Chapter 44: A question.
This was the very first chapter I wrote for this story, before I decided to go back to the beginning and tell the story from the beginning.
Please review if you like this chapter :).
I do not own Chicago PD or any of the characters.
Jay/Hailey. Set after series 7. At Kim and Adam's wedding, Jay and Hailey finally confessed their feelings and spent the night together and now they are back in Chicago and hiding their relationship from their friends.
For the whole week, both Jay and Hailey had been living in their own dream of happiness, in the woods in the cabin, and Hailey knew that she never wanted to be with anyone who wasn't Jay. He was her partner, her best friend and so much more.
On the drive back to Chicago, Jay was quieter than usual. He seemed to be slightly nervous about something, but Hailey let him be; when he was ready, he would talk and then she would know what was bothering him. For her, there had been nothing better than waking up next to Jay every morning and not needed to go anywhere. Being with Jay was her happiest time and it was the same for him.
It was almost evening by the time they returned to Hailey's house and Hailey pulled her long, blonde curly hair out of the ponytail, exhausted. Their trip away had been an amazing break for the two of them and, in a way, she hadn't wanted it to end. She turned to face Jay, who was carrying his suitcase and she rested her arms against the kitchen island. "Should I order Chinese or pizza?" She inquired, even though she already knew the answer.
Jay shook his head, chuckling as he wrapped his arms around Hailey's waist as he replied, "Pizza, of course." She kissed him and smiled, looking into his green eyes, before she left to order the pizza. As she was doing that, Jay looked from her to his suitcase and back to her, again. He ran his hands through his hair. It was now or never. "Hey, Hailes," he started, trying to sound as casual as possible, "What if I unpacked all of my stuff here?"
Hailey, who was looking for the number for the pizza place, just laughed and replied, "Jay, you bring your stuff here in an overnight bag all the time. I can just put your suitcase in my closest."
Smiling to himself, even though he was feeling very nervous, he walked over to Hailey and his eyes connected with hers as he took the phone out of her hand, seeing the look of confusion in her eyes, so he swallowed hard and said, "What I mean is: What if we lived together, here?" He exhaled a deep breath and asked, "What if I move in?"
For a couple of seconds, Hailey was speechless. She was processing what Jay had said. Had he really just asked her that? Her eyes filled with tears of happiness and she wrapped her arms around Jay's neck and kissed him passionately, before she broke the kiss and looked into his eyes as she whispered, "Yes! Yes, that's perfect! I'd love you live with you, Jay!"
Jay smiled back at her, wrapped his arms around her waist as he kissed her before he murmured, "That's perfect, Hailey Anne."
Hailey laughed and remarked, grinning from ear to ear, "This really has been the best week away ever! Do you want to get your stuff moved tonight?"
Smirking, Jay shook his head and wiped away her tears before saying, "No, I have a different plan for tonight." His lips caught Hailey's in a passionate kiss and they made their way to the bedroom, with the pizza totally forgotten. Neither of them had ever been this happy and they wanted to celebrate this milestone, a step they were taking together and, to both of them, nothing had ever felt so right. Nothing had ever felt so right.
