Well, here we go guys, that new year's eve one shot I promised. I did say it was going to be late right? Well, I hope you enjoy even if it doesn't really go into details about new year's eve and all that stuff. It's pretty much fluff because Romitri fluff is beautiful and makes everything beautiful and better too. And on that note, special dedication to the most important, most amazing, most beautiful lady in my life because she's having a shit day. I'm sure you guys know who she is, but if you don't, it's let love win or Moni.
Anyway, I don't own VA and you don't need a summary. Also thank you so much for all of your amazing reviews on the last one shot!
Here's to a new beginning.
I had been dreading marriage for pretty much my entire life. Ok, no maybe not my entire life, but most of it, and maybe dreading wasn't the right word. I guess I just never thought I would ever get married or ever want to get married. See, my reasons were simple. In my line of work, a guardian to my best friend, Vasalissa Dragomir who had once been the last of her name and thus a royal princess, marriage just didn't seem practical. Another thing was simply the fact that dhampirs, the half vampire and half human that I was didn't really date. We had the speed and agility of the moroi, the full blooded peaceful living vampires without the fangs or taste for blood and, the sun didn't bother us at all which made us perfect athletes and perfect defenders for the moroi against the strigoi, the undead soulless vampires which human myths and horror stories were made of.
From the time us dhampirs could walk, the mantra 'they come first' was drilled into us. It was what we lived by. Hell it was probably the reason guardians didn't have long term relationships. Female guardians like myself were especially rare however because a lot of dhampir women chose to settle in dhampir communes in order to raise their children. And yet others chose to serve moroi men both with their bodies and their blood, thus most dhampirs who didn't choose the guardian life were dubbed bloodwhores even if that wasn't necessarily true. So no, marriage had never been a plan of mine.
But then, I suppose I could argue that meeting Dimitri Belikov once my mentor and now the love of my life hadn't been a plan of mine either, but here we were. Our relationship had been controversial to say the least, what with the afore mentioned titbit about him once being my mentor, but we hadn't let societal bullshit stop us. Hell we'd had enough bullshit in general and even that had not been able to keep us apart. So when I'd turned 20 and Dimitri had asked me to marry him, I'd said yes.
With that rock on my finger, Dimitri had wanted to put another one there as soon as possible. Apparently it wasn't enough that he had miraculously convinced Rose Hathaway to marry him. I mean I did want to marry him, he was the only guy that I had ever wanted to marry, but hey I didn't see the point of rushing it. Or rather, I didn't see the point of making a huge deal over it, something I knew was going to happen the second we set a date. See when your best friend had gone on to become the queen of your world, and you were the only daughter of Ibrahim Mazur a well-known moroi who everyone knew was in some shady as fuck shit and Janine Hathaway a guardian to a wealthy lord, a big deal over the wedding of their daughter was to be expected. Which was why Dimitri and I had done what we'd just done.
"You are so beautiful my love," He said, that beautiful Russian accent wrapping around me like a lover's embrace as his lips met mine in a slow, gentle kiss. I kissed him back, a smile seeming permanently etched on my face now.
"Lissa is going to be so mad," I said when we pulled away. He chuckled and pulled me in close.
"I think everyone is," He said. "But they can deal." Grinning, I kissed him again, just as the pilot made the announcement that we were about to land. Grumbling, I put my seatbelt back on and waited for the plane to make its descent, more than a little excited to go see Lissa and show off the new ring gracing my finger. As far as she knew, we had taken a trip to bring our friends Sydney and Adrian and their adopted dhampir son Declan and Daniella, Adrian's mother back to court, something she had gladly given us leave to do as it was new year's eve. What she didn't know, however, was that we'd stopped in Las Vegas on the way there where we'd gotten married.
…
We went right to Lissa and Christian's quarters, the guards at the door only nodding as Dimitri and I entered like we owned the place, Adrian, Sydney and Daniella trailing us. Lissa and Christian were snuggled up on the couch, Lissa's half-sister Jill Mastrano Dragomir and her dhampir boyfriend Eddie Castil, a longtime friend of mine snuggled nearby. They all looked up as we entered and Jill flew at me in a huge hug.
"How are they?" She asked. "Did Declan like his gifts? Oh man he must be sooo big now. How's Adrian? Sydney?"
"Whoa, one question at a time, woman." I said laughing as I hugged her back. "And Jill, you can ask them yourself." Confused, she turned and a squeal that could've raised the dead broke past her lips when she caught sight of the rest of our party.
Lissa and I looked at each other and grinned. This had been Lissa's idea, a gift of sorts for both her sister and Adrian. With the psychic bond between Jill and Adrian, one which had been forged when Adrian had literally brought Jill back from death with his magic, the same kind of magic Lissa had, their relationship was one that ran deep without being romantic. So being together was good for them both but it wasn't something that happened often.
Leaving Jill to catch up with the Ivashkovs, I slid my hand into my pocket, slipping the ring onto my finger as I did and walked over to Lissa. "This was a brilliant idea," I said to her casually brushing some hair away from my face. She started to smile then froze for all of a second.
"Oh my god," She said grabbing my hand. "Rosemarie Hathaway, you did not!"
"Well, the ring seems to tell a different story now doesn't it?" I asked my eyes alight with humor.
"But," She stared at my face then at the ring. "No no no. When? How? Why?" I couldn't help it. I started laughing and her confused look transformed into a glare. I laughed harder because Lissa looked like an angel. She was all bark and no bite at least where I was concerned.
"Yes actually and to answer your questions, today, a typical Vegas wedding without all the drama, and why? Well, because I love him and want to spend the rest of my life with him." Lissa rolled her eyes.
"Of course you do," She said like it was the most obvious thing in the world, which knowing us, it kind of was. "But why the shady as hell wedding? Why did you have to go all the way to Nevada to do it? If you'd wanted to do it so soon you know we could've pulled it off here in no time at all. Hell we could've had everything ready for the time you guys got back from bringing them here."
"See that right there? That's why, Liss." I said. "We didn't want all the drama. We just wanted something simple and small and if we'd gotten married at court, we couldn't have had that." She grumbled and pouted and I groaned. "No, Jesus, please no pouting."
"Well I guess I understand," She said. "But I'm still mad at you two. You know I wanted to plan your wedding! I told you from the day he proposed!"
"Well, no planning needed, your majesty." She glared again that mask of queenly indifference sliding onto her face and I groaned. No good could ever come from that.
"Since I didn't get to plan your wedding," She said seriously. "I'm going to plan the honeymoon and there's nothing you can do to stop me. For the next 2 weeks, you guys are off duty. That means no working the gates. No perimeter patrols. No accompanying Christian if he has to leave court. No guarding my door and no guarding at council meetings." I opened my mouth to say something, but she held up a hand. "Effective immediately, and that's an order. I won't ask you to leave court because I know you'll both prefer being closer to us so instead, you guys can do whatever you want around here and if you do decide to leave, the jet is at your full disposal."
"Are you done now?" I asked her rolling my eyes. She nodded and smiled at me. I grinned and hugged her whispering thank you in her ear. When she'd said she was planning our honeymoon, I'd been expecting to hear that we were getting sent off to somewhere and we didn't have a choice which would've been nice, but I would've been worried about Lissa and I knew Dimitri would've been worried about Christian too. So being here where we could drop by every now and again but not having to work was a dream come true.
"You're very welcome," Lissa said. "Now get out of here."
"Yes, ma'am." I said taking Dimitri's hand and starting to head for the door.
"And guys?" Lissa said making us stop and turned back around. "Congratulations." Similar sentiments filled the room and we grinned.
As Dimitri and I walked out, hand in hand, I couldn't help but be excited. Not just for these couple of weeks with him but for the rest of our lives. This might've been something I never thought I could have, but now I had it. This was a new beginning and when the clock struck 12, I looked up at Dimitri and knew this was going to be an amazing year. It was the beginning of the most amazing years of our lives.
He lowered his head and captured my lips with his and I was home. Outside, fireworks lit the sky in bursts of beautiful colours, but in his eyes was where my attention lied. He pushed me back onto the bed and I went willingly, the fireworks unable to hold a candle to the sparks that erupted between us when our bodies came together. This time was different from every other time, somehow more beautiful and magical than ever before. We took it slow, each touch taking us to new heights and it was needless to say that we didn't go to sleep until hours later exhausted and sore, but in the best most delicious way possible.
I hope you guys enjoyed, you know how to find me! Leave me some reviews now, and drop by my other stories because it's time to wrap up In the Rain and write some more for Amor Prohibido.
