"Valentine!" the sharp call of Flitwick snapped me out of my trance
Yes Sir" I jumped out of my seat almost saluting
"I know you're my top charms student but vandalism will not be tolerated even in a wizarding school"
I looked at him slightly confused before realising my wand was still scratching strange markings into the table
My heart almost stopped. "I'm so sorry sir. I'll fix it right away" Pointing the right end at the damage I muttered "Repairo" the tip of my wand glowed a soft white and the markings began to fade at the edges…but then they crawled back out like watching the scars of lightning form in slow motion.
"Repairo" I chanted again. Both Lupin and Sirius both looked over intrigued, never before hearing me utter the same spell twice, once again the engravings reappeared. "You've lost your touch" Sirius snickered to which I sent a scowl.
"Do you want me to-" Lupin offered
"Repairo" the glow persisted but so did the scars. My cheeks puffed with Sirius's jeering.
"Hmmmm how peculiar" the small man hummed before he waved his wand over the mess. This time however the table cracked and splintered. The children screamed rolling under desks and behind towers of books as the teacher tumbled over his foot hold. "Oh dear, I suggest you go see Headmaster Dumbledore about this" Flitwick suggested readjusting the dust covered glasses.
"Haha you're in trouble" Black teased earning him a rightful fist to the noggin.
…. Inside the office...
The great desk surrounded by walls of books sat empty. Paintings on the walls began muttering upon my entrance and a fiery red bird perched on a nearby stand. Scanning the shelves I ran my fingers across the worn spines of spell books, potion recipes and prophecies. Speaking of which, a luminous orb glowed dimly on his desk. Clouds of smoke swirled methodically sending me into a mesmerised trance. This room was filled to the brim with unspoken history. I reached out to cup the smooth object between my palms and immediately fell into a void of darkness. Readjusting to the new found dim lighting I found myself sitting high upon a shelf layered in inches of dust. Faint voices could be heard from between the hundreds of orbs that lined the rickety platforms, a bespectacled boy balanced me between his fingers. The round glasses that framed his innocent features and that unruly black hair that speaks of his mischief held a striking resemblance to a certain prankster I know. Though the eyes were another story. Calm and collected, calculated yet warm despite the glassy blue. I couldn't put my finger on who these eyes belonged to as the bolt shaped scar burned angrily regardless of what time has passed.
An ominous call echoed painfully through my head.
"The one with the power to vanquish the dark lord approaches… And the dark lord shall mark him as his equal but he shall over power the dark lord… For neither can live while the other survives…." the voice finished before
I was pulled yet again into another void. This time in the middle of a forest clearing.
"Miss Valentine." before I could see anymore the Headmaster's office came back into view. "I hope you aren't following after your brother Jack" he warned.
"I would never" my hands threw themselves up as if arrested
"Good" he gingerly rolled the cloudy sphere into a cushioned yellow paper bag.
"Sorry sir" I watched the little ball's journey into the envelope, "But what is that thing? Uncle Nick has something like it sitting back home but it's not cloudy like this one. Who were those people? Where are t-"
"Now Miss Valentine it wasn't something you were supposed to see. If you wouldn't mind it would be best if the both of us forgot this ever happened….agreed?"
I hesitated at the thought of letting someone come to harm because I didn't say anything, but nonetheless agreed. Who could argue with Albus Dumbledore?
"Now you were sent here by Professor Flitwick, yes?"
I nodded
"it seemed there was a spell that couldn't be undone"
"Actually it wasn't a spell, Professor. I don't know what happened. One moment I was reading my charms book and the next thing I knew I zoned out and my wand began scratching the table. I tried to fix it, but nothing happened and when Professor Flitwick tried, the table exploded"
"Ah yes, we had a similar problem with Jack. Mr Filch was deeply upset with the event of unseasonal snow indoors. Took him weeks to shovel it out the front door, and each time he tried the pile would grow back. Of course we tried magic and even Jack couldn't undo the summoning, but do you know how he fixed it?"
I shook my head in anticipation. Boy wonder and prodigy mischief with no control over his powers? Now this I've got to hear.
"He found his name."
"…his name? Wait. How am I supposed to do that?"
"Well I assume your name is linked to your guardianship. He excelled in charms and quidditch above all else while you charms and potions. Perhaps if you start there you'll get a clue"
"And will this magic continue to play up until I do so?"
"It did for your brother" he somewhat shrugged
I chewed on my inner cheek. Was he making this a competition?
"By the way Mr Filch wishes to see you about the classroom damages"
…..Later that night…..
