"What is this place?!" Rick demanded as he walked toward Mary, but he stopped after the guards pointed the rifles at him.

"This is a memorial room," Mary said.

"What happened to them? Was it a plague?"

"No," Mary said, walking toward Rick and she locked eyes with him. "This place started as a sanctuary after everything fell apart. We set up signs and sent out radio signals. Soon, people started showing up and we welcomed them with open arms. After a while, we became lax when it came to who we allowed in. One day, we were invaded by robbers. We were captured and the men were tortured. The women… What they went through was far worse."

"Were you one of the women?" Michonne asked and Mary nodded.

"We finally freed ourselves from out captures, but things changed. We no longer trusted the outside world and we changed how we accepted strangers," Gareth said.

""You're the butcher or you're the cattle". "Never Again, Never Trust. We First, Always."" Rick repeated and Gareth and Mary nodded.

"This is a sanctuary to remind us of those we lost," Mary explained.

"And those who refused to join us," Gareth said.

"Wait. You killed the people who wanted to leave?" Daryl asked.

"Yes."

"That's sick," Carl said.

"It is the way of the world. Kill or be killed. Eat or be eaten."

"So…," Mary said as she squared back her shoulders. "Will you finally tell us why you're here?"

"I told you. We were looking for a place to stay," Rick said.

"Then you didn't send those other people here as scouts?"

"What other people?"

"Eight people arrived just before you showed up. They were hot, hungry and tired. We took them in, asked them some questions, offered them food, but they didn't want to join us."

"What did you do to them?" Michonne asked, regretting she had left her katana behind.

"Nothing. Not yet."

"What are their names?" Rick asked.

"Their names were Abraham, Eugene, Tara, Rosita, Maggie, Bob, Sasha and Glenn."

Mary noticed the recognition on Rick's face as she glared at him and Rick shook his head.

"Not sure who the others are, but Maggie, Bob, Sasha and Glenn? They are friends of ours. We thought they had died when our base was attacked."

"Then you did send them."

"No! No! No! I just said we thought they were dead!"

Mary looked at Gareth as they had a silent conversation then she looked at Rick and Rick felt a cold chill moving through him.

"Drop your weapons," Gareth said and they dropped their weapons on the ground.

"Take them to the holding cars," Mary said, turning and she left the room. Rick knew fighting Gareth and the guards would only result in them getting killed and he saw the look in Michonne and Daryl's eyes. Rick barely shook his head as he held his hands up in surrender and Gareth smiled.

"Move," Gareth said. Nodding, Rick headed for the door as Michonne, Daryl and Carl followed him and Gareth looked at the guards. The guards picked up the weapons then left the room while Gareth looked at the room, headed for the door then closed the door after he walked outside.

Rick looked at the railroad cars as they watched Gareth run to one of the railroad cars and he opened the door. Daryl, Michonne and Carl looked at Rick while Rick walked to Gareth and Gareth pointed for them to get in the railroad car.

Sighing, Rick entered the railroad car as he looked into the darkness and Michonne, Daryl and Carl followed him. Gareth slammed the door closed as Rick heard the lock click into place then he looked at Michonne, Daryl and Carl.

The strong smell in the air made Rick cough as his eyes adjusted to the darkness and he could see movement in the shadows.

"Rick?" Glenn asked as he walked closer and Rick smiled.

"Michonne?" Maggie asked, walking to stand next to Glenn.

"Carl?" Sasha asked as she walked to stand next to Maggie.

"Daryl?" Bob asked, walking to stand next to Sasha.

"Hey," Rick said with a nod.

"Friends of yours?" Abe asked as he, Rosita, Tara and Eugene walked closer and Rick looked at them.

"Who are you?"

"Sargent Abraham Ford," Abe said then he turned to the others. This is Rosita Esponosa. That's Eugene Porter. And this is…"

"Nobody important," Tara said and Rick frowned. He wasn't sure, but there was something about her that seemed familiar.

"That's Tara," Glenn said and she glared at him.

"Are you friends of theirs?" Abe asked again.

"Yes," Rick said with a nod.

"Rick, what is going on? Are those people keeping us prisoner?" Bob asked.

"Not exactly."

"Not exactly?!" Abe asked.

"It appears those who don't agree to join the settlement end up… They end up as food,"

"Food?!" Sasha asked with wide eyes.

"They're going to eat us?!" Tara asked.

"Yes," Rick said and Abe snorted a breath of air.

"Bullshit," Abe said as he stormed to the door and he rammed his right shoulder against the door. The railroad car shook as he rammed his shoulder into the door again and he growled.

"Stop!"

"I ain't stoppin' until we get outta here!"

"When we do get out, we're all going to need all our strength to fight them."

Abe understood what he was saying as he sighed then he sat against the door.

Daryl noticed Maggie was looking at him as she walked closer and he glanced down at his feet.

"Uh… Sorry about yer dad," Daryl grumbled.

"Thanks," Maggie said.

"I… I don't get why you're thankin' me. I was the reason he died."

"What are you talking about? The Governor killed him."

"Yeah, he did. But I had a clear shot. I didn't take it because I wanted to see if Rick could get him to surrender."

"Daryl…"

"No. I should've done it."

Maggie moved closer when she held him and Daryl placed his head against her head. She moved back as they locked eyes and she gave him a small grin.

"Dad told me he thought you were a good man," she said and he lightly shook his head.

"I ain't good."

"Yeah, you are."

He sighed when he cleared his throat then he locked eyes with her.

"Beth's alive," Daryl said and her mouth dropped open.

"She is?! Where is she?!"

"Maggie?" Glenn asked as he walked closer and he looked at Daryl.

"Daryl told me Beth's alive!"

"She is?!"

"Yeah," Daryl said with a nod. "She was lookn' for the kids when she found me."

"Where is she?!" Maggie asked.

"She's safe. I was lookin; for this place when I ran into Rick, Michonne and Carl."

"Why didn't she come with you?"

"I thought it would be better if I came here on my own. Check the place out. Then I'd go get her."

"Makes sense," Glenn said with a nod.

"Yeah," Maggie said, but she felt like Daryl was holding something back. Daryl sighed when they heard "We're the same" and he tried to figure out where the voice was coming from.

"Did you hear that?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah. It's coming from next door," Glenn said.

"We're the same" repeated over and over then stopped and Daryl walked over to Rick.

"Did you hear that?" Rick asked and Daryl nodded.

"Any idea on how we get outta here?" Daryl asked.

"Not yet."

"Where did those three come from?"

"Sasha told me Glenn met them while he was looking for Maggie. He said they were going to Washington DC when their group got attacked by Walkers."

"Why are they goin' there?"

"That guy…," Rick said as he looked at Eugene. "He's supposed to be a scientist. They need to get him to DC so he can help find a cure to all this."

"Can we trust 'em?"

"Don't think so."

"What about her?" Daryl asked while looking at Tara.

"Glenn said he found her after he got out of the prison."

"Do you think she might have been with the Governor?"

"Don't know."

"Do you trust her?"

"For now."

"Got any idea how we're gonna get outta here?"

"Not yet," Rick said with a sigh and Daryl walked to one side of the railroad car. Daryl sat down against the wall as he placed his wrists on his knees and he leaned his head back. The sour smell in the air made him cough while his mind started drifting and he closed his eyes.

The prison

"Hey," Daryl said as he stood in the doorway to the cell and he looked at Carol. He still couldn't believe she was alive. Everyone else thought she had died along with T-Dog after the Walkers had attacked and he thought his heart had stopped when they dug a grave for her.

"Hey," Carol said in a tired voice.

"Uh… Here."

He walked to the bunk as he knelt down on his haunches and he handed the knife and scarf to her.

"Thanks," Carol said, taking the knife and the scarf. "You know what? If it wasn't for this scarf, I would have been killed."

"Did a Walker grab onto it?"

"Yeah. But seeing how I got used to pulling away after Ed…"

He knew she didn't like talking about her husband and there was a part of him which was glad Ed was killed by a Walker.

"Yeah," Daryl said with a nod and she softly smiled.

"I didn't tell you thanks for saving my life, did I?"

"We're good."

"No, I really am grateful."

"Yeah," Daryl said with a nod. He did notice how frustrated she was as he moved closer and he placed his right hand on top of her left hand. Their eyes locked and he said more with a look then he could with words and she wrapped their fingers together.

"Wanna know the worst part?" Carol asked with a tiny grin.

"Sure."

"It was the smell. Not sure when they last cleaned those cells, but it smelt worse than you."

He gave her an angry look then he did something he rarely did. He laughed.

"This place smells worse," Dayl grumbled as he sighed and he started to wonder what Carol was doing.

The cabin

"Where are you going?" Tyreese asked while Carol headed for the door and she had the strap of the tote bag with the rocket launcher over her right shoulder.

"I am going to go find Daryl," Carol said.

"We should go with you," Beth said.

"No. I need you two to stay here and guard Mika and Judith."

"Carol….," Tyreese said as he walked closer and she saw the concern in his eyes. "You don't have to do this all on your own."

"I know that," Carol snapped then she lowered her head. "Sorry."

"No, it's ok," Beth said. "We're all worried about Daryl."

"Which is why I think it would be better if you all stay here. If something happens to us, you need to get out of here."

"Fine," Tyreese said with a sigh. They watched her open the door as she walked outside and Carol walked down the path. She turned to see Beth and Tyreese standing in the doorway and she gave them a little wave. She headed down the path when she walked to the railroad tracks and she adjusted the strap. She started walking as she hoped she was heading in the right direction and she frowned.

Terminus

Carol wasn't sure how long she was walking when she heard something and she saw a horde of Walkers heading down the railroad track. She looked around when she headed for the woods and she made sure she kept downwind. Hearing the sound of gunfire, she watched the Walkers heading down the railroad tracks then she ducked behind a tree after one of the Walkers turned to look behind it.

She followed the Walkers when she noticed something and she walked to the abandoned tent. She carefully opened the flap when she found a rain poncho and she rolled the rain poncho up then she left the tent. She walked by the trees as she kept downwind and she saw a Walker. She slowly moved closer as she placed the rain poncho and the tote bag on the ground, removed the knife from the holder on her belt and she quietly moved closer. She swiftly killed the Walker as she looked to see if there were any more then she went to get the rain poncho, placed the rain poncho on and she walked back to the Walker. She cut open the Walker when she spread blood and guts over the rain poncho, over her hands and face and she streaks some of the blood and guts through her hair.

"I am really going to need a shower," she whispered as she smiled, stood then she went to get the tote bag. She picked up the tote bag as she slid the strap over her right shoulder and she covered the tote bag with the rain poncho. She started walking while her mind started drifting and she sighed.

The CDC

"Hey," Daryl said as he leaned against the wall and Carol looked at him. They just had some blood taken and Daryl noticed Carol was looking a little pale. "You good?"

"I'm ok."

"Heard you sayin' you were… Uh…."

"I'm claustrophobic."

"Yeah. What does that mean?"

She noticed the concern in his eyes as she started explaining and he nodded his head from time to time.

"You sure you're good?" Daryl asked and she nodded. "Then let's go eat."

She walked next to him as they headed for the table and she was surprised when he moved the chair out. He made sure no one was watching as he moved the chair back after she sat down and she had given him a small smile.

"Thank you," Carol softly said. She swore he was blushing as he walked away and she enjoyed watching him smiling and having a good time.

"He hardly smiles anymore," Carol softly said with a sigh and she ducked when a Walker turned, but he didn't see her.

The CDC

After they had eaten, she noticed he was following them and he didn't look happy about having to take a shower.

"Mom, do you think there's hot water?" Sophia asked and Carol looked at her.

"I think so," Carol said then she heard a soft snort coming from behind them.

"I ain' takin' one," Daryl said as he leaned against the wall.

"You're not going to shower?"

"Don't need one."

"When was the last time you had a shower?"

He had given her an angry look then he looked away and he snorted a breath of air.

"Don't remember."

"Then you need one."

"Look, Lady…."

"Move!"

She noticed the slightly frightened look on his face from her tone of voice and she felt a strong sense of guilt moving through her.

"Never did ask him how he got those scars on his back," Carol whispered, adjusting the strap on her shoulder. She had seen the scars that night she had brought him dinner after he was shot by Andrea and he had quickly covered his back with the blankets. Sighing, she shook her head and her mind went back to what happened at the CDC.

The CDC

Daryl stood in front of the door to his assigned room as she looked at him then she lightly tapped his back. Quickly turning around to face her, he glared at her and she pointed to the door. He crossed his arms over his chest while he thought about it then he nodded, opened the door and he walked in the room. He slammed the door in her face, but she knew he wasn't really angry at her and she barely smiled.

"Do you think he'll do it?" Sophia asked and she looked at her daughter.

"Don't know."

She walked to the door, but she didn't hear any water running and she rolled her eyes.

"I don't hear any water running," Carol called out while wrapping her knuckles on the door and she could just picture him looking angerly at the door.

"Do I really gotta do this?!" Daryl called out.

"Yes!"

A few seconds later, she could just hear water running and she wondered if he had just turned the water on.

"Are you really taking a shower?" Carol called out.

"Yeah!" Darylcalled out.

"Use the soap!"

"Fuck off!" came from behind the door and she and Sophia softly giggled.

"He did smell better when he came to eat breakfast," she whispered with a small grin. She kept walking as she hoped Daryl, Carl, Michonne and Rick were alright and she sighed.

Terminus

Rick looked at Tara while Glenn walked to him and Rick glanced at him.

"She was working with the Governor, wasn't she?" Rick asked.

"Yeah," Glenn said.

"Why didn't you kill her?"

"Rick…"

"She helped him destroy our home."

"She was scared."

"Scared?"

"Yeah," Glenn said then he told him about Tara.

"Do you trust her?"

"She's been straight with me so far."

"What about those three?" Rick asked as they looked at Eugene, Rosita and Abe.

Glenn told him how he met Eugene, Rosita and Abe and Rick tilted his head to one side.

"Do you really think that guy's a scientist?" Rick asked, pointing to Eugene.

"Why would they lie about that?"

"To make you feel sorry for them."

"Maybe."

Rick looked at them when the door slid open while Gareth, Mary and some guards walked in the railroad car and the guards pointed their weapons at them. Mary glanced at Rick as Gareth looked to her and she frowned

"Take them to the slaughter house," Mary said as Mary pointed to Rick, Glenn, Daryl and Bob then she walked away

"If any of you move, we'll kill the kid," Gareth said as he looked at Carl and Rick felt the rage building inside him. The guards walked closer while the others looked at Rick and he barely shook his head. Rick, Bob, Glenn and Daryl followed the guards outside as Gareth closed the door and the guards pinned Daryl, Glenn, Bob and Rick to the ground. Their arms were pinned behind their backs as their wrists were bound by zip ties and cloth gags were placed in their mouths. The cloth gags were tied behind their heads as they were hit on the back of their heads and they were dragged toward the large, brick building.

The slaughterhouse

Rick started regaining consciousness as he blinked his eyes clear and he was shocked by the sight of someone cutting into what looked like a human corpse. He scanned the room with his eyes when he was pushed onto his knees near a metal trough and Bob was kneeling to his left and Daryl was kneeling to his right. Glenn was next to Daryl and Rick leaned forward enough to see Sam at the end of the line.

"He tried to talk Alex into freeing you," startled Daryl as a bald man with a baseball bat laughed and he looked at the thin man wearing a butcher's apron and a plastic face mask. "Let's get started."

Rick, Bob, Glenn and Daryl watched the bald man slam the bat into Sam's head then the thin man slit Sam's throat and push him against the metal trough. The other men in the line started whimpering while Rick slid his fingers up the leg of his jeans and he reached for the sharpen piece of wood he had tucked into his boot.

He and the others had made weapons to use when they escaped as he silently prayed the others would get free after they were dead and he noticed Daryl glancing at him. He saw the anger and rage building in Daryl's blue eyes as Rick barely shook his head then they heard someone walking in the room.

Daryl listened to Bob and Rick talking with Gareth when a loud explosion filled the air and Gareth left the room. Daryl had also seen Rick cutting into the zip ties when the zip ties snapped and Rick attacked the bald man and the thin man before freeing them.

"Move!" Rick said as they ran to find weapons and the sound of gunfire echoed around them. They ran into the next room as they saw human body parts hanging off meat hooks or on the tables and Daryl, Bob and Glenn grabbed some knifes off the tables.

"Son of a bitch," Daryl grumbled as he broke off a piece of pipe and he shook his head.

"We can't let them get away with this."

"Rick!" Glenn said with wide eyes.

"None of them get to survive."

Nodding, Glenn, Bob and Daryl followed him to the door as they looked outside and they saw the Walkers attacking the others. Daryl looked around when he pointed and they ran, fighting Walkers as they tried to find a place to hide.

A few minutes earlier

Carol walked by the Walkers as the Walkers attacked the fence and she ducked down in the grass. She looked at the people attacking the Walkers when she saw Rick, Daryl, Glenn and Bob on the ground and her eyes widened.

"No," she whispered while she watched them being taken away and the Walkers head for the fence. She opened the tote bag when she removed the rifle and the rocket launcher and she placed the rocket launcher on the ground. Taking aim, Carol fired the rifle at the gas tank until streams of the gas filled the air and the Walkers headed toward the sound of the gas hissing out of the tank. Picking up the rocket launcher then placing the rocket into the rocket launcher, Carol took aim, fired and the rocket flew through the air. She placed the rocket launcher down on the ground as she covered her ears and the tank exploded.

A/N: Sorry about the flashbacks. Wanted to show what happened back at the prison and the CDC.
