ZELTROS - The adult toy manufacturer U-LUV is expected to face legal action following the announcement of their new SaberPlay line of Jedi-themed sex toys. The toys, designed to emulate a lightsaber's hilt and energy blade, come in all sizes and are fully customizable. Customers will be able to design their own saber or choose from a selection of pre-existing models, many of which resemble the sabers of famous Jedi knights. U-LUV's legal department claims that the toys are not in violation of the Jedi Property Act as they do not make use of kyber crystals.
"There is no law against the production and distribution of Jedi paraphernalia," the company wrote in a statement published on their holonet channel this morning. "To ban our products would be to go against the very principles of this republic."
Zwah Te, legal consultant for Coruscant Daily News, has spoken out in defense of U-LUV, saying: "For over a thousand years the Jedi have acknowledged the importance of the free market. There are only two laws in existence regulating the sale of lightsabers: the Jedi Property Act, which bans the sale of kyber crystals without the express permission of the Jedi Order, and the special weapons clause, which includes lightsabers on its list of restricted weapons. There is no legal precedent for the banning of products that merely resemble weapons, regardless of how 'sacred' they may be."
The Jedi have not yet issued a response.
