Oh, and one more thing, I don't own VA
A lot to be grateful for.
I used to dream of mornings like these. Mornings when I could wake up slowly and naturally, simply because I'd actually had enough sleep and not because of a blaring alarm clock which meant I had to rush off somewhere. I'd be the first to admit that even a couple months ago, this seemed so far out of my reach because even I thought that I was either going to die or live my life on the run forever.
You see, when you were accused of killing the moroi queen, nobody cared whether you had actually done it or not. That was no small thing and, it'd certainly come with consequences. Perhaps the most dire of them was that the guardians had the authority to shoot me down on sight, something which to me was just plain wrong. When you spent your life training in hand to hand combat, well guns just felt like cheating. But I supposed none of that mattered anymore, because now here I was, having exactly what I thought would never be mine.
As I turned my head and my eyes landed on the man lying next to me, I felt an automatic smile sliding onto my face. Of all the things I'd now achieved, this was one of the best parts if not the absolute best. He was already awake and had been staring at the sun coming in through the open window, but as if feeling my gaze, he turned to look at me. A beautiful smile lit his face and dear god what had I ever done to deserve him, to deserve this? I wasn't sure, but as Dimitri's lips found mine in a soft, gentle kiss, I decided it must have been something amazing.
"Good morning Roza," He said when we'd pulled apart. I smiled softly and snuggled deeper into his arms, breathing in his familiar and intoxicating smell.
"Morning," I said again lifting my head and kissing his cheek. "Happy Thanksgiving, comrade." His smile grew and ok, let's be honest. There were few things that could melt my heart. After all, my life did consist of fighting and killing undead vampires so I could protect Lissa, my best friend and the queen of my race and the peaceful living vampires. Or well, I suppose it did. Now it mainly consisted of life in a huge college campus and royal council meetings, but still, seeing Dimitri smile like that, watching his eyes sparkle with love and happiness? Well, that was right at the top of my list of things that absolutely melted my heart.
"Happy Thanksgiving my love." He said and he pulled me impossibly closer and kissed me again. It was a soft kiss, one full of love and tender adoration, but as it often did with us, that kiss quickly turned into something deeper and more passionate.
I rolled him over onto his back and hovered above him, my long, dark hair falling around us like a kirtan and yet we never broke apart. If anything, our kisses only grew fiercer. Dimitri wrapped his arms around my waist, effectively pulling me down so I straddled his hips. My own arms were wrapped around his neck fingers plunging into his silky hair, our lips moving in a dance it seemed only we knew until I pulled back for air and then promptly forgot how to breathe, letting out a breathy moan as his lips found home in my neck.
Tilting my head back, I gasped as his lips trailed kisses over my skin. I looked up at him only to find him already watching me. His eyes were darker than usual and, I couldn't help shivering at that look he often got-the one that made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. And when he sucked a mark and then pulled back, I decided enough was enough.
"Don't tease, comrade." I damn near whined. He chuckled and I faked a pout, but I knew he wasn't as unaffected as he was trying to portray. The evidence of that was pressed up against me and I took advantage of the fact that I was straddling him, shifting so my center pressed against him.
In that instant, all of his pretense vanished. His eyes darkened, a growl rumbling in his chest. A growl which sent instant moisture pooling between my legs. Dimitri's nostrils flared, almost as if he could smell my arousal and a shudder ran through me just at the thought. Slowly, I rocked my hips against him, an involuntary moan leaving my lips.
"Now who's teasing Roza?" He asked looking at me with those dark, dark eyes. That was all the foreplay I could take. Dimitri's accent, light as it was, was sexy on a regular day, but when he was like this, it came out sounding thicker and, was actually pretty erotic. Something I was sure he knew.
Leaning down, I pressed a kiss to his lips, my hands trailing up and down his bare chest and down his stomach. He wasted no time taking off my shirt which was actually his shirt, his hands cupping my breasts. I shivered slightly as my body was exposed to the cool air, but as he started stroking my already hardening nipples, that was quickly forgotten. In fact, everything but his touch was forgotten.
"Please," I gasped out, not entirely sure what I was asking for. But Dimitri knew, and he wasted no time in giving it to me. His lips wrapped around one of my nipples, his fingers wreaking havoc on the other one. I arched my back and grinded my hips against his growing erection, an action which caused him to bite down on my nipple. Not that I cared, I was too desperate for some friction by that point and Dimitri was done playing.
With another growl, he flipped me beneath him, his lips trailing kisses down my chest and stomach. He knelt between my legs, a smirk being my only warning before he lowered his head and ripped my panties off. With his teeth. And before I even had the time to react to the pure deliciousness of that sight, he had latched onto my clit. My hips lifted off the bed as I cried out, but Dimitri was having none of it. He gripped my thighs and spread them wider, then he held my hips down and proceeded to feast on me like he was a starving man.
And when his fingers joined the mix, all I could do was grab hold of his hair and just hold on, that pressure building with every thrust of his fingers and with every hard flick of his tongue. And yet when my orgasm hit, I let loose with a scream both of pleasure and surprise. Dimitri gave me no time to recover from that, no time to even start to come down from that high before he was slamming into me.
There was nothing gentle about his thrusts, but I can't say I minded. There was something about seeing him like this, the man whose self-control had always been better than mine lose all control. There was something intensely erotic about seeing that passion and lust in his eyes, about feeling him pounding into me so freely, so fiercely that I could feel every delicious inch of his cock sliding in and out of my wet heat. And perhaps most intoxicating of all was the fact that I was the one doing this to him. My own body reacted to his, my hips slamming up to meet him thrust for thrust, my hands tangling in his hair and legs wrapping around him to pull him closer, drive him deeper.
And like always, he gave me exactly what I wanted and so much more. Dimitri had been true to his word about making me lose control, but as he drove into me, I knew I had just about the same effect on him. Our bodies moved together in that way they often did, so in synced that it was hard to tell where he ended and I began. And when we at last reached our climax, we got there together. It was mind blowing, toe curling, body shaking pleasure. Stars exploded in front of me, my entire body feeling like it was floating on a cloud of pure bliss. I said Dimitri's name as that cloud of pleasure swept me up, both profanity and prayer. And he was doing the same, some Russian words I didn't understand thrown in the mix as he helped me ride out the orgasm, each thrust of his hips taking me to new, dizzying heights.
"Holy shit," I said when I could finally breathe again. Dimitri chuckled and kissed my head which rested on his chest. Our arms were wrapped around each other and I was again hit with the utter completion I felt with this man.
"I love you," He said and I could hear the smile in his voice.
"I love you too," I said a smile of my own sliding onto my face. I wanted to stay here forever, just wrapped up in his arms and all things him, but alas Dimitri reminded me that we did in fact have somewhere to be. So, grudgingly, we got up and headed in for a shower.
"Wow, Rose," Lissa said opening the door for us 30 minutes later. "You're practically glowing. You both are actually."
"I don't know what you're talking about, Liss," I said even though I did know what she meant. It was hard not to know, the look she was shooting us both made me want to blush as well as to hit her. I knew she wasn't just looking at our faces. She was also looking at our auras, the field of light which surrounded every living thing. If the mischievous twinkle in her eyes were anything to go by, she knew exactly what Dimitri and I had been up to. Not that I was surprised, I'd been told that my aura shone whenever I was around Dimitri, I could only imagine what it looked like after sex.
Even Dimitri looked like he might blush, so I was a little surprised when he said: "Are you going to let us in, your majesty?" This at least snapped Lissa out from her study of our faces and auras and she rolled her eyes.
"Ugh, Dimitri, you know better." She said stepping aside so we could enter. Two things happened the instant we stepped inside. Delicious scents assaulted my nose and Lissa's cat Belle hissed at me. I rolled my eyes and gave her a wide birth.
I didn't like her anymore than she liked me, no matter how adorable she was. And she was adorable, with white fur that looked silky soft and pretty blue eyes, and she was always ready to cuddle. Even though animals didn't really like dhampirs, Belle was different. She liked all of them but me, something she proved when she went over to Dimitri. Lissa said it was probably because she could sense whatever mark still lingered even though the bond had been broken. I wasn't so sure and just thought animals just didn't like me.
Leaving Dimitri to his cat petting, I followed my nose to the kitchen. Unsurprisingly, Christian was in there taking something out of the oven. He looked up as I entered. "Hey Rosie. Happy Thanksgiving."
"Don't call me that," I said. "And same to you. I don't suppose you need help with those?" I asked, pointing to the tray he'd just set on the counter.
"No," He said rolling his eyes. "They're fine. But if you want to help, you can chop these." He set some vegetables on the counter for me as Lissa and Dimitri entered.
"Want a drink, Rose?" Lissa asked going over to the fridge. I turned to look at her.
"Depends," I said when she lifted a brow. "On what exactly you're offering." With Lissa, you never really knew. Even though she didn't drink often, she always seemed to have all kinds of Liquor on hand. Probably because she was so used to entertaining Adrian, or maybe just maybe she kept it on hand in case she needed to take spirit's edge off.
As it turned out, what she was offering was Malibu, a coconut rum found somewhere in the Caribbean. I had no idea where she'd even gotten that stuff, or why she was even drinking to begin with, but I simply nodded. After the week we'd just had, one which consisted of council stuff seeing as how Lissa was back at court for this week due to Thanksgiving break and trying to study-finals were just around the corner, I could give her this.
At first, I thought she was drinking it on the rocks. Something I wasn't so sure I wanted to do-that stuff could be pretty strong, but I felt a little better when I saw her pour some pineapple juice into my glass. And ok, I couldn't deny that this was certainly better than the pre-Thanksgiving feast we'd had to have a couple days ago. That one had consisted of a lot of royals and royal talk and the finest wine. Lissa looked at Christian and Dimitri who shook their heads.
"Oh, come on you guys," I said taking a sip of my drink. "How often do we get to do this? Besides, it's a holiday." I wasn't sure whether it was my words or Lissa's pout, but something convinced the guys. Maybe it was both. They had both been around this week, both had watched Lissa and me by default work our butts off. I think they understood that today we just wanted to relax and, our men were whipped enough that they would do whatever it took to make that happen.
So, once the turkey went into the oven, we went into the living room. Someone, probably Christian turned on the game, but nobody was really paying attention. Mia and my parents showed up after a while, and I couldn't help but miss the rest of our friends. I'd tried to persuade Lissa to let them come home for the holiday, but she'd disagreed reminding me of the reason we'd sent them away in the first place. As important as I knew their work in Palm Springs was, our little group felt incomplete without them. Not only that, but I knew Jill would have loved it if she could've seen her mom.
"Do you all smell that?" My mother asked suddenly snapping me out of my own head. I was about to ask what she was talking about, but I caught the smell a few moments before the smoke alarm started blaring.
"Christian," Lissa said startling the cat who jumped out of her lap. "You forgot the turkey!" She was right I realized and her exclamation snapped Christian into action. He ran off to the kitchen Dimitri hot on his heels.
It was probably not that funny, but I was tipsy if not half drunk. So, to me, it was hilarious. My giggles sent Lissa into her own fit of giggles and it wasn't long before everyone was joining in. I clutched my stomach, only laughing harder as I thought of Christian's face when Lissa had reminded him of the turkey.
Luckily, and possibly thanks only to Christian's fire magic, the damage wasn't too bad. Oh, the turkey was definitely burnt, but as we sat down to eat, we realized it was still edible.
"Oh, come on, dad, we're starving!" Lissa had given the responsibility of carving the turkey to my father and as could be imagined, he was taking his sweet time doing it. And of course, he was being as flashy as he could possibly be.
"Ah little girl," He said. "Patients isn't something Belikov has ever succeeded in teaching you is it?"
"No," I said seriously. "And if he can't do it, nobody could so hurry up old man." From beside me Dimitri rolled his eyes, but my father set some turkey on my plate and that ended the conversation. Or it did, until Lissa insisted we all find one thing to be thankful for.
"That's easy," I said and gestured around me. "You guys, this right here. A couple months ago, this all didn't seem possible for me. But now I'm here with all of you and she's queen and there's amazing food on my plate, so yes I'm thankful." That last part earned me some chuckles and we continued going around the table, but I kind of tuned it out without meaning to.
I turned my head to look at Dimitri. He was already looking at me, and as always, I got trapped in his eyes. They were warm and soft and chocolatey, full of so much love it made my chest hurt. And I realized something else. I'd meant what I'd said about being grateful for where I was and what we had, but the one thing I was most grateful for was this. It was him.
From the student teacher forbidden romance to the mentor turned undead vampire to love fades mine has; we had been through so much to get to this point. There had been a time I was convinced we probably weren't ever going to be here. And that was why, I realized. I was most grateful for him because we had beaten the odds. We had survived and endured so much and, in the end, we'd ended up together. I'd gotten my fairytale ending.
He truly was my other half, the one person in this world who understood me completely, even the parts of me that I myself did not understand. He loved me as I was, his love my greatest strength and weakness and in his arms, I was home. Even if I had to live the rest of my life on the run from my own people, I knew that if he were by my side, I still would have felt like I was home. So yes, I did have a lot to be grateful for this year, but none compared to the man who was gripping my hand in his as if he knew exactly what I was thinking about. And if the look in his eyes was anything to go by, I was sure he did.
Well, damn, I'm a little jealous of those two. Does anyone else share my jealousy? Anyway, guys I hope you liked this! Y'all know how to tell me. Drop me some reviews now and don't forget to let me know if there are any holiday prompts you want to see! Until next time my lovelies
