As always, Jay was the first to wake up, but, considering that their shift started later than usual this morning, he stayed where he was, with his arms around Hailey as she slept. His eyes landed on her engagement ring and it sparkled at him. It was a promise, of their future together. When the time was right, they would be married, husband and wife. Jay knew that one of Hailey's favourite things was to wake up next to him, so he smiled and rested his head next to hers and closed his eyes, waiting for her to wake. Hailey loved her sleep and Jay knew it. They were different in so many ways, including their different sleeping patterns, but they worked so well together. They always had, even when they had just been partners. This house was their home now and, soon, it would be where their married lives would start, as soon as they organised their own wedding. They had only been engaged for a couple of weeks, but they had been the happiest weeks ever, because they were together.

After a while, Hailey started to wake up and she opened her eyes and smiled. She rolled over onto her side and her eyes met Jay's. With a wide grin, she said, "Good morning, fiancée."

"Morning to you, too, fiancée." Jay's lips met hers with a kiss.

Hailey ran her hands through his hair as she whispered, "I love waking up next to you." She kissed him again and her eyes caught sight of the ring. "And I love seeing this ring. My engagement ring. Jay Halstead, we're going to be married."

Jay chuckled and ran his hands through his curls as he nodded. "I know. It's amazing. *I told you I was a man of action."

"You so are! That proposal was one of the best nights of my life!" Hailey chuckled and kissed him again, before she whispered, "Waking up, here, with you beside me, really is the best thing in the world. I love you so much."

"I love you, too." Jay rested his head against hers. "I wish we could stay here all day, but our shift starts in an hour. Shall I make us some breakfast whilst you have a shower?"

Hailey laughed as she nodded. "If you must." She paused, then added, "We should talk about our wedding: Where and when we want it to be."

"That we can do, during breakfast." Jay gave her a chaste kiss and Hailey laughed as he left their bed and found an old T-shirt. Hailey smiled to herself and smiled at her engagement ring, before she left their bed to go to the shower.

Over a breakfast of waffles and coffee, Hailey and Jay established basics about their wedding: It would be in a church, in Chicago and they wanted to be married before the end of the year. It would be a very small wedding, with few guests, including their team and Voight. That meant they would need to tell them about being engaged, but Jay assured Hailey that it was one step at a time. Hailey also wanted to have control over the wedding. She didn't want Gail to have all of the control and Jay agreed, but he also knew that it would be a balancing act between the two women. Avery came out of her room and the teenager was included in the conversation. Jay and Hailey wanted a very simple and small wedding. Avery started to talk about wedding dresses and Jay was happy to see that she was so happy about this. She and Hailey had formed a close bond and he was glad.

Their conversations were interrupted by their phones ringing, so Jay jumped into the shower quickly and he and Hailey went into Hailey's car and made their way to the District, leaving Avery to tidy up, but she didn't mind. She liked having her new family.

"What have we got?" Jay asked, using his Sergeant voice as they walked up the steps. Hailey made her way to her desk and sat down, looking at the information on the board.

Kevin and Adam briefed Jay and Hailey, before Jay walked into his office to make the appropriate calls. Suddenly, Adam caught sight of the ring on Hailey's finger. Her engagement ring. With a smile, he walked over to his partner and asked, in an amused tone, "Something you want to tell us, Upton?" Kevin looked and noticed it, too, and he bit his lip, wondering how Hailey would react.

The female detective looked down at her ring, before she just simply smiled and replied, "Jay and I are engaged. We have been for a couple of weeks."

A huge smile spread across Adam's face. "Woah! That's amazing! I can't believe you didn't tell us. You guys are so sneaky."

Hailey bit her lip. She and Jay weren't sneaky, they were private when it came to their personal lives. When Jay left his office, Adam and Kevin congratulated him. Confused, Jay looked at Hailey and he noticed that her engagement ring was on. A mistake, but it was there and he smiled. His eyes found hers and they knew that they were good. They were engaged to be married and had never been happier than they were right now.
