A/N: If you haven't seen the movie, the girl who is Scott's best friend goes by Boof, and I don't think her real name is ever revealed. Also, this is
a continuation of the best scene in the movie. I could watch it over and over and never get tired of it. I wish it was longer, which is why I wrote
this short piece.
The crowd spilled out of the gym, but Scott, his father and Boof continued their celebration. The Beavers had won the championship and Scott couldn't imagine a
more perfect moment.
"This calls for pizza!" Scott's father shouted, to which Scott and Boof cheered in approval.
"I'm gonna shower and get changed, so give me a few minutes?"
Boof smiled. "Of course."
"Take your time, son."
Scott paused to give Boof another kiss and then hurried to the locker room. He high-fived a few of his teammates and was relieved that Mick wasn't around.
That jerk was the last person he wanted to see. Moments later he was showered and changed, anxious to return to Boof.
He paused at the gym door, watching her talk to his father. She was so beautiful and he loved her so much. How had he not seen it before? He'd hurt her so
many times because of his need to be popular. But popularity was highly overrated. At that moment he vowed to make Boof happier than she'd ever dreamed.
"You clean up real nice." She quipped, greeting him with a kiss.
Scott blushed. "Thanks."
"So, where to?" His father asked.
"Oh, how about Mario's?"
Boof's eyes lit up. There really was no other choice. Mario's was their place. They'd been there hundreds of times, but now it was even more special.
As they drove to the restaurant, Scott's father chatted with him about the game. But Scott couldn't help stealing glances in the rear view mirror at Boof who was
sitting in the backseat.
The restaurant was much more crowded than he expected and it didn't take long for the kids to break into cheers and applause when they saw him. Although
he'd never admit it, Scott had never been prouder of his teammates.
They ordered a large pizza, soft drinks and desert to celebrate. It was the best meal he'd ever had, but he knew that it had a lot to do with the company.
When they arrived home, Boof looked at Scott shyly. "Thanks for the pizza, Mr. Howard."
Scott's father smiled. "It was my pleasure. Well, I'll let you and Scott say goodnight. I'm gonna finish up some work and get to bed."
Scott hugged his father. "Goodnight Dad."
Boof followed suit, kissing Mr. Howard on the cheek. "Goodnight."
Alone in the driveway, they gazed at one another. "So, did you want to come in?"
"No, I'd better get home."
Disappointed, Scott smiled. "Right. It's been a long day."
"Yeah. Well,-."
"Why don't I walk you home? It's dark and… well, I don't want anything to happen to you."
"Thanks, Scott."
The walk to Boof's house was much too short and Scott did everything he could to prolong the goodbye. "I'll call you tomorrow?"
"You'd better." Boof replied.
Scott pulled her into his arms and kissed her with everything he had. He'd been waiting to kiss her like that his whole life.
"Wow…" they both said simultaneously when the kiss ended.
"Goodnight, Boof."
"Goodnight."
He kissed her once more and then started to head for home, but at the last minute he turned around. "Boof?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"The way I've been acting, the way I treated you, the-."
Her fingers touched his lips. "Shut up, Scott."
"But I was a jerk, and-."
"Shut up!" Boof repeated.
"But-."
She pulled him into her arms and kissed him. It was the most incredible moment he'd ever experienced.
"Wow…" He said, feeling slightly light headed when she pulled away.
"So, call me tomorrow?"
"I don't think I can wait that long." Scott admitted.
"You know what they say… Good things come to those who wait."
He watched her as she entered her house and seconds later the light in her bedroom brightened the upstairs window. She waved at him, making him feel like he
could fly.
Good things definitely came to those who waited. And Boof was more than worth waiting for.
