Chapter 34: Paraiso Mayhem, Part 2
"Drake, I swear to the Gods-"
"I know, I know- I shouldn't be trying to lag behind to look at the 'nature' around us," A certain Narakhan interjected, a bit incensed at the fact that he couldn't get more time to ogle some women from afar. "But seriously, why would the High Prime put us through all of this?"
"Entertainment? Personal Amusement?" Shin started to list out effortlessly as he followed behind us, glancing nervously left and right out of nervousness. "Maybe trying to change the rules enforced by Lady Messiah about males not being allowed?"
"That could be fun," Drake admitted giddily, only for his approval for the move to dip as he realized the implications behind that 'try'. "If we weren't in… well, this situation."
"Sadly, there isn't much to do about it beyond surviving through this challenge," I reminded aloud, getting a few nods from my fellow targets.
The situation was far from ideal with how limited her steps were and how we were slowly getting encircled by the large horde of women which had thoughts on us that ranged from sexual to violent. Yes, I was already aware that there were plenty of bad endings to this unplanned escape and so I wasn't willing to put myself and the others in the middle of harm's way until we had 'won'. Somehow. I didn't even know what constituted a win as Mora hadn't told me about the time limit if there was one. Because, at this point, I really hoped there was a time limit we could depend on to ultimately call this our victory.
"And it would be best to get out of this kind of environment as quickly as possible."
"Why so?" The blond inquired in confusion, giving me a perplexed look. "I thought we agreed that delving deeper in the island would be advantageous for hiding?"
"That was before I remembered we had Geecku on our trail."
Which was far from ideal. At this very moment, the Life Crest could be lurking around and hunting us down through some methods I had no means to counter at the moment… or ever. It was the Life Crest we were talking about after all, and I had nothing to stop her from getting to us. I tried to think positively about it and try to ignore that being a pressing issue anytime soon… but I was quite sure that I may have jinxed myself… or that was part of Drake's immediate question as to the reason I provided for the duo.
"Who is Geecku?"
I was about to answer when I realized that something was wrong. The ground started to experience a minor earthquake. We stopped at the first shakes, but I was quite sure this place was well away from highly-seismic areas so… Why was the ground trembling? Why were the trees shaking? And, most important, is that... Geecku on top of that approaching T-Rex?
…
My mouth opened and-
"Found ya!" The girl exclaimed eagerly. "Naranja, capture!"
"ROAAAAAAARRRRRR!"
"Ahhhhhh!" Shin started to scream as he was the first one to run away, the rest chasing closely as we tried to run away from that dinosaur.
"That's a Geecku!" I yelled mid-chase.
"What!" Drake exclaimed loudly. "How did she even find a T-Rex in a place like this one!?"
"I..." My voice went missing for a while, either the panic or the fact I just didn't know precisely how.
Didn't Messiah once bring up during one of our conversations the idea of settling 'exotic animals' on the island? Surely she didn't actually go out of her way to find a T-Rex and place it here. That would be highly irresponsible. We had a couple of Jurassic Park movies that explain why that sounded like a stupid and deadly idea. But as much as I tried to rationalize the situation, I just couldn't. There were too many variables I wasn't taking into account and the panic running into my brain made any effort to think about it fairly scarce.
We were running fast and in an aimless manner, with no clear clue of where we were going at the moment and what we were supposed to do. Eventually, it became clear we all thought the same thing: for the time being, we had to scatter and try to distract Geecku. It sounded like a sound plan as this should have confused both T-Rex and its rider for the time being. At least, that sounded like a good thought… until Geecku actually shifted her attention to the main target she had in this chase.
And that was me.
"Declan!" She joyously called out, Naranja roared giddily as the behemoth gave me pursuit. "You are mine!"
Nope!
My legs didn't show any signs of giving up that run. I just couldn't allow this to happen. Yet, I knew that I couldn't exactly win a chase in terms of speed. The T-Rex was easily gaining on me, forcing me to take sharp turns to avoid getting caught in long sprints. I was definitely risking this whole situation, but soon I found salvation in the form of one of the many lakes in Paraiso.
I knew T-Rex couldn't swim in deep water bodies, so, after dropping the bag with my things into a nearby bush, I jumped into the water and started to swim away from the land. I swam fast, briefly glancing behind as I dreaded the chance Geecku could have kept the chase going by trying to out-swim me into this situation but… she didn't.
In fact, the pouting Life Crest stared at my retreating form from the top of the grumbling T-Rex's head. Soon, they left, defeated but definitely going to come back for me once I was once more on sight. I lingered in the water just for a while, letting them get away as much as possible while also trying to 'wash off' what probably gave off my whereabouts. My scent, or whatever smell Geecku could try to rely on to track me down.
Once I felt confident I was free from getting back to shore, I swam back to the general area where I first entered the lake and spent a while retrieving my bag. Much to my relief, the phone hadn't broken in that quick throw, leaving me with the chance of being found by Mora and… hopefully brought to safety. Still, for the time being, it was only for the best that I found where the others went before they ended up in some trouble. Once again, I felt like I was their babysitter more than what my current task was. Surviving.
"This is definitely getting a lot more complicated than it needs to be," I lamented while putting my bag on. "But seriously, let's get back to business."
Making my way out of the lake area from the opposite direction that Geecku took, I tried to think where the others could have gone. I could only work on assumptions as the split-up happened a while ago, so I had to rely on 'trajectory' if they didn't stray away from the direction they first took. First one to be tracked down was Shin.
I knew Drake was the most troublesome of the group, but he was also the craftiest and the one that wouldn't set himself up for trouble. Shin was easier to trick if one knew how to pull him by his kinks, so I had to look out for him before he got really captured because of his lack of sexual resilience.
The search for the blond would eventually force me to get back into one of the main areas of the resort, a desolate swimming pool section. It was one of many, so it was clear that, with a large majority of girls hunting us down, some of the areas were meant to be as deserted as this one.
I was about done with crossing the small gate that divided the resort from the natural habitat surrounding it when I was forced to pause. I heard a tree's branch snap from behind, my eyes widened and my body tensed before I actually jumped away and barely dodged a tackle from above. I turned around, a shocked look on my face as I quickly recognized the figure that tried to capture me.
"Rachael?" I said while looking at the Cat Prime. "W-We can talk about this."
"I wasn't planning to talk. I want something more than just talking."
Oh. Oh no.
She hummed, licking her lips. "You know, the High Prime said two interesting things about Paraiso."
The girl took a step towards me.
"Ambar says a lot of things. Most of which aren't true."
"But what if I want to believe she said the truth?" The young woman argued. "What if I want to really believe that what happens in Paraiso, stays in Paraiso~?"
"Then I would have to tell you that it's wrong and untrue," I sharply replied, my words ignored as she finally rushed towards me, I moved away, turning and starting to run from her.
"It doesn't have to be like this, Rach," I firmly pointed out. "You are better than this."
"Maybe I don't want to be better! Maybe I want to be happy!" She rebuked fiercely, her pace gaining extra speed. "Plus, this sounds more like some kinky play than anything else. We were already planning for something."
"Not this public, Rachael," I argued calmly. "That's why I'm opposed right now."
Her steps faltered. "W-What- wait, you're actually okay with… you know."
"Mora already agreed to that and I too accepted that. Why would I say no to it like that?"
She stopped and I followed her example shortly after. The girl looked confused, thoughtful and incredibly embarrassed.
"Ah."
"Rachael, did you actually hunt me down because you thought I wasn't going to plan something with you and Mora during our stay here?"
…
"M-Maybe."
I resisted the urge to facepalm at that. "Rach, we really need to communicate now. This… this game is plain stupid. Look, we got pulled there because Ambar promised us stuff to help, for me it was farm-related so we can enjoy a greater breathing space in terms of the finances," I explained to her. "So, how about we do this: we collaborate, we pick the others and we just never bring this awkward scene up ever again?"
She frowned. "But the game-"
"What wish would you get out of the High Prime by capturing me?"
"Well, I can… I mean, I could technically… Oh," Rachael finally realized what the issue was in that line of thought. Considering her main goal was to get laid and for me to be the guy, the fact I was already planning something along those lines effectively ruined that kind of wish because it was going to happen. She had nothing meaningful to ask which would make the labor worthwhile. "I see the problem with it but… it just feels so awkward and-"
"But we can totally team-up!" A new voice exclaimed as I felt a pair of arms sneakily wrap around my neck. I tensed up just briefly, but I swiftly recognized the girl giggling on my shoulder. "Hiya!"
"Are you enjoying the holidays, Sarah?"
"Yep! But I was feeling a bit annoyed by the game," The blonde admitted with a hint of frustration. "Three boys against a hundred and twenty women sounds really mean on ya. So, we can join you and make it funnier."
"Well, I suppose we can," I happily replied, saying nothing on the fact she was literally holding onto me and almost asking to carry her like that.
I helped her a bit and she giggled again as she shifted better in that position, nuzzling her neck onto my shoulder. In a very peculiar way, I felt at ease with Sarah despite how she was pressing herself onto me this tightly. I just couldn't help but remember how she was just very affectionate and nothing more, which prevented me from getting any trouble similar to the ones I had with her sister and Sandy.
"What about you, Rach?"
"I'm in," She quipped quickly. "But… I don't think I understand what we are supposed to do."
"Well, considering Ambar's attention span and her hold on the resort? I think we need to remain uncaught for a full day. Beyond that, we should be done with it."
"So it's like Hide and Seek?"
"But extreme, yes," I answered Sarah's guess. "In fact, I will be honest with you two. The reason why I split with the boys was because of Geecku."
"What about her?" Rachael asked with a curious frown on her face.
"She got a T-Rex."
…
"Really?"
I nodded. "Really."
…
"Declan, surely that can't be a real one."
"Trust me when I say Geecku somehow got hold of a T-Rex and she is hunting us on top of its head."
"That sounds..." Sarah started to say quietly, before exploding in a bubbly exclamation. "SO AWESOME~!"
"And dreadful," The older Cat Prime confirmed quietly, nodding at my awkward perspective. "Still, I believe we can make it. We just… need to find the others, right?"
I nodded, explaining how I got just a few hints on where they might have gone and it was just for the best to try and not to get in any exposed sections of the resort just yet. Regardless of that cautious plan, I couldn't help but feel that this was going to end up in a big trouble for us all. After all, Ambar wasn't just going to let the fun spoiled if she can't be part of it herself.
Oh yeah, this is going to be a mess alright…
'Found ya.'
If Hope had to be honest, she thanked her own luck and the Gods for guiding her to this place. She didn't exactly have the means to properly track down Declan and the others, and she had to rely on the open radio communication that the High Prime had established to 'limit' the preys' capacity to hide away rather than keep moving. They were not going to get that much leeway during this competition.
Still, the Gazelle Prime was glad that she had waited within the resort's borders for as long as she did, because that's what really landed her in this good spot to follow her current objective as he started to move once again. Hope stared at her target from her little perch near the scene, listening to what they were saying from afar as they started to leave the premises. She got a clear understanding of the situation and she knew what to do next.
Approaching them now wouldn't be effective, not when they had numbers on their side. No, the hunting Gazelle had to rely on the fact she could use their own objective against them. It shouldn't be difficult to find out where Shin was if he had been captured, making it simple to drop hints and let them follow those into her own ambush.
She had a lot to do between setting up the trap and not letting anyone else know what she had in her mind. A sigh left Hope's lips as she knew today was going to be the day. The day where she got good fun out of her current subject of interest, love and affection. Ah yes, she could already imagine how fun that was going to be but...
She couldn't afford losing this momentum, not when the situation was just the best possible to capture her target. But as she planned to leave and start getting on her way, Hope noticed something before looking away. Something that had her look back at the scene with a confused look. At first she thought none of the trio had noticed her, but as she looked back, she found herself subjected to bored blue eyes staring right at her.
Sarah Silkie wasn't supposed to be an obstacle to her due to how Declan had mentioned how she looked at him like another older sibling… yet what she was seeing right now defied the limitations of surrogate siblinghood. In fact, it was clear the chick wasn't just planning to keep in that 'sibling zone' for too long. While the girl wasn't saying anything, that stare sure sent a clear message back to Hope. One that felt oddly serious despite the seemingly calm look on the blonde's face.
He is mine.
A shiver went down Hope's spine as she grasped the meaning of it, but that didn't deter her- In fact, it stirred the sense of competition that had just woken up at the beginning of this challenge. She smiled back, and she handed out her own challenge.
Bring it.
The girl smiled back with the same intensity and she knew that it was now on. That was both a fun development and an increase in difficulty as she now had to keep track of the trio while also trying to hide away from the ever-attentive gaze owned by the blond kitty. Her smile persisted beyond that frustrating thought as she knew the reward at the end of that road was more than enough to make the entire situation worthwhile. Picking herself up, Hope began her silent and slow chase, cunningly setting up the trap that would give her what she wanted. Yes, she thought, this was going to be a fun game alright.
Meanwhile, another figure quietly followed the determined girl, taking note of the situation. She sighed softly and shook her head, worrying that her daughter might be behaving a bit naughtier than usual.
To be fair, that young man sure looked quite handsome and funny. Maybe she could give him a try herself~.
AN
Geecku is prowling with Naranja, Rachael is plotting a silly plan, Sarah is plotting a seriously ambitious and good plan, and Hope is following Declan while her mother is following her following Declan.
It's already a mess. But a fun mess.
REVIEW Q&A!
Jeannie: It's actually tied to her father. Mora's father is a Fennec Fox Narakhan. It's kind of an implicit rule that all Primes have a chance to inherit part of both parents appearances if those are of 'different sub-species'. An example are Hope and Joy since they inherited a good part from their mother, but some details like their tails are from their father. A funnier combination is Shin himself since his mother is a Cat Prime with white fur and his father is a Tiger Prime, so he was born a White Tiger Prime.
