The sunlight shimmered on the leaves while Beth held the crossbow in her hands and she looked at the ground.

"What do you see?" Daryl asked and she looked at him. He had been teaching her how to track and she admitted she was getting good at it.

"Tracks. Going that way. In a zigzag pattern," Beth said.

"What do you think it is?"

"A Walker. Going that way."

They walked for a short distance when they found the Walker eating something and she smiled. Slowly, she walked closer when she felt something grab her foot and she tumbled onto her bottom. After killing the Walker, Daryl quickly removed the small bear trap from her heel and she moaned.

"Can you move it?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah," she said and he examined her heel as she made a tiny whimper and he frowned.

"Don't think it's broken."

"I would've screamed if it was," Beth teased and he snorted a laugh while he lowered her foot.

"Daryl! Beth! Are you ok?!" Tyreese called out as he ran to them and Tyreese helped her up. Daryl went to retrieve the crossbow bolt as he walked back to them and Beth held onto Tyreese's right arm.

"Let's go," Daryl said while handing the crossbow to Tyreese then he stood in front of Beth. "Get on."

"What? You're going to give me a piggyback ride?"

"Yeah."

Smiling, Beth got onto Daryl's back as he adjusted his hold on her then he started walking.

"What happened?!" Carol asked while she and Mika walked closer and Carol held Judith in her arms.

"I got my foot caught in the trap," Beth said.

"It ain't broken," Daryl said.

"Doesn't matter. We need to find a…," Carol said as she paused and Beth sighed.

"A doctor," Beth said and Carol nodded.

"Let's go," Daryl said. Carol followed him while Tyreese lifted Mika up and they headed down the trail. They walked down the path when Daryl saw the white house and the gravestones in the distance.

"Do we have to go in there?" Mika asked.

"Yeah."

Daryl lowered Beth to the ground when he held onto her and they walked toward the white building. They looked at the gravestones as a sense of sadness moved through them and Tyreese hugged Mika when she started crying.

They came to the house when they saw it was a funeral home and Carol tried to the front door. The door opened as Daryl moved into the doorway and Carol held onto Beth. He held the crossbow in his hands as he carefully walked inside and he scanned the room with his eyes. He checked the rooms when he walked back to the front door and he signaled for them to come in. He stood back so they could go inside and he closed the door behind him.

"This place is creepy," Mika said as she held onto Carol's right side.

"Come on," Daryl said as he walked down the hallway and Tyreese carried Beth. They down the stairs when they walked in the room where the bodies were prepared for a funeral and Carol and Daryl went to check the cabinets.

"Found a first aid kit," Carol said, removing the first aid kit from the cabinet. She walked to Beth when she examined Beth's ankle and Beth slightly winced from the pain. Carol carefully wrapped Beth's ankle with the stretch bandage then Carol went to put the first aid kit in her backpack.

"Let's go," Daryl said. Carol helped Beth up the stairs when they headed down the small hallway and they walked in the kitchen. Tyreese was holding Judith while Daryl and Beth looked through the cabinet and Daryl smiled.

"Peanut butter an' jelly, diet soda an' pig's feet. That's a white trash brunch right there," Daryl said while he removed the jar of jelly, opened the jar, stuck his finger in the jelly, scooped some jelly into his mouth and Beth and Carol softly laughed. "Just so you know. Those pig's feet? They're mine."

"Where do you think the food came from?" Tyreese asked with a small laugh.

"Dunno," Daryl said as he looked around then he frowned. "Where's Mika?"

Mika had gone out into the hallway while she walked down the hallway and she looked into one of the rooms. She saw the pile of backpacks and sleeping bags on the floor as she backed out of the room and she ran down the hallway.

"Daryl, someone's here!" Mika said as she ran down the hallway and she stood in the doorway. Daryl held the crossbow in his hands while he walked to Mika and she looked up at him.

"Where are they?" Daryl asked. Mika led him into the hallway when she pointed and Daryl cautiously walked down the hallway. He checked the rooms when he silently scolded himself for missing the room with the backpacks and sleeping bags inside and he slowly walked around the room. He also found sealed plastic bottles of water and a few books and he walked back out of the room.

"Daryl?" Carol called out and she walked in the hallway.

"Found some backpacks an' sleeping bags. Looks like whoever was here is gone."

"Or they're out on a supply run."

"Yeah."

"What if they come back?"

"We'll explain about Beth not bein' able to walk an' ask if we can stay."

Nodding, Carol followed Daryl back to the kitchen and he saw Beth and Mika were eating some crackers and peanut butter.

"Uh… Sorry. Mika was hungry," Beth said.

"That's ok," Daryl said and Carol opened a jar of baby for Judith.

"Did you find anyone?" Tyreese asked.

"No. They're either gone or out on a run."

"Hope they don't mind us borrowing some stuff," Beth said.

"They might, but we can tell them we're help find more."

"What if…? What if they get mad?" Mika said.

"Let me handle 'em."

"If they don't come back soon, where are we going to sleep?" Beth asked.

"Found some sleeping bags."

Daryl walked to Mika when she held up a cracker with some jelly on it and he took the cracker from her. He placed the cracker in his mouth as he started chewing and he gave Mika a small smile.

Later that night, Carol had spread the sleeping bags on the floor in the room where the coffins sat on display, but there were only enough sleeping bags for her, Tyreese, Beth and Mika.

"Guess I'll be sleepin' in here," Daryl said while he got into the coffin and Beth frowned.

"Are you sure you want to?" Beth asked.

"Best bed I've had in a long time," he teased as he got comfortable and he placed his right hand under his head.

"Here," Carol said as she placed Judith on top of him and he slid his arms around Judith. Judith snuggled against hm as she yawned and Carol watched her closing her eyes. Daryl looked up at Carol as she smiled and she lightly ruffled his hair. Carol walked to the sleeping bag as she got in the sleeping bag and Mika got in the smaller sleeping bag. Tyreese got into the large, blue sleeping bag while Beth limped toward the piano and she light pressed the keys. She sat on the piano stool when she started playing the piano and Daryl lightly rubbed Judith's back. Beth started singing as his mind started drifting into the past and he half-closed his eyes.

The Greene Farm

Daryl looked into the darkness and pain moved along the left side of his head. He still wasn't sure how he had made it back to the farm after falling off the horse, rolling down the cliff, falling into the stream, getting impaled by one of his crossbow bolts, fighting off Walkers, cutting off their ears, placing the ears on a string and tying the string around his neck and climbing back up the cliff.

"Did I really see Merle?" Daryl thought as his mind replayed his conversation with what he thought was Merle and he frowned. He softly sighed when he though he heard someone singing and he turned his head to the door. The door opened while Beth walked in the room, turned the light on and he blinked his eyes a few times.

"Oh, you're awake," Beth said.

"What're you doin' here?" he asked, watching her walk to the bed.

"Dad wants us to take turns checking up on you."

"I'm good."

"Then why aren't you asleep? Do you need me to get him?"

"No. Just can't sleep."

"Oh."

Beth went to touch Daryl's left wrist when he pulled his left arm away and she frowned.

"Don't touch me," he grumbled.

"I need to check your pulse," Beth explained.

He saw the hurt look on her face as he sighed then he raised his left arm. She gently placed her figures against his wrist as he looked at Hershel's pocket watch and he barely tilted his head to one side. She placed his arm down as she picked the pencil sitting next to the piece of paper on the night table and she wrote the information on the piece of paper.

"I… I need to check your stitches," Beth said and he swore she was blushing.

"Go ahead," he said. She moved the bedding back and he noticed her eyes scanning his body. She carefully moved the tape back then she moved the bandage up and she looked at the stitches. She placed the bandage back while she lightly pressed the tape against his skin then she crossed her arms under her breasts.

"I need to check the stitches on your back."

"No."

"But…"

"I said no," he said and he felt ashamed for growling at her.

"Is it alright for me to touch your head?"

"Yeah."

She changed the dressing on his head and he saw the sadness in her eyes while she placed his head against the pillow.

"Is it that bad?" he asked.

"No," she said with a shake of her head.

"Then why do you look like you wanna cry?"

"I guess I miss my mom."

"Ain't Patricia yer mom?"

"No. She's Dad's assistant. Mom… She and my half-brother got sick."

"Oh."

"Mom… She was everything to him. And to us. She was always willing to help people. I remember her running around like crazy during church suppers."

"She sounds…nice."

"She was. Dad says I have her singing voice."

"That was you singin'?"

"Yeah," she said with a nod. Daryl started to feel sleepy as he yawned and she carefully sat on the edge of the bed. "Do you want me to sing something?"

"If you want."

He closed his eyes when she started singing and he felt his body relaxing. He slowly drifted off to sleep and his mind drifted into the darkness.

"Carol," Beth whispered when Carol looked at her and Beth pointed to the coffin. Carol slid out of the sleeping bag when she quietly walked to the coffin and she looked at Daryl and Judith. Both of them were sleeping as she smiled at Judith holding onto Daryl's right index finger and Beth limped to stand next to her.

Hushing her, Carol helped Beth to the sleeping bags and they slid into the sleeping bags and Beth whispered goodnight to her. Carol turned onto her left side as she looked at the coffin then she closed her eyes and she drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Daryl stood in the room where they found the backpacks and he folded his arms over his chest. He knew it would be wrong to search through the backpacks. He wondered where the people who left the backpacks were. He also wondered if it would be a good idea to take some of the food, water and other supplies they had found.

"Go on. Take their shit. Whose gonna know," Merle's voice said in his head and Daryl frowned.

"Daryl?" Beth called out as she limped to him and he turned to face her. "What are you doing?"

"Tryin' to figure out what to do with this," he said, pointing at the backpacks.

"I think we should leave them."

"Yeah, but there might be somethin' in there we need."

"They might need it, too."

"Yeah," he said with a sigh. "I'm also thinkin' about the food an' water."

"We can take half and leave a note."

"Yeah."

"You wanna know something? You really are a good person."

"No, I ain't."

"Yeah. You are. Anyone else would just take everything."

"Come on."

Beth followed Daryl as he left the room and they went down the hallway. He found Carol, Tyreese and the girls in the kitchen while Carol fed Judith a jar of baby food and Tyreese had found a box of cereal for Mika.

"We need to get goin'," Daryl said.

"Should we take anything?" Tyreese asked.

"We're gonna take half the food, water an' some of the other stuff."

"And we're going to leave a note," Beth said as she found a pencil and a piece of paper and she started writing the note.

Carol handed Judith to Daryl as she and Tyreese started placing food, plastic bottles of water and some other supplies in some plastic bags they found and Daryl went to get the crossbow. He picked up the crossbow while Judith giggled from being tipped over and he softly laughed.

"Like that, hunh?" he asked as he slid the strap of the crossbow over his right shoulder. He suddenly heard the cans he had tied to string clanking as he walked to the window and he saw the Walkers trying to get into the house. "Shit."

He knew he shouldn't swear in front of Judith as he left the room and he headed for the kitchen.

"Walkers!"

"Yeah, we saw them," Carol said and some Walkers started pounding on the back door.

"Go!" Daryl said while Beth took hold of Mika's right hand and they headed out of the kitchen. Tyreese aimed the rifle at the back door when the back door slammed open and the Walkers headed into the room. "Take Judith!"

"But…," Carol said as he handed Judith to her and Judith started whimpering.

"Run!"

Carol quickly left the room while Daryl and Tyreese fought the Walkers and she headed for the front door. She ran faster after she heard Mika calling Beth's name and Carol ran outside. She saw the black car parked outside as two men pulled Beth toward the car and Carol growled.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" Carol called out and the men looked at her.

"Go back inside," the man said as they held onto Beth's arms and she struggled to get away from them.

"Where are you taking her!?"

"That's none of your business."

"We're makin' it our business," Daryl said while he and Tyreese walked outside and he pointed the crossbow at the men. Tyreese pointed the rifle as the men looked at each other and one of the men held his hands up in surrender.

"Look. There's no need for violence. We're police officers. We saw she was having trouble walking and we're going to take her to get some help," the man said.

"What you're gonna do is let her go."

"We could arrest you."

"And we could shoot you. Now, let her go," Carol said, standing next to Daryl.

"We don't have time for this," the other man said while pulling Beth toward the car, but he stopped when a crossbow bolt nearly hit his right foot.

"The next one ain't gonna miss," Daryl said, pointing the crossbow at the man's head.

"Let her go," the other man said and the man let go of Beth. Carol ran to Beth while they watched the men get into the black car then the engine started and the black car sped down the road. Daryl saw the black cross painted on the trunk hood as he lowered the crossbow and he looked at Beth.

"You good?" Daryl asked as he, Tyreese and Mika walked to Beth and Carol.

"Yeah," Beth said as she nodded her head.

"I picked up your stuff," Mika said as she held up Beth's bag and Beth smiled.

"Which way should we go?" Tyreese asked, looking at the road.

"The car went that way, so we should go that way," Carol said, pointing to the right.

"That's the way we came," Daryl said.

"Maybe we should stay here until Beth's ankle heals," Tyreese suggested.

"It ain't safe."

"We killed the Walkers."

"Doesn't matter. Those guys know we're here. They could come back."

"He has a point," Beth said.

Daryl looked back at the house when he went back inside then he came back out with a gurney. He pushed the gurney to Beth as they looked at the gurney and he gave them a blank look.

"Get on," Daryl said, patting the top of the gurney.

"What is this?" Beth asked.

"I think it's what they used to move the bodies," Carol said.

Tyreese helped Beth onto the gurney while Carol handed Judith to her then she helped Mika onto the gurney. Daryl and Tyreese placed the plastic bags on the gurney then they started pushing the gurney toward the road and Carol followed them.

"Uh, what if they're waiting for us?" Beth asked while she looked down the road.

"We'll handle it," Daryl said.

"Do you think those guys were really cops?" Tyreese asked.

"They were wearing police uniforms," Carol said.

"Doesn't matter. They could've found them," Daryl said.

"They just got outta the car and grabbed her," Mika said and Beth saw the sadness in her eyes.

"Hey," Beth said and Mike looked at her. "I don't blame you for what happened."

"I still should've done something."

"You did," Carol assured her and Mika nodded.

"Uh…," Tyreese said as he stopped the gurney and he and Daryl walked down the road. They looked down the hill then they looked back at the gurney and Daryl frowned.

"What's wrong?" Carol asked. She walked to Daryl when she looked down the hill and she frowned. "Oh great."

"What's going on?" Beth asked.

"We're at the top of a really steep hill."

"Which means you won't be able to control how fast the gurney will go once we start going downhill."

"We also don't know if they're waiting for us at the bottom," Tyreese said.

"Yeah," Daryl said with a nod. He looked at their surroundings when he saw a small road to his right and he walked to the small road. He saw the road was paved as he walked to the gurney and he pointed to the small road. Tyreese helped him push the gurney as they headed down the small road and Carol followed them.

Later that night, Daryl had found a clearing to make camp as they sat around the small fire circle and they ate some of the food they had brought with them. Daryl kept an eye on their surroundings when he stood and he walked to the tree line.

"Stay here," he said as he held the crossbow in his hands. He cautiously moved along the tree line as he kept the firelight in sight and he scanned the darkness with his eyes. He slowly headed into the forest as he listened to the night and he lightly stepped over a tree root. The moonlight was making it easier to see as he walked along and his eyes darted left and right.

"Daryl!" made him turn around when he started running back to the camp and he heard the sound of Beth and Carol screaming.

"Shit!" he growled, running faster. He heard something running toward him as he stopped and he could just see Mika and Judith heading at him.

"Daryl!" she said as she ran to him and he placed his left hand on her right shoulder.

"What happened?!" Daryl demanded.

"Tyreese went to pee when these people showed up! They knocked him out! Carol gave Judith to me and she told me to run!"

"Shit!"

Mika followed him as Daryl headed back to the camp and he kept her behind him. He could hear Judith whimpering as he placed the strap over his right shoulder, took her of Mika and he held Judith in his arms. He made soft hushing sounds while they cautiously went behind a tree and he looked at the camp. He could just see Tyreese lying on the ground, but he couldn't see Carol or Beth and he frowned.

"Damn," Daryl thought as he moved closer and he saw Tyreese waking up. Tyreese sat up as he rubbed the back of his head and he looked around.

"Son of a bitch," Tyreese said, getting to his feet.

"Tyreese?!" Daryl whispered and Tyreese looked toward the trees. Daryl signaled for him to move to him and Tyreese half-ran to the tree.

"Daryl, I'm sorry. They just came outta nowhere," Tyreese said.

"How many?"

"About seven. Maybe eight."

"Which way did they go?"

"That way," he said as he pointed to the right and Daryl looked at Mika.

"Stay here with Tyreese," he said after he handed Judith to Tyreese and Mika nodded. They watched him head into the darkness as Daryl growled and rage started building in his chest.

A short distance away, Carol strained against the ropes tied around her wrists as she tried to get free and the woman behind her shoved her forward.

"You should have just let us take her," the woman said and Carol rolled her eyes.

Beth was on the gurney as she looked at the sky and she tried hard not to cry.

"Where are you taking us?" Carol asked.

"We're taking you to get help," the woman said.

"It's just a sprain. She'll be fine in a few days."

"Are you a doctor?"

"No."

"Then shut up and keep walking."

They kept walking then stopped when they heard the growling and gurgling sound and Carol could just see the Walkers heading toward them.

"Move!" one of the men said as the Walkers attacked and Carol turned to the woman.

"Set me free and give me a gun!" Carol demanded.

"Are you kidding me?!" the woman asked.

"Either do that or we're both going to die!"

Nodding, the woman freed Carol then she handed Carol a gun and they fired the guns at the Walkers.

After the men helped her off the gurney, Beth hopped over to the trees as she ducked behind a tree and she peeked out to see her captors and Carol fighting the Walkers.

"Beth?" made her turn when she could just see Daryl behind her and he moved closer. "You good?"

"Yeah," Beth said. He used the knife to free her wrists then he handed her the knife, moved out from behind the tree and he started firing the crossbow at the Walkers. He got closer to Carol as she barely smiled and she fired the gun.

"What took you so long?" Carol teased and he snorted a laugh.

Beth watched the Walkers kill her captors as Carol and Daryl ran toward her and Daryl slid the strap of the crossbow over his right shoulder. He quickly picked Beth up as they headed into the darkness and she sent a silent prayer for her captors' souls.

After returning to camp, Daryl kicked dirt on the fire until the flames went out and they headed into the darkness. Carol carried Judith, Tyreese carried Beth and Daryl carried Mika, but Carol saw the anger and frustration on Daryl's face.

"It wasn't your fault," Carol whispered to Daryl, but he only shook his head.

"Yeah, it was," he whispered back and she lightly nudged his right shoulder.
