Chapter 54: I've never loved anyone as much as I love you.

Jay/Hailey. Set after series 7. At Kim and Adam's wedding, Jay and Hailey finally confessed their feelings and spent the night together and now they are back in Chicago and hiding their relationship from their friends.

I do not own Chicago PD or any of the characters.

Here is the next chapter. I actually had this planned before Jay and Hailey eloped in the series :)

I loved writing this chapter and I hope you enjoy reading it. I can't wait to hear what you think about this chapter :)

The next morning, Jay booked a couple of days off from work and suggested to Hailey that they go to his grandfather's cabin. A chance to get away from the stress of yesterday and to be away from Hailey's anxiety about the abstract idea of their wedding and Hailey agreed. They made a pact: When they were away, neither of them would mention their wedding. They would just enjoy being together. They would have their wedding, their new chapter, but when they were ready for the wedding. Both Jay and Hailey knew they wanted to marry each other, and Jay just wanted Hailey to be happy.

As soon as their decision was made, they packed Jay's truck with their suitcase and made their way to the cabin. Hailey was still wearing her engagement ring. It was the promise of their future together, even if it felt shaky right now. The thing that she was sure of was Jay. Jay was her certain and all of the other details about the wedding were uncertain and scary, but she had Jay. All Jay wanted was for Hailey to have a wedding she was happy and comfortable with; neither of them had wanted a big wedding to begin with, but now, he thought Hailey wanted an even smaller one. She didn't want her father there and he respected that. They would make it work. They would find a wedding that was right for them, because they always did. They were partners, after all.

As they drove closer to Wisconsin, Hailey felt her stress disappearing. There was something about this cabin, this place, that was so peaceful. Jay felt the same, too. He never needed his medication when they were there. It was strange to think the last time they had been there, it had been before their first-year anniversary. Before Jay had proposed. They were engaged and the thought suddenly made Hailey feel very happy and safe and she kissed Jay on the cheek as they were driving. She loved him and he loved her and, somehow, they were going to be married, even if they had no idea how they would do it.

Their first night in the cabin, they had dinner and snuggled on the sofa in front of the fire. Hailey was the first to fall asleep, in Jay's arms. She was relaxed here. Jay kissed her head and smiled at her, admiring how beautiful she was, inside and out, and how beautiful she looked with her engagement ring, before he settled down to sleep next to her.

Hailey and Jay spent most of the next day in bed, relaxing and spending time in a way that was rare when they at home. They could just be together and not worry about anything. Not think about anything, besides being together. It was just what Hailey needed and Jay, too, considering how stressed he had been when he had found Hailey having a panic attack the other day. For Jay and Hailey, there was something magical about this place and they wanted to make the most of every second that they were together, in the woods.

That afternoon, it was snowing, so Jay and Hailey put on their hats and gloves and went for a walk in the snow, before Hailey decided to have a snowball fight, which, again, she won. Her blue eyes were shining because of her blue hat and her blonde curls looked so pretty in the snow. Jay's hat was black, but Hailey still thought he looked great in it. They were both wearing gloves. Holding her arms up in victory, "I win, Halstead!"

Jay grinned and asked, "We could have a re-match, Upton?"

Hailey tilted her head and smiled, "Or, you could give me my payment?" She laughed and smiled as Jay walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"What's the payment, again?" He joked.

Putting her arms around his neck, Hailey joked, "Stop talking, Halstead, and kiss me."

Smirking, Jay nodded. "Yes, ma'am." Looking into Hailey's eyes, his lips found her, with a soft and tender kiss, with his arms around her waist.

They stayed there, kissing, as the snow started to fall around them, but neither of them cared. Their lips finally parted and Hailey left her arms around Jay's neck, wanting to be as close to him as possible. Her blue eyes shone as she looked at Jay, her fiancée, her best friend, as they were together, in the snow. Without missing a second, Hailey simply said, "Marry me. Now. Tonight."

Jay was slightly taken aback as he asked, "What? Are you serious?"

Looking into his eyes, Hailey smiled and said, in a soft and loving voice, "Jay, I'm deadly serious, I love you, so much. I've never loved anyone as much as I love you and I don't want to wait a day more until I'm your wife."

With a smile on his lips, Jay responded, "I've never loved anyone as much I loved you." He paused and said, "Let's do it, Hailes. Let's find somewhere to get married."

Hailey smiled and caught Jay's lips in a passionate kiss, before she whispered, between their kisses, "I can't wait to be your wife, Jay Halstead."

"And I can't wait to be your husband." They looked into each other's eyes and hugged, holding each other close as the snow continued to fall around them. It really was a magical day.

When Jay and Hailey returned to the cabin, they researched where the nearest church was and what would be required from them to get married. They needed a marriage license, which they were granted in a matter of hours and Hailey called the church and the minister agreed to perform the marriage service for the two of them at 9:00, that evening. This was really happening and neither of them had been happier. In the closest town, they found rings that fitted each of them, then they needed to decide what to wear. It was their wedding day after all. Their families and their friends would be disappointed, but that didn't matter right now. It was about them and what was right for them. Nothing else mattered. After much deliberation, Hailey chose a light, blue dress, with an allice band Jay had given her for their anniversary and it fitted perfectly with her blonde curls and light, blue dress. By a stroke of fate, Jay stored his formal green, Ranger uniform at the cabin and he decided he wanted to wear that for their wedding.

As they were changing, Hailey realised she had to take off her engagement ring so that their wedding rings could go onto their fingers, so she placed it into a safe place and changed into the dress. She slipped her body into her blue dress and put the allice band into her blonde curls.

Since returning to civilian life, Jay had only worn his formal Army uniform at funerals, but, tonight, it was a wedding. His wedding. His and Hailey's wedding and he had never been happier. He placed the hat on his head and glanced at the medals which were placed on his breast and, for the first time, he was proud of his medals. They were a part of who he was and now Hailey was going to be his wife.

Their eyes landed on the other and their faces spread into smiles. Hailey tilted her head and remarked, "Jay, you look so handsome. The man I'm about to marry."

Jay walked over to her and rested his head against hers as he told her, "You look beautiful, Hailey. Inside and out." He paused, then asked, "We ready to go?" He bit his lip, then added, "I have something for you, if you like. For your something borrowed and blue." Hailey looked at him, with curiosity in her smile. Jay held out a blue, diamond neckless and, with a smile, told her, "It was my mum's. She left it to me after she died. She told me to give it to my girl on our wedding day."

Hailey turned around as Jay secured it around her neck and her fingers went to the neckless. It was beautiful, for its own value and its value for Jay. She turned back to face Jay and smiled softly, "It's beautiful, Jay. It means so much to me." She stood on her tiptoes and found Jay's lips, kissing him softly, before she smiled, "Let's go and do this, partner." Jay chuckled and kissed her back, nodding. They were about to be married. They were about to be husband and wife. A new partnership. The thing they both wanted more than anything in the world.

Half an hour later, Hailey and Jay arrived outside of the church and they stepped out of the truck and into the church. Before they stepped inside, Jay stopped and, looking into Hailey's eyes with nothing but love, he held his arm out to her and, with a smile, she accepted his arm and wrapped her arm in the hook on his arm. She rested her head against his shoulder and Jay softly kissed the top of her head before they walked into the church.

Inside the church, Jay and Hailey stood at the altar, opposite each other, holding hands, ready to become husband and wife. Hailey spoke her vows first, looking into Jay's eyes. "Jay, I never thought I'd be so lucky as to fall in love with my best friend. At another wedding, I turned to a friend for comfort, and I found what I've been looking for my whole life and now, here we are, with our future ahead of us. Our new chapter and you're the only one I can ever imagine being with. My partner, my best friend. I, Hailey Anne Upton, take you, Jay Halstead, as my husband. I promise to love you in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, for richer, for poorer, from this day forward. Till death to us part."

Jay wiped away one of her tears and began his own vows, "Hailey, you stole my heart years ago and you're the best partner I've ever had and always will be. I'd follow you anywhere. I love you, Hailey, and you're the woman I was meant to spend the rest of my life with. You and me, forever. I, Jay Halstead, take you, Hailey Anne Upton, as my wife. I promise to faithfully love you in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, for richer, for poorer, from this day forward. Till death do us part." One of his fingers reached up and grazed her cheek and Hailey smiled and bit her lip, holding back a tear.

Holding out the rings, Jay and Hailey exchanged rings, placing them on the other's finger. It felt like the best thing in the world and their eyes never left each other's.

There was a silence before the minister declared, "I now declare you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."

With matching smiles, Jay put his arm around Hailey as their lips met for the first kiss. Their first kiss as husband and wife. Hailey kissed Jay with all of the love that she was feeling in the moment and then opened her eyes and looked into her eyes of her husband. Jay opened her eyes and they looked into each other's eyes before Jay put his arms around her waist and Hailey put her arms around his neck and they shared another kiss as a married couple.

In the church, Jay and Hailey signed the papers to say that they were legally married and Hailey petitioned to change her surname to Halstead. Hailey Halstead. Jay and Hailey were married. They had done it. Their lives were now joined, forever. Outside of the church, the minister insisted on taking a picture of the two of them. He said it was their wedding day and they deserved to have a photograph to remember this special day.

When they arrived back at the cabin, Jay placed Hailey's engagement ring on her finger, right next to her wedding ring. Jay kissed her temple as he whispered, "I love you, Hailey Halstead. Till death do us part."

Smiling, Hailey whispered back, "I love you, too, Jay Halstead. Till death do us part."

In the cabin, they held each other and danced together, like they said they would when they married. Holding each other close, they danced, sharing their first dance as a married couple.

As their dance came to an end, Hailey and Jay shared a loving look, before they started to kiss. It was a passionate kiss, one full of their love and the promises of their future together. Their new chapter, together. They continued to kiss and they made their way to the bed before taking off their clothes and spending their first night together as a married couple, as they held each other close. They were together for the rest of their lives, in sickness and in health and sorrow and joy, from that day forward.
