that would come with it, as well as the remarks and the jokes about their relationship. They avoided these for a couple of weeks, but, true to form, Kim, Kevin and Adam couldn't resist. Hailey and Jay weren't just together. They were in love.

During their next shift after Adam had seen Jay and Hailey together and they had confirmed their relationship to the unit, it was pretty quiet. Kim asked Hailey questions, but in a way that still respected her privacy, and Hailey was grateful. Just because they knew who her mystery guy was now, didn't mean she wanted to give away any more details than she had before and Kim respected that, respected their friendship and that way Hailey wanted to handle her relationship. It was private and both she and Jay wanted it to stay that way. Jay was very private, and he always would be. Unfortunately, when Adam was drunk at Molly's, he didn't understand this concept.

Their shift ended and Hailey, Kim, Kevin and Adam made tehri way to the locker room, but Jay remained in his office. He texted Hailey to say that he would join her and the others at Molly's later. Hailey shared this with Kim, Kevin and Adam, but she didn't share the fact that Jay was meeting them later because he was meeting a therapist because of his anxiety.

Kim was telling Hailey, Kim and Kevin about her experience of desk duty. She wasn't glad about not being on the streets, but she knew that it was for the best. It was clear that she was still feeling emotional about her pregnancy and Hailey knew this, because the two women had spoken about it.

When Hailey and Kim went to the bar, Kim suddenly asked, "I have a random question: Where do you and Jay spend most of your time, when you're together?" Kim hadn't asked any of the questions she had wanted to, about who had said 'I love you' first, because it was clear that Hailey and Jay were too private to give away that information. It was for the two of them and them alone. Kim could see how much they loved each other, and it made her happy to see them together, in their own, private way.

Hailey was slightly caught off-guard by the question, but she laughed and passed Kim her glass of water. "Before Vanessa left, at Jay's, and now we're mostly at mine." She paused, then added, "I'm glad Platt's helping you with desk duty."

Kim smiled as she replied, "She really is a great mentor. I'm always so worried about- about losing this baby, Hailey."

Hailey gave her a small smile, but there was nothing she could say, so the two women went back to the table, but Kim knew that Hailey was there for her, as her friend and college. Adam was asking Hailey questions about her relationship with Jay, but Hailey was taking them as she always did. With humor. Through her tone of voice, she told Adam she wasn't in the mood for teasing and she knew that Jay would definitely not be.

Adam took a sip of his bear and asked, "Hailey, I've got a question. Who is the better lover? Me or Jay?"

Kim rolled her eyes and glared at her husband and Hailey fixed her ex-boyfriend with her blue eyes, making her feelings clear as she just said, "I'm not going to answer that. I would love it if you would respect my privacy and Jay's."

"Why didn't you just tell us Jay was your mystery guy all along? I would've known he was a good guy?"

"Like I said before, don't question my judgement, Ruzek, or Jay's for that matter. We have each other's backs. Just drop it." Hailey made it very clear from her tone of voice and from the look in her eyes. There was no room for debate in her tone of voice or the look in her eyes and even Adam realised that he had crossed the line, so he bowed his head and said nothing for a while. He meant well, but it often didn't come across like that. He was actually glad that Hailey and Jay were together, because they seemed to be good together. He could see that he had annoyed Hailey, so she was quiet. The message was clear in his eyes and Adam felt as if he now had an understanding of a suspect who crossed Hailey in the interrogation room.

About an hour later, Jay walked over to the table, with his own drink. His eyes flicked between Hailey and Adam. He could see the tension and he knew what it was about. It was Adam, after all. He sat down next to Kim and raised his eyebrows, but he was far too tired.

Luckily, Kevin broke the tension, joking, "Here's a thought. If you guys got married, we'd have two Halsteads on the team!"

Both Hailey and Jay laughed, glancing at each other. Marriage wasn't something they had ever discussed, but they knew that they loved each other and they wanted to be together, more than anything.

Kim smiled and asked Hailey, joking, "So, Hailey, if you two get married, can I be a bridesmaid? After all, if it weren't for my wedding, you guys wouldn't be together. It just seems like poetic justice to me."

Hailey laughed and smiled warmly at Kim. She nodded as she replied, "Yeah, if we ever get married, you can be a bridesmaid, Kim."

The relaxed vibe was broken when Adam suddenly asked, "Why didn't you just tell us you were together? Jay, you're our Sergeant and you didn't think it might be good to tell us you're dating Hailey? My partner. We talked about Hailey's boyfriend and you didn't think to tell us you were her mystery guy." Hailey bit her lip. She thought Adam had seen her message and would not be going there again, tonight, but, here he was. He thought it was different because he was asking Jay now.

Jay rubbed the back of his knuckles against his head as he fixed Adam with his eyes. "Ruze, it's not a big deal. We got together and we wanted to keep it private. We didn't want you guys to make a big deal of out it." Jay shrugged and added, "I'm not going to apologise for that. Hailey's my partner, my best friend and my girlfriend. I'm in love with her. It's our business, no one else's." He suddenly smiled and asked, "Does anyone want another round? Burgess, Atwater?"

When Jay went to the bar, Adam followed him and Jay tensed, waiting for another attack from Adam. He had made it clear that he wasn't going to be treated as if his relationship with Hailey was wrong. It was the best thing that had ever happened to him. Jay thought that Adam knew that there were boundaries in their new friendship, but clearly not. Adam actually went over to Jay to tell him that he was glad that Jay was Hailey's mystery guy. He was a good guy and he knew that he and Hailey would take care of each other.

After returning to Hailey's house, Hailey finally asked, "Where does Adam get the nerve to talk to me like that? How dare he question me like that? You're my boyfriend! We were partners for years! How can he have a problem with that?"

Jay sat down on the sofa and rested his head on the back as he sighed, "I don't know. But I don't think he'll do it again." He paused as Hailey sat down next to him and sighed as he said, "I'm glad I went to therapy. I don't ever want it to get as bad as it did… before." He paused and added, "It's just something I have to live with."

Putting her arms around Jay, Hailey looked into his eyes and told him, "Jay, no matter what, we're partners, and I'll support you, always." She kissed his cheek and they sat in silence for a couple of minutes before Hailey grinned and remarked, "My arm is still a little sore sore."

Jay chuckled and looked into Hailey's eyes as he remarked, "I'm sure your mystery guy could help with that." He closed the gap between the two of them and kissed her sweetly. "Make it better." He whispered into her ear.

Hailey grinned and pulled away for a second as she looked into his green eyes and whispered, "I love you, Jay, so much. I don't care what anyone else thinks."

"You and me both, partner."
