Hey MistFits! Sorry this chapter is short! I'm seriously trying to make myself update this story every 2 weeks, but because life has been hectic, I literally just threw this together tonight because I didn't want to skip the 2 weeks that I've successfully started. Anyways, I wonder where things are going to head with this story?

No, seriously...I have no idea myself. I mean, I charted out at least 4 installations in this series, but so far I've already made so many changes that ain't no telling what's happening next?

THE ENEMY'S HEART

Unknown Territories

COMPONENT:

EIGHT

"THAT is why you are here…" Needless to say, she knew the words would be spoken at some point once she arrived and conversed in some many with the Elders…but hearing them was different. There was a certain sharpness to the sentence that left a growing bramble of unease within the subconscious of the human woman's mind. It was a brisk ice that stabbed at her spine and made her head swim. Not long after the quarrels within the meeting chamber, Lex walked down a corridor alongside Scar – the two of them trailing quietly behind both Ta'uk and Yeyin'thwei as the pair of Ancients led the "Outsiders" to their chamber.

Outsiders. It was a term being used by the other Yautja in reference to the pair. Outsiders – because their relationship, bond, and behavior operated outside of Yautja convention and beliefs. Lex did not know, as the two passed countless Hunters along the way, that the word was hissed out in their direction in the Yautja tongue. She did not notice the slight wince Scar barely hid whenever he heard it. It was for the best that she did not…for there was no telling just what she would do if she knew the truth. Nonetheless, the fact that the Ancients were taking the couple to where they would reside within the Mother Ship was more than appreciated. It served a purpose: to be a sign to all those on board that for now the Blooded youngster and ooman female held the approval of the Ancients, therefore: not to be trifled with more than was acceptable. Scar was silently grateful for this as well – because he was already in a foul mood – and should another Yautja have made the same mistake that red, burned fool of a youth had done earlier, then Scar may have done the unthinkable…and paid a heavy price for it.

They turned a small, rounded corner, before approaching a door at the end of the hall. It was completely on its own – which offered the couple privacy they would surely need while here…and especially tonight. Scar touched the pad beside the door, and with a soft hiss the mechanism flew open. It was practically a private residence all its own: a massive bed, storage along the walls, a supply of weapons. If it weren't for the bones and mist decorating the room, Lex would've considered it an apartment of sorts that she could grow entirely comfortable in. Scar crossed the threshold, Lex following suit before turning back to face the Ancients on the other side. Ta'uk folded his arms and craned his head backwards a bit, directing his words more so to Scar. "We will be leaving this quadrant soon. The young ones must be prepared for their trials amongst the clans…"

Scar nodded, absently. Ta'uk looked to Lex then – but although he looked at her, and spoke in her language, his next phrase was meant purely for Scar. "Perhaps that is where she should start…" He heard a growl threaten to raise from its place in the Blooded Hunter's chest, and the ruler of the ship could not help but smirk before turning and heading back down the hall from whence they'd originally came. Scar walked further into the room, pacing. His agitation levels raised significantly after that, and for good reason.

Lex watched him depart before turning to face Yeyin'thwei, who wore an obvious smile. There was some childish mischief in those old eyes – and Lex found herself doubting yet again as she had back in the meeting whether Yeyin'thwei was as safe in her regard as the woman once thought he was. Yet, somehow, the longer she looked at him, the more complacent and at peace she felt. He wasn't an enemy to her…he was just an old warrior looking to have some fun – even at the expense of her taunting. "Rest," Yeyin'thwei purred, leaning his weight against the staff in his hands. He looked frail in doing so, but every Yautja here – and Lex – knew that to be lie. "While you can. There will be peace for a short while. You will need that time to gain your strength, Little Sister."

Lex bowed her head reverently. "Thank you, Ancient One," she whispered softly before casting a nervous glance over her shoulder at the still pacing Scar.

Yeyin'thwei cackled. "Come now," he said, his eyes betraying a gentle fondness. "If I can call you 'Little Sister', you can shake the formalities. You are here as my personal guest. We are friends, Little Sister. Yes?"

Lex sighed, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "If that is what you want, then yes: we are friends."

"It is," replied the Ancient, as he reached out and took her cheek into his palm. "I also want for you to call me 'Ye'. It will be easier for you – and burn Krii'var with rage knowing that he does not have the honor. That will amuse me even more."

Amuse you, while practically mean death for me, thought Lex to herself. But she nodded her head. "Okay. I will…Ye…"

Yeyin'thwei paused, hesitating for a brief moment in shock perhaps that she had actually said it…and perhaps in liking the way it sounded coming from her. He removed his claws from her cheek and stepped back, a baffled groan reverberating within his chest. "Little ooman, you somehow stoke a fire within me. I see more and more why the Blooded youth cannot let you go. If I were younger…" And he heartily laughed at her expression – turning with a raised hand in farewell and disappearing down the hall to where Ta'uk waited patiently.

The door whizzed shut, and Lex took a deep breath before turning to face Scar…who was standing but a few inches away from her – and it was clear that he was not happy with her in the slightest. Lex sighed, putting a hand on her hip and frowning up at him. "Scar," she said evenly, "can we not? I REALLY don't want to fight with you again. It wasn't enjoyable the first time."

Scar's brows furrowed so deeply, that for once since their bond had been rekindled, she found his face to be somewhat frightening. "Won't be…enjoyable…THIS TIME."

"Scar-."

"NO!" he roared out with such ferocity that Lex literally leaped back and slammed against the door which was now sealed shut. "What were you THINKING, Lex?! Do you know…how DANGEROUS…? How...WHAT YOU'VE DONE?!" His fist flew forward, slamming into the wall with such force that Lex could've swore she felt the vibrations dance through the material and into her body. His voice roared again, this time with nothing but indecipherable sounds that gave way to his language.

But Lex was not going to have it as she stomped her foot on the ground and shoved her hands against his chest, pushing him back so she could get around from between him and the door. "Don't give me that!" she yelled, peering into his angered eyes. "Use your words!"

"Lex-!"

"What choice did I HAVE Scar?" she hollered, practically standing on her tiptoes and straining her body to challenge him. "Just stand there and let you and Krii'var keep knocking each other silly? Let the meeting turn into a brawl that could lose control and wind up having BOTH OF US killed?! Sorry sweetheart," she added with a scowl, placing a hand against her collarbone, "but contrary to the way Yautja do things, I didn't come all the way out here to DIE – I came out here to live: to live with YOU." Scar flinched with conviction. "And if I do die," continued Lex, "it'll either be to keep you safe, or die at your side – but I sure as hell don't intend on doing that right now!"

Scar knew that she had a point, but it didn't fully silence his aggravation…nor did it quell the insatiable hunger that tugged at his senses as he watched her raise up against him. "Yautja…we LIVE for proving…ourselves. YOU are not Yautja…your tests…may be more…deadly…" He turned and dropped down onto the edge of the bed, running his claws through his tendrils roughly in frustration. He sighed, deep and hard in a way that made the youth seem so much older than Lex could have imagined. She knew that in Yautja years, Scar was probably a "teenager" according to the assessment that had been formed in Bouvetoya. But how much older was he than she? Was his age the equivalent of teen to his people, but the same as hers in comparison to human years? Somehow seeing him in this moment made the Blooded Youth seem older than she was…There was so much that she had to learn. "Different from Earth, Lex. Up here…can not protect…you like before…like I WANT…"

Like he wanted. His eyes focused on her then at those words, and Lex could see that even in spite of his facial features there was concern for her safety in those alien eyes. They had hoped that perhaps the two could simply pick up and fly across the stars on their own…but it was a fantasy. Somewhere deep down inside they both knew it wasn't a possibility for them…not now. Lex exhaled so softly that she barely registered the action herself, heading towards the massive extraterrestrial. "Scar," she whispered standing between his legs and gently taking his face into her palms. "You've got to have more faith in me. I know you can't protect me from everything…but I know that where it counts, I can count on you to be there." Scar leaned his head forward, resting his cranium into her chest as his hands wrapped around her waist.

"Krii'var…" he growled out. Now HE most definitely was a problem. The Clan Leader would not stop until he could find some way to get rid of Lex or the pair entirely. If there was one thing that Lex needed to be worried about, it was undoubtedly that evil male.

"I'm not going to lie," Lex admitted softly as her fingers played in Scar's tendrils. "He…Scar, he…scares me." Scar jerked his head back and stared up at her with a mixture of shock and anger. "I know. There's not much that does that, but it's something about him." She unconsciously places one of her hands around her neck – the signs of Krii'var's earlier assault becoming more and more noticeable with the purple and black bruising that found itself more prominent against her flesh. "When he had me by the throat, the way he looked at me…" She closed her eyes. "He wants to kill me…He wants to kill you…"

Scar's right hand wraps around the woman, gripping her rump possessively as he pulled and lifted her up, causing Lex's legs to wrap tightly around his waist as he forces her to mount him. "He will die if he tries…" he growled.

"But it's not just about me, Scar," Lex argued, sighing a bit as the male began tracing his mandibles against the flesh of her chest, practically tearing her shirt off of her. "Mmmmm," she hummed softly before continuing, "He will hurt you too, if he can."

"I can…protect myself…" shot back Scar as his right palm squeezed the woman's butt while the left began gliding up her back that was now fully exposed. "You are my mate…Won't let anything…happen to you, Lex…Nothing…but…bliss…" He purrs as his mandibles tickle at the sensitivities upon her chest, relishing the feeling of her fingers delicately stroking and gripping at his tendrils – loving the sound of she made as she gasped under his attentions.

"Scar…" She couldn't focus anymore. It was as if a pheromone had invaded her senses, completely wiping all else from the woman's mind as he attended to her needs. She needed to feel him around her – needed to indulge in the closeness of his presence. She had been scared – genuinely afraid of Krii'var's vicious assault carried out so openly without hint of shame – and only Scar could make her feel safe again.

Scar reached down, gripping at her womanhood from between the fabric of her pants. She arched deeply into him, and the male ushered every ounce of strength in his body forward to not slam her face first into the bedding and take her with the unbearable need that swept over him. "Hungry…Lex…"

"Then eat…" she whispered. He raised with her in his mighty arms and walked her over the nearest wall, pinning her with brimming lust and desire against the texture as he tore away her pants into now unwearable shreds. She reached between them, removing the fabric of his loin cloth to the side as he extended forth into her palm which guided him forward. "Eat, Scar," she groaned as he pushed inward through her barrier. "Eat…ohhh…" With one mighty thrust, the two became connected…and in one another's arms they reconciled…and grew stronger…

To tear them apart, would be to tear at the fabric of space itself – an impossibility for any being. For together these two would challenge the gods of any civilization. They would die for one another, and they would live for one another – until the skies burst into flames, and the seas flood…always. Life nor death could break their bond…and all would know. Every Yautja, and every clan, would hear of their story with wonder, or doubt, or hatred – and sing songs of their names and their victories. Generations would unravel under their name – and all would fear: whether they were enemy…or prey.

To be continued…
