Proving Them Wrong
MissLinuxthePenguin
Summary: She had tried to prove them wrong her whole life, but nothing would work. In the end, it took everything she had, including her life, to reach her single goal... JL Fluffy Angst. James' ramblings on muggleborn prejudice.
A/N : To my reviewers, you .. inspired me.
DISCLAIMER: Ms.JKRowling owns it all, I own nada.Except the plot, maybe? ... nope. it's all hers.
James' PoV:
When we were little, I wondered why she acted so strangely. She was so ... determined, especially back then. Determined to do well. Now, as I look back I get it. She wanted to prove herself. She had stepped in this- no, my, my world with a handicap. Something some people could use against her. And she knew it.
Mudblood.
MuggleBorn.
Half Blood.
Words that are not politically correct, yet they soon found their way into her vocabulary. And they stung. Stung like ice cold wind.
"What's a half blood like you going to do about it?"
"Look at the little muggleborn, what an idiot!"
"Die. Mudblood. Die."
She shook the words off, not letting such cruel things get to her. She had just became more determined to prove them wrong. Which she did.
One of the only times I've seen her truly giddy (for lack of a better word) was the day she got accepted. Being Head Girl at Hogwarts wasn't enough prove for them, so she went on to even better things. Better things, what better things you ask? Becoming a healer, I'd reply (if you did ask, which you didn't, it was all theoretically).
"Miss Evans,
We are proud to inform you that you have been selected to start your Healer training this August.
We joyfully welcome you aboard,
The Staff & Healers at St. Mungo's."
Maybe, she must have thought, if she could show them she had the power within her to heal their most horrid wounds that they would learn to look past her heritage. But they still couldn't. Not them.
Throughout her life, she tried to prove them wrong. I think thats what finally got to her in the end. She couldn't stand it anymore.
Maybe that's why she agreed when Dumbledore told us we had to go into hiding.
Hiding. She had spent her whole life trying to build a world where she wouldn't have to hide. But, now, it was the only thing protecting that precious life of hers.
And mine, I guess. And his.
But it didn't work. Like everything in her life, it didn't work. They found us. And ... the rest was for the history books.
But now? Now, the world looks back on her life and they don't see her as a muggleborn or a mudblood. The magical world sees her as a person. As a witch.
She sacrificed her childhood to try to make them see, and in her ultimate sacrifice of her life she finally succeeded.
She had changed the future for the better. She had made the first step towards the survival of our world. And they knew it.
Lily Evans had finally proven them wrong. It took her life, her childhood, and her son, but she had done it.
And I couldn't be prouder of her.
"James what are you writing?"
"Nothing, dear. Nothing important."
