It began as a normal day for Raphtalia. She met up with the other demi-human children in the town square and raced with them over to the field. She always came in first place due to being the fastest runner. After which she and the other children would play a game of tag.

After a while of running around, Raphtalia got tired and went to sit in a nearby log with her best friend Rifana. The both of them were talking about who they liked to date or even marry when they get older. It led to Rifana asking Raphtalia the question of who she loved.

The first person that came to Raphtalia's mind was her own father. However, when she said this, Her best friend quickly shot that choice down and told her to pick someone her own age.

It took her a moment for the tanuki girl to come up with an answer, in the end, she decided on Keel. to her Keel was the coolest boy she knew.

Not that she'll ever have the courage to tell Keel that.

Raphtalia then asked Rifana who she loved, and the weasel almost immediately answered.

"When I grow up, I want to marry the shield hero," Rifana said with a bright hopeful smile on her face.

"Really?" Raphtalia asked, a little bit surprised at her friend's answer, to which the other girl nodded her head.

"Yeah, my parents always told me how much he was so kind to demi-humans like us," Rifana explained. She then clasped her hands together, and with stars in her eyes, she said, "I'm hoping that I could be able to meet him one day."

Raphtalia let out a giggle at her friend's words.

"Yeah, I also want to be able to meet him as we-"

Raphtalia was cut off mid-sentence when, as if in a brief flash, the sky tore open and turned into a sickly green. Both of the girls were shocked and confused as to what was happening.

"Wh-what's happening," Rifana asked fearfully, as what looked like meteors began to fall from the hole in the sky.

"I don't know," Keel suddenly said as he saw one of the meteors crash some distance away from where they were, "Hey, let's go check it out."

Before he had a chance to run through, Raphtalia stopped him.

"I don't think that's a good idea Keel," She said, concern evident in her voice. Raphtalia couldn't help but feel that something bad was going to happen, "I think we should head back to the village,"

"Raphtalia's right," Rifana also said, just as concerned as her friend, "It might be dangerous."

Keel looked at them and then back toward the green sky as more meteors continued to fall to earth.

"Y-yeah, let's head back," the boy said nervously, also unnerved by the event.

With that, the kids ran back toward the village. On their way, however, the four stumble across something they have never seen before. Blocking their path was a small group of blob-like monsters. The monsters reminded the three of the balloon monsters that they occasionally see, except these had a spike jutting out from the back of their bodies, appeared to be made out of some kind of green goo, and their eyes glowed a deep hateful red that unsettled the children.

A few of the strange monsters leaped toward the trio, each one opening their mouths wide in an attempt to bite down on their prey with their sharp teeth. The children managed to avoid the attacks by ducking underneath the monsters and began to run away from them. The creatures gave chase, their jaws snapping as they bounced after the demi-human children.

The creatures were relentless as they chased the demi-human children. No matter how much they ran the creatures would continue to be on their tails, the constant snapping of the blob monsters' sharp "teeth" being a constant reminder of their presence to the young children.

It kept going like this until the three ran into a wooded area and jumped behind a group of rocks. There, they kept quiet as they heard the creatures bounce past them

They remained that way even after they couldn't hear the monsters anymore. After a moment, Keel peeked out from behind the rocks and was relieved to see that the small horde was gone.

"I think we lost them," he said quietly.

The two girls let out a breath they hadn't realized they were holding as they relaxed slightly, however, the three children still couldn't help but feel dread.

"W-what were those things," RIfana asked nervously as she hugged Rapthalia's arm in fear.

"I-I think they might be monsters from the Wave of Catastrophe," Rapthalia answered nervously as she looked up into the sky, while also placing her free hand on Rifana's.

"Seriously, l-like the ones in the stories?" Keel exclaimed in shock, "are you sure?"

Raphtalia nodded her head, "Y-yeah, the monsters look like they came from that hole in the sky, just like in stories."

"What are we going to do?" Keel asked worriedly, before his eyes widened in alarm, "Wait what about the village!? I think I heard Sadeena and the other hunters went on a fishing expedition!"

"Ma-Maybe the cardinal heroes will come and save us," Rifana brought up with a hopeful tone in her voice, "Aren't they supposed to be summoned when the Waves appear?"

"G-guys," Raphtalia's fearful voice got both Rifana and Keel's attention. They both looked toward the raccoon girl and saw that she was looking over their heads with a fearful expression on her face.

Following her gaze, they saw one of the creatures that were chasing them sitting on top of one of the rocks the children were hiding behind. Its red eyes glared down towards them. Keel and Rifana both stepped back fearfully. The small creature seemed to grin sinisterly at the children's actions.

"I-It's alright," Keel said trying to hide the fear in his voice, as he picked up a nearby stick, "there's only one of them, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about."

At that declaration, the creature's grin seemed to widen, and let out what sounded like a gurgled giggle that made the children feel a bit more uneasy.

The green blob-like creature then jumped upwards before it melted into the rock it was sitting upon. The rocks then began to shake violently and crack all over, causing the three demi-human children to once again step back in fear. Their eyes widened when some of the rocks shifted to form arms and pushed the rest up off the ground.

They looked up in both awe and horror as the rocks formed into what could only be described as a large golem. It was covered top to bottom with cracks, though it didn't seem to affect the golem all that much, and the children also noticed how green light seemed to be emitting from the cracks. On the largest part of the golem, the cracks seemed to form something like a face.

It looked down toward the demi-human children, and a malicious grin appeared on its crack stony face. It then let out a deep roar as it brought one of its arms up high with the intent of crushing the children.

Raphtalia, Rifana, and Keel all let out a scream as they jumped out of the way of the attack and began to run deeper into the woods. The golem let out another roar and began chasing them, the ground shaking with each footstep and knocking down any tree that would impede its movements.

The children ran as fast as they could to get away from the golem, its heavy footsteps echoing loudly in their ears. They kept on running until something jumped right in their path forcing them to stop in their tracks.

They looked up in fear at the large monster before them. In front of them was an unorthodox yet surprisingly seamless fusion of a mammal, arachnid, and plant. The monster's torso resembles that of a spider but had only six legs instead of eight, and had razor-sharp spines down its back. Its head looked like that of a wolf's, with long razor-sharp teeth, and two pairs of glowing blood-red eyes glaring hatefully down towards the demi-human children. The entire creature also seemed to be made entirely out of wood, as if a tree went through some sort of intense mutation that resulted in its current form. Judging from the glowing green goo that was leaking from the creature's joints that was probably the case.

The monster growled menacingly as more of that green goo dripped through its teeth like saliva from a rabid animal. The goo that dripped down to the ground sizzled as if it were acid. The monster let out a ferocious bark as it lunged toward Keel in an attempt to bite his head off. Fortunately, Rifana was able to push him out of the way before that could happen.

It let out a frustrated growl before its attention shifted over to Raphtalia who was shaking in fear. It lunged towards her, its maw opened wide. The young girl's eyes widened before she lept to the side to avoid the attack. Because of this, the monster's own momentum made it crash into a large rock, disorienting it.

From where she laid on the ground, Raphtalia looked over her shoulder and saw that the monster was shaking the cobwebs from its head. It then once again glared towards her, green goo dripping from its mouth as it growled.

The young raccoon girl couldn't help but gulp in fear before she pushed herself off the ground and began to run as fast as she could. The monster barked as it began to chase after her.

"Raphtalia!" both Keel and Rifana cried out in worry. Keel began to run in order to help out his friend, but he felt Rifana grab onto his shirt and pull him back, right before a large stone arm smashed down on the spot where he used to be. The force of the blow caused the two demi-human children to be sent flying onto their backs.

Both Keel and Rifana's eyes widened in horror as they looked up at the hulking figure of the golem they were originally running away from. They both immediately pushed themselves off the ground and began to run in the opposite direction, with the golem not far behind them.

Raphtalia ran as fast as she could, faster than she ever ran before. She weaved around the trees and bushes as best as she could as she also avoided the numerous attacks from the monster whenever it got close enough to her. Her legs and lungs burned and ached, practically begging for her to let them rest. However, Raphtalia knew she couldn't stop, else the monster would kill her. Either by stabbing her with one of its large spider-like legs, or rip her to shreds with its razor-sharp teeth. Neither outcome sounded appealing to her.

She then noticed a large tree that seemed to have its roots growing out of the ground. Said roots also seem to form something like a small cave underneath the tree itself. The improvised cave looked like it was large enough for her to crawl inside, while too small for the monster to be able to fit even its head. If she could reach it, she should be safe.

Without losing her pace, Raphtalia ran in the direction of the cave. She jumped between two trees that grow close to each other. There was just enough space between the two trees for Raphtalia to squeeze through unimpeded, however the same can't be said for the monster. As it made one more lunge toward the raccoon girl, its body slammed into the pair of trees with its head getting stuck in between the gap.

The monster let out furious barks as it thrashed around in an attempt to free itself. Raphtalia didn't even bother to risk looking back as she continued running toward the cave.

She was only halfway there when something slammed into her side, accompanied by a loud snapping sound. Raphtalia found herself flying through the air before she felt her small form smack onto something hard before she fell onto the dirt. Raphtalia curled herself into a small ball as her entire body ached in pain, especially in the side of her chest and her right arm. Especially her right arm. Her arm felt like it was on fire, it was the worst feeling she had ever felt before in her life. She also felt something wet run down her face and tasted a bit of metal in her mouth.

Raphtalia looked up from her feeble position and immediately lost all color in her face as fear and hopelessness overtook her. In front of Raphtalia were three more of the same spider wolf monster, each of them glaring at her with hatred within their red eyes, and green goo dripping from their mouths.

Raphtalia tried to push herself up off the ground, but when she tried to even move her right arm she felt a wave of pain wash over her. Looking down to her arm, her eyes widened when she saw it bent unnaturally.

The monsters' growling returned her attention back to the monsters. Seeing as their prey was seemingly unable to move anymore, all four monsters were now slowly making their way to her. Raphtalia could only watch in terror as they approached her. She couldn't move due to the immense pain she felt, and even if she could she doubted she would be quick enough to outrun the monsters. She couldn't help but be completely overwhelmed by fear. She wasn't sure if it was her imagination or not, but she was sure that each of the monsters were now sporting sadistic grins on top of their snouts.

Raphtalia closed her eyes shut in preparation for the end, while also inwardly praying for someone, anyone to come and save her.

"OI, FEOS!"

The sudden voice, accompanied by a strange metallic clanging sound, immediately followed by a loud boom made Raphtalia open her eyes. The first thing she saw was something colliding with one of the monsters, knocking it to the side. Looking toward the direction the monster was sent to, she saw said lupine arachnid crushed underneath a large rock with only its legs visible and more of that green goo splattered underneath the rock. Then for one reason or another, the creature's legs began to melt into the same green goo.

The remaining monsters' growling returned Raphtalia's attention back to them. This time though their attention was, thankfully, not on her anymore and were now glaring in the direction of where the rock came from.

Following their gaze, the young raccoon girl's eyes widened in surprise when she saw the newcomer and the owner of the voice. The newcomer was a young man who looked to be about in his early 20s, had light brown skin, dark lightly spiked hair that was slicked backward. He wore clothing that, in Raphtalia's opinion, looked strange. He wore a red jacket with orange stripes over a blue and white shirt, a pair of black form-fitting pants, a pair of black boots, and wore a pair of goggles over his eyes.

Raphtalia couldn't see any animal traits, so she figured that he was human. However, what had surprised Raphtalia was the large orange cannon that the newcomer wielded. It was easily much larger than his entire body, yet he was able to carry it with just one hand with no issue at all. Not only that but the cannon looked to be fused into the newcomer's arm.

"How about you mutts pick on someone your own size," the newcomer said with a taunting tone, a confident smile on his face, "that is unless you're just a bunch of scaredy cats."

Apparently understanding his insult, the monsters narrowed their eyes before charging towards the newcomer.

The newcomer's smirk widened even more at this and, to add even more to Raphtalia's surprise, the cannon melted back into his arm. Suddenly, ginormous orange metal fists, each also larger than their owner, grew from each of his fists.

One of the lupine arachnids pounced on top of the newcomer, only to instead receive a face full of metal. It was sent flying back and smashed against a large rock. It slid and fell down to the ground unmoving.

Another monster tried to skewer the newcomer's head with one of its front legs, but he effortlessly dodged the attack. The newcomer then grabbed the monster with one of his metallic hands and used it to smack the last monster that was charging towards him to the side.

The monster within the newcomer's metallic grasp let out a groan before it shook the cobweb out of its head. Once it regained its bearing, it let out furious barks as it repeatedly stabbed the accursed metal appendage with its free legs. Green spit escaped from its mouth and fell onto the newcomer's face. Raphtalia noticed how he seemed to flinch in slight pain when the green substance made contact with his skin.

"Ah jeez," the newcomer said with annoyance as he lifted the monster over his head. The monster in question continued thrashing within his grip, at least until the hand it was trapped in began to rotate at an incredible speed, "Hasn't anyone taught you it's rude to SPIT!"

With that, the newcomer smashed the monster into the ground. The impact caused a large amount of dirt and dust to fly everywhere, and caused Raphtalia to shield her face to prevent any dirt from getting into her eyes. When she looked back, she saw the monster was now a mangled mess as it lay in a puddle of green goo. The monster's carcass then began to melt, turning into the same goo it laid in, before evaporating into nothing.

The newcomer smiled as he shook off the slime that covered his metallic hand. Raphtalia then noticed that one of the last two remaining monsters was now perched high up in the trees. At the same time, the other monsters appeared right before the newcomer, its eyes narrowed and growling viciously.

"Oh hey, by yourself big guy?" the newcomer asked with a smirk as he stared down the monster before him, "where's your friend?"

At that, the monster hiding up in the trees leaped down toward the newcomer who seemed to not notice it. Raphtalia's eyes widened in horror at what was about to happen and opened her mouth.

"Look out behi-"

However, halfway through her warning, the newcomer spun around and grabbed the monster that tried to ambush him with his left metal fist. It too also let out furious barks and repeatedly stabbed the accursed metal appendage with its free legs.

"Oh there you are," he said before his other metal hand melted back into his arm before being immediately replaced with the Biggest Fattest Sword Raphtalia has ever seen. She was fairly certain that it would be the biggest sword anyone would ever lay their eyes on.

It was so massive that it should have been completely impossible to wield, much less swing. Yet that proved to not be the case when the newcomer effortlessly swung it and chopped the monster's head off of its body.

The monster's body went limp before it, as well as it's dismembered head, too began to melt into a puddle of green goo before dissolving into nothing.

Seeing the last of its pack being destroyed, as well as their ambush failing completely, the last remaining wolf-spider let out a ferocious bark and charged toward the newcomer in a blind rage.

The newcomer simply spun around and, with a diagonal upward swing of his sword, cleanly sliced the last monster in two.

The momentum of the beast caused the two halves to continue past the newcomer before crashing onto the forest ground. And just like the others, its remains began to melt into a puddle of goo before promptly dissolving into nothing.

Raphtalia couldn't help but stare in awe toward the newcomer who effortlessly took down four of those strange monsters and saved her life. She briefly wondered if he was one of the four cardinal heroes, probably the sword hero. He definitely displays amazing abilities, so it's possible he might be.

Her musings were cut off when both of the newcomer's metal appendages melted back into his arms, and he quickly made his way over to her.

"Hey kid, are you alright?" he asked softly as he knelt down next to her, before pulling his goggles up to his forehead, revealing brown eyes that looked at her in concern.

Raphtalia was then reminded of her arm's condition and let out a pained whimper when she moved her arm.

"Hang on, let me help you," the newcomer said as he slowly and gently helped the young raccoon girl into a sitting position, being careful as to not aggravate the broken limb. His eyes furrowed a bit when he looked at her broken arm, "It's bad, but don't worry I know a guy who can fix this up no problem."

The newcomer gave Raphtalia a reassuring smile.

"In the meantime, though I'm going to have to do something to keep it in place, that way it doesn't get worse," He explained before picking up a few nearby sticks, he then reached into his jacket and pulled out a roll of cloth.

As he got to work with making Raphtalia a makeshift cast, the young girl was now able to recollect her thoughts as well as the day's events. Everything went by so fast, from the hole opening in the sky, to being swarmed by strange horrifying monsters, getting separated from Keel and Rifana-

Raphtalia eyes widened at that last thought.

"Oh no, Rifana, Keel!" she suddenly cried out, surprising the newcomer. That's right, the last time she saw both of her friends was when that monster began chasing after her. And with all the numerous monsters appearing, she couldn't help but worry about her friends.

So deep into her worry that she tried to stand up, however as she did so she aggravated her injured arm. She let out a pained whimper.

"Whoa, easy there," the newcomer said in a worried tone, "what's wrong?"

"My friends, Rifana and Keel, the three of us ran into the forest trying to hide from the monsters, but we ended up getting separated from each other!" Rapthalia explains, fear evident in her voice, "If the monsters get them-"

"Don't worry, me and my friends won't let anything happen to them," The newcomer said gently as he gave a reassuring smile, which helped calm the girl down. The newcomer then brought his hand up and pressed two fingers against his ear, much to her confusion.

"Hey Ninja there's at least two more civilians in the forest, their names are Rifana and Keel, hurry and find them before any of Fuse's monsters do," He said as if he were talking to someone who wasn't there, "also I got someone here who needs to be healed."

With that, the newcomer quickly finished up making Raphtalia's makeshift cast before helping her up to her feet.

"Alrighty then," he said as he stood up from his kneeling position before picking Raphtalia up off the ground. The next thing she knew a strange metal...thing...grew from his legs. She really didn't know how to describe it, other than the fact it was overall orange and grey and had what looked like a pair of short handles pointing out to the side right in front of her.

The newcomer set her down on top of it and both she and the newcomer were now straddling it similar to how she saw people do when on top of a horse or filolial.

"Now keep your hands inside at all times," the newcomer quipped as he grasped onto the handles in front of Raphtalia. The young girl couldn't help look up towards the newcomer in both confusion and curiosity at his words, something he noticed.

"You know," the newcomer wiggle one of his arms up and down in wave-like motion, "like a rollercost-"

The newcomer paused, apparently just realizing something. He then palmed his face and let out a groan, "Right, you probably don't have something like that here in this world."

The newcomer pulled his goggles over his face and once again placed his hands on the handles.

"Oh, and by the way, the names Rex," the newcomer introduced himself looking down toward the girl, "what's yours?"

"Raphtalia," the young raccoon girl said, to which Rex smiled.

"That's a nice name," he said before looking forward.

"Alright, hang on tight," Rex said to which Raphtalia did so.

The young raccoon girl couldn't help but let out a shout of surprise when they suddenly sped off into the forest.

Riffana and Keel ran as fast as their legs could carry them. The sound of heavy footfalls and the shattering of wood being a constant reminder of the monster chasing them.

They've been running nonstop for what felt like forever. Their legs ached and felt like they were on fire. Every now and then one of the pairs would stumble a bit, but fortunately they still kept their footing and didn't trip.

While neither of them were as fast a runner as Raphtalia, they were still able to keep a fair amount of distance from the golem. While the golem was deceptively fast, thankfully it's bulky size would cause it to slow down (if only briefly) whenever it needed to plow through an obstacle such as a fallen tree and such would block its path.

Still, both Riffana and Keel knew they couldn't keep it up forever, and sooner or later the Golem would catch up unless something was done.

"NINJA AIR FIST!"

And that something was a loud shout, immediately followed by a seemingly invisible force striking the golem's chest. The force of the blow not only stopped the golem but caused it to be sent flying backward and crashing into the ground.

Both of the children stopped and looked back toward the fallen golem, their faces showing a mix of shock, confusion, and a bit of relief. They didn't get much time to ponder what just happened when something swung down and scoped the both of them off their feet.

Both Riffana and Keel let out a startled yelp as they, along with whoever snatched them off the ground, were swung up high into the treetops and landed on a large sturdy branch. After the both of them were gently set down on the branch, did Riffana and Keel manage to get a good look at who would most likely be their savior.

He was a tall individual, who while slim still had tone muscles. He was wearing a form-fitting black with red lining suit that covered him head to toe, with only his sapphire blue eyes visible, a red sash wrapped around his waist, and wrapped around his neck was a long red scarf.

"Stay here, you'll be safe," he said, his voice sounding similar to that of a young adult. The two demi-human children watched as he gracefully leaped off the branch and down to the ground.

The newcomer only stared as the golem climbed back onto its feet with a bit of difficulty. Make sense thanks in large part to the large fist-sized hole that went all the way through its chest. Though the hole within the golem seemed to be closing slowly and steadily repairing itself. Despite this, the new individual hardly seemed bothered by it, though it was hard to tell since neither Rifanna nor Keel could see his face.

The new individual let out a low chuckle before bringing one of his arms up and made the "come at me" gesture toward the golem in a taunting manner.

The golem let out a ferocious roar before it charged toward the new individual, who in turn also sprinted in the direction of the golem.

When both combatants got close enough to each other the golem raised one of its arms up with the full intention of completely crushing the one who dared to oppose it. But before it got the chance to do so, the new individual jumped and slid between the golem's legs, wrapping one of its legs with his scarf, all the while yelling, "NINJA SLIDE!"

As the new individual came to stop in a kneeling position, he yanked the scarf and pulled the golem's leg from right underneath it. The golem fell face first onto the group with a loud boom.

The new individual leaps onto the golem's back, unraveling his scarf from its leg in the process. He then pulled something from within his stash. From up on top of the branch both Riffana and Keel saw that he pulled out some kind of black orb that was large enough to fit comfortably within the newcomer's hand.

"Here try a Ninja Boom Ball!" the new individual yelled out as he threw the orb into the hole within the golem, before leaping away. The golem was beginning to push itself off the ground when it exploded from the inside out, sending both chunks of rocks and green goo everywhere.

Both Riffanna and Keel could only stare with their jaws dropped in both awe and wonder at this new individual and how he easily defeated that monstrous golem. They were taken out of their stupor when the new individual leaped back onto the branch and brought them back down to the ground. He then gently set both of the demi-human children down.

Both RIfanna and Keel looked up in awe and amazement. The latter having stars in his eyes.

"You kids alright?" the new individual asked as he knelt in front of the two. Rifanna simply nodded her head in confirmation. Keel was more vocal.

"That was so cool, you totally kicked that monster's butt like it was nothing!" Keel exclaimed in excitement.

The new individual blink in surprise before waving his hand in a nonchalant manner.

"Oh it was not a big deal," he replied as he placed his fists on his hips (oh hey that kind of rhymed), "those kinds of guys are pretty much fodder."

Before either of the children could comment on what he said, he knelt down in front of them.

"By the way are your names Riffanna and Keel by any chance," he asked much to the two's surprise.

"Y-yes how did you know that?" Riffana asked, wondering how he knew their names.

"One of my friends found someone who was worried about the both of you and-" the new individual explained but was cut off by Keel.

"Raphtalia! We got separated when we were being chased by those monsters! Is she alright!?" he pleaded, concern evident in his voice, hoping that his friend was all right. Next to him Rifanna looked toward the new individual, concern, and worry clearly showing in her eyes as well.

"Easy, easy!" The new individual said as he raised his hands up in a reassuring manner, "Don't worry, my friend got to her so I'm sure she's fine."

Both Rifana and Keel relaxed, as relief washed over them. At that, the new individual stood up and pressed two fingers to his ear.

"Hey Rex, I managed to find them," he said as if talking to someone. Both Rifana and Keel tilted their heads in both confusion and curiosity as the new individual continued talking, "Yeah they're both alright, did you forget my ninja art of healing? If they got hurt I could easily patch them up as good as new."

Rifana and Keel looked at each other. 'Ninja art of Healing'? Neither Rifana nor Keel knew what the "ninja" part meant, but they realized that it could be some form of healing magic.

"By the way, where do you want to meet up," the new individual said, gaining the demi-humans' attention again, "Alright, we'll be right there."

With that, the new individual picked both of the demi-human children up in his arms.

"Alright, hold on," he said before running into a sprint.

"Where are we going?" Rifana asked as she gripped the individual's suit.

"We're going to meet up with a buddy of mine," he answered as he leaped up into the air, and avoided being bitten by another one of those spider wolf monsters. He reached into his stash before tossing a number of emerald-colored orbs.

"Ninja Electro Balls!"

All of the orbs struck the monster's body and unleashed massive amounts of electricity. The lupine arachnid let out an agonizing howl as its body convulsed due to the electric current coursing throughout its body. Once the electricity died down, the monster's body fell to the ground, completely limp. Its body then begins to melt into a puddle of green goo, before dissolving into nothing.

Neither Keel nor Rifana got a chance to ponder on what just happened to the monster as they landed on a branch before leaping into the air again.

"And I'm most definitely not going to leave a bunch of kids alone in the forest full of wonking alien monsters. I would be a major shoob if I did," the newcomer quipped, as they continued jumping from branch to branch at an incredible speed.

It wasn't long until the new individual, Rifana, and Keel found themselves on the edge of the woods. Both of the demi-human children looked up and saw that the sky was still a sickly green and more of those meteors were still falling out of it.

Looking out into the distance, both children saw more monsters like the ones they encountered.

Much more.

They witness what could only be described as an endless horde of monsters swarming the area. Everywhere they looked, they saw more of those spider wolf monsters, golems, and most abundant were that blob-like creature. There were even blob-like monsters that were large enough to eat a fully grown adult whole. They even saw some new monsters as well, some were giant wasp-like monsters the size of a horse, and some looked like trees that came to life and grew faces that were filled with nothing but hate.

Both Rifana and Keel could watch in fear at the large number of horrifying monsters before them. Fortunately, they were far enough away that they wouldn't notice them even if they were completely out of the woods.

"Alright now we wait for-" the new individual began to talk when suddenly something came racing out of the woods not too far from them before coming to a stop. Both Rifana and Keel blinked in surprise at what they saw.

It was some kind of strange metallic orange and grey object that was somehow able to hover over the ground. Riding on it were two people, one was human with light brown skin, dark lightly spiked hair that was slicked backward, and wore strange clothing. The other was a demi-human child like them, who had a pair of raccoon ears and long brown hair, and both children instantly recognized who it was.

"It's Raphtalia!" Keel and Rifana cried out in relief.

With both Demi-human children still in his grasp, the new individual leaped off the branch and landed near the other pair, and gained their attention. Rifana and Keel immediately ran toward the raccoon girl who also began to run to them as soon as she saw them. Both Rifana and Keel noticed her arm in a cast, as well as a few of her other injuries, and grew worried.

"Rifana, Keel, you're both alright!" Raphtalia cried out in relief as ran towards them. She and Rifana embraced each other, with the latter being careful of the former's arm, "I was so worried about the both of you!"

"We were also worried about you as well," Rifana replied before the two broke the hug. The weasel girl then grew a worried expression, "But you're hurt."

"Yeah, are you alright?" Keel asked, also sporting a concerned look for his friend.

"I'm alright," Raphtalia reassured before gesturing to the other person that was with her who was now walking towards them. Both Rifana and Keel noticed that the strange thing the stranger rode on was nowhere to be seen, causing the both of them to wonder where it went, "It's thanks to Mr. Rex here that I'm still alive."

"Just call me Rex," he said with a slight grimace, "it makes me sound old."

At this moment the one black-clad individual walked up to Raphtalia.

"Alright let's get you fixed up," he said as he kneeled down in front of the girl and cracked his knuckles before he aimed both of his open palms towards her.

"A little bit of Ninja art of Healing-" suddenly streams of red energy shot forth from each of his palms and struck Raphtalia. Instead of any kind of pain, however, Raphtalia's body felt warm and a gentle soothing sensation, and all the pain she felt before faded away. It was only a few seconds more until the new individual ceased the streams of energy, "and you should be good as new."

Raphtalia looked down at herself, the pain she felt was all gone, even her arm didn't even ache anymore. She reaches up to unravel her makeshift cast before stopping herself. She looked back toward the one who saved her, and he gave a reassuring nod.

With that, Raphtalia unraveled her cast. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw the condition of her arm. Before it was bent in a way that was unnatural, now it was as good as new. She moved it around, and unlike before, it didn't cause her to feel any pain.

She looked up at the black-clothed man in awe and gave him a grateful smile.

"Thank you, mister," she said with a small bow.

"It's no problem kid," he said as he placed one of his hands on the girl's head and gave her a head pa, "and you can just call me the ninja."

"Ninja?" Keel asked as he tilted his head to the side in confusion.

"Yep," he said with pride in his voice, before standing up and placing his fist on his hips, "I'm the Ninja of Norrisville!"

The three demi-human children looked up toward the self-proclaimed ninja in both curiosity and a bit of wonder. None of them knew what a ninja or Noirrisville was, but even then it didn't change the fact that this man had saved both Keel and Rifanna's lives as well-healed Raphtalia. As far as they knew, the man before him was nothing short of amazing.

After he introduced himself, the ninja then walked toward the black-haired man.

"That's a lot of snasties out there," he said in a serious tone as he stood next to the other man, his voice low enough that Raphtalia, Rifanna, and Keel wouldn't be able to hear. That would be the case if the three of them were humans, however, thanks to their demi-human ears they were able to hear what he said.

"Yeah, no kidding," Rex said in agreement, his voice just as quiet as the ninja's, as the both of them watched the horde of monsters, "but that's what we should expect when it comes to Fuse's uglies, where there's one there's likely a dozen more."

"But doesn't it seem kind of strange how he's doing it," the ninja said as he scratched his head, "Last I recalled, Fuse didn't use portals to deliver his infection pods."

The dark-haired man nodded in agreement as he looked up toward the sky as more meteors fell from the hole in the sky.

"Yeah, your right. Even if he did decide to start using portals on planets he wants to devour, he would more than likely use them to send in scouting forces. Planet Fuse still needs to be relatively nearby this planet if he's planning on invading it," he said as he frowned, "and this definitely looks like an invasion, so where the heck is his planet? Even if it's right on the other side of that portal it's way too small for this planet to fit through much less Fuse himself."

"That's an understatement."

Raphtalia, Keel, and Rifanna couldn't help but exchange worried and confused glances towards each other. Fuse, Planet Fuse? The three didn't really understand everything the two adults said, but from what they understood, it seems these individuals were familiar enough with the monsters to know where they came from, and who sent them.

What disturbed the three demi-human children the most however was that this Fuse individual was able to devour worlds. What kind of creature was able to do something like that? Is he some kind of powerful demon? The implications that the newcomers said in regard to Fuse being much larger than their world only made their fear of Fuse worse.

They were pulled out of their thoughts when Rex continued talking.

"In any case, we gotta get these kids somewhere safe," he said before once again bringing up two fingers to his ear, "Tsubasa, this is Rex. How are things going on your end?"

Both Rex and the Ninja were silent for a moment before the former resumed talking.

"More of fuse's monsters heading toward the village, so far we haven't found any new form we're not familiar with. We found some infection pods, but they still regenerate even after we smash them. We also found three kids in the woods not that far from the village, I'm going to take them back with me to the village and then help you and the others."

With that, he brought his arm down and looked toward his companion.

"Think you can slow them down enough so we can evacuate the villagers."

The Ninja gave Rex a nod. Looking past the pair, the three demi-human children saw that the monsters were all heading in the direction of Lurolona village. Once again fear and worry overtook them at the thought of their home village being completely overrun.

"Yeah, but I'm going to need to use some earth magic if I want to be able to do that."

"Do what you can do to buy us as much time as possible," he said before the strange contraption Keel and Rifanna saw him and Raphtalia rode on grew from his legs. Both Keel and Rifanna's jaws dropped so much Raphtalia thought they would have hit the ground. Not that she could blame them, she herself was still not used to how the man could magically create the large metal contraptions as he did.

Another surprise is that the contraption seemed to be floating above the ground, something she didn't notice when she was riding on it. How it was able to do that, she didn't know.

"Alright you kids hop on," Rex called out, pulling the three from their stupor, "you three will be safer in the village than out here."

The three demi-human children looked at each other, before looking toward the black hair man on the strange contraption, then back at the large horde of monsters.

The decision was pretty much unanimous

"First Holy!"

Barret shouted as he cast a ball of sparkling, magical light toward one of the green wasp-like monsters before him. The ball struck true and blasted a good chunk of its head off. The monster fell lifeless to the ground, its body melting into green goo along the way down.

He watched as the monster's corpse was reduced to a green puddle before looking up. Before him were numerous monsters, some just like the wasp he just killed, others were monstrous trees that gained the ability to walk, along with a few rock golems, and the most abundant being small green blob-like creatures that reminded Barret of balloon monsters.

The blob monsters were also just as weak, if not weaker, than the balloon monsters. Even someone who was only level 1 only needed to punch the monster one or two times to kill them. The issue however was their seer numbers, there was no end to them. For every one killed, another five seem to take their place.

He even saw a bunch of them fuse together to form a larger variant that was just as strong as the other larger monsters. And even though he and a few of his fellow villagers managed to destroy a few of the monsters, it didn't seem to put much of a dent in their numbers, if at all (and that's if you don't take the small blob-like monsters into account).

Fortunately, most of them weren't interested in him or the other villagers and instead were focusing on what was, by all means, a real threat to them.

BOOM!

The air was filled with what sounded like thunder accompanied by loud explosions as many of the wave monsters were either blown up or ripped to shreds by the seemingly endless barrages of projectiles produced by the weapons of the one the beasts were attempting to swarm.

She was a young woman, about as old as Sadeena, though she was a bit on the short side. She had fair skin, generous assets, purple eyes, and long lavender hair that fell to her knees, separated into twin-tails that further split into three curly strands each, and an ahoge. She lacked any traits that would indicate she was a demi-human, so he figured that she was a human.

Her choice of attire was strange, however. She wore what looked like a form-fitting leotard with a colors scheme of red, white, black, and pink, white stocking that reached up to her mid-thighs, red boots, white gloves covered by red metal bracers, a red helmet, and around her hip was a strange metal contraption with a color scheme red, white, and pink.

What was just as surprising was that she wielded a pair of large armaments. Each one had a pair of three barrels that were grouped together, which would rotate at incredible speed as it fired countless projectiles into the endless horde of monsters.

It made Barret think of the weapons produced in Faubley. He wouldn't be so surprised if they were made in that country.

Every so often the contraption around her waist would open up and release a large number of projectiles flying toward the monsters. Upon contact with the beasts, or ground, the projectiles would explode, reducing the monsters into pieces.

One would think she wouldn't be able to lift such heavy armaments, much less move or use them efficiently, especially with her petite build. However, she didn't seem to be hindered in the slightest bit. She effortlessly avoided any attacks from any monster that got close enough to her or had ranged attacks.

The fact that she was hardly affected by the recoil of her weapons was also a testament to the strength that her petite build concealed. This is especially the case when she was not only able to leap high up into the air with ease but was able to kick one of the monsters away.

He didn't know why she was here helping them, especially considering most humans in Melromarc didn't care all that much about Demi-humans, but he was grateful for her presence. If it wasn't for her, he had no doubts the village would have been completely overrun and its inhabitant slaughtered. Though he did wonder why she was singing.

Barret then noticed something that was quickly making its way toward the village, he couldn't tell what it was other than it was overall orange and grey, was quite fast, and didn't seem to be touching the ground. There seemed to be people riding on it, but he couldn't make out many details due to how fast it moved.

Some of the monsters noticed the new arrival and tried to attack them, only to miss, get run over, or be torn to shreds by the young woman's barrage of projectiles.

The object sped over toward them the young woman didn't seem the least bit concerned about this as she continued ripping and tearing the wave monsters and reducing them to puddles of goo. In fact, Barret noticed that she would focus a bit of her firepower on the monsters that would attempt to block the speeding object's path.

The speeding object then came to a stop not far from the young woman. Now that it wasn't moving so fast he was able to see that a young man, along with three demi-human children were riding on top of it. One, in particular, immediately caught his attention.

"Raphtalia!" he cried out in relief as he ran toward his daughter. He saw the strange contraption that the four rode on melt into the young man's legs after the children got off of it, but he paid it no mind as he kept running toward Raphtalia. Once he reached her, he immediately pulled her into his embrace.

Ever since these monsters began to appear, he couldn't help but be consumed with worry for his daughter Raphtalia. He remembers seeing his daughter run off into the fields with the other children and hasn't seen her since then. He wanted to go out into the field to find her, however, he was unable to do so due to the numerous monsters. Until now he feared the worst.

"Raphtalia, I was so worried about you!" Barret said before pulling away from him and looking the young girl up and down, checking for any injuries. He relaxed a bit when he didn't see any, but he still couldn't help but ask, "Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"

"I'm alright father," Raphtalia reassured him, before pointing toward the black-haired young man, "It's thanks to Mr. Rex here that Riffanna, Keel, and I are alright."

"It's just Rex," the young man corrected.

Barret stood up and approached the young man.

"Thank you for bringing my daughter back," the demi-human said, gratitude clear in his voice, "When the monsters began to appear I feared the worst for her."

Rex opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by the young woman.

"Hate to interrupt your moment, but you need to get to a safer place," she said before launching another barrage of explosives toward the horde of monsters, "These creeps aren't going to stop just because."

"She's right, you and the rest of the villagers here need to get to safety," Rex said in agreement, "Is there anywhere you and the villagers can go to evacuate?"

Barret pondered for a moment before speaking, "We don't have anything we can use as shelter, the only thing we can use are the boats to escape."

Rex gave a nod, "All right, you and the other villagers get on those boats and get to safety, me and my friends will hold the monsters off while you do that."

To say Barret was taken aback by this was an understatement. These strangers, humans no less, were going to risk their lives to hold off all these monsters while he and other demi-humans could escape.

"Why would you do this for us," he found himself asking, disbelieve evident in his voice.

"Because it's the right thing to do," Rex said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "There's no way we could just sit by and let you guys get slaughtered."

"Yeah, now hurry up already!" the young woman shouted out as she dodged an attack from one of the spider wolf hybrids. After seeing this, a large metallic navy-color contraption grew from Rex's back while a long metallic black tentacle-like whip grew from his arm.

Barret's eyes widened in shock as the young man swung the appendage toward the offending monster and wrapped it around the beast in a vice-like grip. Electricity traveled along the metallic tentacle and the monsters let out a pained wail before Rex smashed it against nearby monsters.

"Better do what chica arma says," Rex said as the contraption melted back into his body and was replaced with a large cannon that was way too big to be held properly. Yet, just like the young woman's weapons, he was able to wield it with ease. He aimed the cannon upward toward the sky before the back end of the cannon opened up and extended down into the ground and grabbed a good amount of the earth into its maw before retreating back to the cannon.

Rex aimed the cannon toward the horde and fired off a number of projectiles. Each one struck one of the monsters and sent them flying back.

'Oh, so that's how that worked,' Raphtalia thought with a tilt of her head.

"But what about you?" Barret asked with concern.

"Don't worry about us," Rex reassured as the cannon melted back into his hand and was replaced with a pair of giant metal fists, "We faced way worse than this."

At that, the young man charged toward the horde of monsters. Barret watched as the young man swung his arms at one of the rock golems, delivering a devastating haymaker into its face and sending it crashing into a group of monsters.

They tried to get back up but were engulfed within an explosion before they could untangle themselves courtesy of the young woman.

Barret watched as the pair of humans cut down many of the monsters with relative ease, each slain beast melting down into mere green puddles.

He was honestly reluctant to leave them behind, but in the end, he relented.

"Raphtalia, you and your friends follow me," he said as he grabbed her hand, and led her and her friends back toward the village, "We need to find your mother and get everyone to the boats."

He looked toward a few of his fellow villagers, "spread the word, we need to get to the boats and evacuate the village."

They nodded and ran back toward the village.

Barret and the children eventually met up with Raphtalia's mother, Serhivra. The woman was helping the others evacuate when she saw them. Upon seeing Raphtalia, she immediately scooped the young girl up in a hug in relief.

It wasn't long till the entire village was calmly making their way to the boats. Everyone was disturbed when they saw numerous humanoid fish-like monsters spread across the coast. However, their worries were slightly alleviated thanks to two individuals (both of whom looked to be human) that were able to keep the horde away from both them and the boat.

One was a young woman who looked to be in her late teens to early twenties, she had short brownish blond hair that barely reached her chin with two red clips on either side of her head, had fair skin, and orange eyes. She wore an outfit that was similar to that of the other young woman, the difference was that her armor was colored yellow, orange, white, and black, and her bracers were significantly bulkier. She did not have any contraption around her waist nor any legging and had instead had yellow and white metallic boots, as well as a long white scarf wrapped around her neck. Her headgear didn't seem to offer as much protection to her cranium, and mainly encased her ears, and had horns pointing backward. And instead of utilizing long-range weaponry like the silver-haired woman, she instead used her bare hands to pulverize the monsters before her. Though, like the other one, she also appeared to be singing as well.

The other individual was a young man who seemed to be a few years older than the orange-eyed woman. He had fair skin, short stark white hair that was cut into a faux-hawk style, and bright blue eyes. He wore a dark blue hooded jacket, a tattered dark crimson shirt, and black pants with black boots. His choice of weaponry was a large massive curved sword as well a double-barreled pistol, both of which he used to slaughter the monsters with brutalizing efficiency.

What was surprising was that his sword would spew forth flames, which was accompanied by it roaring, whenever it was swung. Dealing even more brutalizing damage to any unfortunate creature that was on the receiving end of an attack. Another surprise was that every now and again, blue transparent claws with wings would appear on his shoulders and grab any nearby monster. The caught beast would be either slammed down on the ground or into another monster, repeatedly, used as an improv shield whenever a monster tried to attack him. Unlike the young woman, he was not singing.

The both of them were destroying monsters left and right with relative ease. Neither one letting any of the beasts be able to get any closer to them or the boats. Many of the villagers even considered that the young man might have been the cardinal sword hero, due to how many monsters were quickly being felled by his sword.

Regardless, however, it was thanks to them that the villagers were able to arrive at the boats unimpeded. So far everything was going well as villagers began to board the boats.

Suddenly a few of the villagers felt something stick to their bodies. Looking down they noticed what looked like small green glowing spheres were stuck to their bodies. Their initial reactions were confusion. That didn't even last for a few seconds before the spheres glowed even brighter before engulfing them and a few of the surrounding villagers in an explosion of green light, killing them instantly.

The unlucky nearby villagers that were not killed immediately were not only sent flying, but also covered in green goo that let out a loud sizzling sound. They let out pained screams as their flesh melted away under the green goo.

The surviving villagers all screamed in horror at what happened. They didn't get the chance to ponder anymore when another villager was cut in half at the waist by a floating green transparent doubled edge blade. Before anyone could process what happened, the villager next to the recently bisected individual was decapitated by the same blade. The blade momentarily vanished before another nearby villager was sliced in half. And then another, and another, and another. The process repeated all the while no one was able to see the creature that was holding the blade.

The pair on the beach noticed this and tried to make their way toward the villagers and the invisible murderer. The keyword being try.

The surrounding monsters took advantage of the pair's momentary distraction and immediately swarmed them. They swiped their claws, nicking either of the pair if they weren't able to dodge or block the offending blow. They even manage to bury the young man underneath a dog pile.

"Nero!" the young girl cried out in concern.

The pile of monsters began to slowly light off the ground as a loud roar was heard within the pile. The pile of monsters was suddenly launched into the air and sent scattering across the field, courtesy of the young man.

"I'm alright Hibiki," Nero reassured, before glaring toward the monsters and the green blade, "Shit, there are too many of these bastards. We can't fight them off and deal with the asshole up there at the same time!"

He put two fingers of his free hand up to his ear as he dodged another swipe of a monster's claw. Said monsters got its face sliced off for its trouble.

"Hey Tsubasa, Ninja," Nero called out to seemingly no one in particular, "We got an issue here at the docks, we need more help and fast."

With that, they were both forced to return their attention back toward the fish-like monsters, and it didn't look like there was an end to them.

Barret's eye darted around back and forth and he saw his fellow villagers scattering away in panic. He couldn't help but let out a grimace every time he saw a demi-human cut-down or stabbed by the floating blade before it disappeared. He clenched his hand into a fist out of both anger and fear.

Anger at the feeling of being powerless to stop the slaughter before him, and fear for both his wife and daughter.

"Serhivra, we have to ru-GAH!" Barret turned to face both his wife and daughter when he suddenly felt a sharp pain pierce through his torso.

Both Serhivra and Raphtalia's eyes widen in horror as a pair of green transparent blades pierced out of Barret's chest

"Papa!"

"Barret!"

They cried out as Barret was raised high off his feet and over their heads, his body hanging on the blade. Underneath Barret, the air began to ripple.

Serhivra grabbed Raphtalia and moved backward as a tall figure slowly appeared where the air rippled. It wore a greenish-ebony ornate suit of armor befitting a great warrior, the helmet it wore resembles that of a curved hawk-like "beak" that covered the face. In Raphtalia's opinion, it looked both beautiful but at the same time menacing and tainted. They were over seven feet tall, had a lean yet muscular form that gave it a powerful appearance despite appearing to be hunched forward, stood on two digitigrade legs, and instead of a lower jaw, it had four mandibles arranged in two tiers. Each hand had two fingers in the middle and an opposing thumb on either side, one of its hands was grasping onto the hilt that stabbed Raphtalia's father.

What was most disturbing was instead of having flesh and bone like most natural creatures, what stood before them appeared to be made up of the same green goo the balloon-like monsters were made up of. And just like all the other monsters that appeared today, it had red glowing eyes that held nothing but complete and utter hatred.

Serhivra hugged Raphtalia tightly, as they stared fearfully at the monster before them. Its red eyes glared hatefully at the mother and daughter, before tossing Barret towards them as if he was garbage.

He bounced off the ground once before rolling to a stop at the feet of his wife and daughter. He lay still on the ground with his backs toward them. The sounds of his haggard breathing and coughing were the only indication he was still alive.

"Father!" Raphtalia cried out as she broke out of her mother's grasp and ran toward her father, much to her mother's protest.

"Father please, pl-please don't d-die!" Raphtalia begged as she knelt down and grasped her father's shirt, tears flowing down her face.

"Ra-Raphtalia...Y-you h-have to...run away," Barret said between coughs, as blood from his chest poled around his body, "P-please Run."

The young girl could only cry more. She didn't want to run away, she didn't want to lose her father. She held on to him even as her mother tried to pry her off of him.

A shadow then covered her and her parents. The young raccoon girl looked up in fear as the monster that stabbed her father loomed over her, its blade raised high into the air, ready to come down and end her life. Raphtalia couldn't move a muscle. Her entire form was paralyzed due to sheer fear. Was she about to die? For the second time today, she was about to die.

She felt her mother pull her back before putting herself between Raphtalia and the monsters as it swung its blade down. Time slowed to a crawl as Raphtalia saw the blade descend down toward her and her mother.

Raphtalia closed her eyes tight not wanting to see the inevitable happen. Instead of the sound of flesh being cut, a loud crackling sound reverberated in the air. Slowly, the young raccoon girl opened her eyes and was once again surprised by what she saw.

Standing between her family and the monster stood a tall young woman who had fair skin, and long blue hair that reached down to the middle of her back with a side ponytail on the left side of her head that is longer than the rest of her hair and reached down to her waist. She wore a similar outfit similar to the other two women, however, hers had the color black, white, and blue., and had strange long blades that jutted out from her ankles. Raphtalia wondered how she was able to move with those. The newcomer's back was toward the young girl so she couldn't see her face, but she could see what weapon she was using.

In the woman's hand was a long beautiful single-edge sword, and it was currently blocking the monster's own blade.

Both the young woman and the monster pushed their blades against each other and Raphtalia stared in awe as the young woman didn't get pushed back in the slightest. Somehow the young woman's strength was able to equally match against a monster that looked to be physically stronger. No, by what Raphtalia could see she was actually overpowering the monster as she pushed its blade back.

"I'm surprised," the young woman spoke up, her voice like steel, "Most of the time you Fusions lurk within your lairs as you command the lesser monsters."

When she finished her sentence she applied more strength and forced the monster to jump backward. The monster skidded on its feet for a bit before coming to a stop quite a distance away.

"Then again, from what I heard, the one whom you were cloned from preferred to lead his troops from the front lines," she said as she gripped her sword in both hands and stood in a combatant stance, "Am I correct?"

The monster glared at the human and let out a low menacing growl.

"You are correct...Human," it said with a low rumble and a slight echo, spatting out the word human as it were venom. It then got into its own stance, "But don't mistake yourself into believing you know everything."

AN:

Me: Okay, wow, soooooo this story now has a page on TvTrope. Words could not begin to describe how surprised and happy I was when I saw my story on TvTrope, especially since it was a crackfic. I mean I never thought that would ever happen! Wow!

Neptune: they did get the name of the village wrong though, and I don't think you ever implied it was Ben, Nanoha, or Fate who saved the village.

Me: eh, small details. Anyway, quiz time, can anyone guess who the new individuals are and where they came from (seriously though I kind of made it really obvious for the guys though)?

And can anyone guess who, or what invaded using the waves? Bonus points for those who can figure out who the guy that attack Raphtalia's father is (or as stated above, who he's a duplicate of)?.

I will reveal the answers to these questions in a later chapter.

I'm also wondering if I should move this fic to the x-over section or if I can leave it here. Eh, let me know what you think in the comments, but I feel content to leave in this section, but if you think I should then I'll probably do so.

See ya later. Stay safe and stay healthy.

P.S. Halo Infinite is awesome and is so fun!
