Title: Take the good with the bad
Disclaimer: I don't own them. That would be silly.
"Sammy, pick a show will ya?" Dean said after Sam had gone though each and every channel at least seven times. Sam and gave his brother the remote. Dean hated seeing him like this. Maybe if his father would have said something. Both of them were just trying to be big tough men, but they were really acting like babies. Dean, of course, couldn't say that to either of them. It'd probably just hurt Sam's feelings and John… well Dean didn't feel like sitting on a cushion the whole drive back home.
"We got an early start tomorrow morning." John said. "We should turn in."
Dean was about to turn off the TV, when Sam said "I'm not sleepy."
"Sammy…" Dean tried.
"You will be in the morning." John said, the power in his voice coming out a bit.
"Well it's not like I'M gunna drive anyway." Sam argued.
"You know what? I'm getting sick of this attitude. You need to realize that you cant always get exactly what you want all the time."
"How about none of the time." Sam mumbled.
"You wanna repeat that?" John asked.
"No."
"Excuse me?"
"No… sir." Sam sighed.
"Be ready to go and out at the car at five sharp." John ordered.
"Yes sir." Dean said. He flicked off the TV.
It wasn't always like this. It wouldn't be forever. It just couldn't be. Dean and Sam both had similar thoughts. Although Sam knew exactly how it was gunna change. Deep down in the bottom of his duffel was his ticket out. An acceptance letter to Stanford. He wanted so much to throw it in his fathers face. To finally prove that he wasn't like him. He didn't need to hunt and run credit card scams and hustle pool. He didn't need to live his life based on an event he didn't even remember.
But something kept him from screaming it from the mountaintops. Something made him hold it in. The arms that picked him up when he fell and shielded him from the bad things. The eyes that watched him when his father was gone. Those same eyes watched the flames take their mother away. His big brother Dean. It wasn't just that he didn't want to leave Dean behind. He didn't know if he could make it without him. He thought he could. He hoped he could. But did he know? Was he sure? He'd have to find out.
