She awoke to the sunlight streaming into her room just as she did every day. Hopelessly tangled in her sheets after a long night of tossing and turning. For some reason though, she felt that everything had altered. Her dreams, for one, had never been so vivid. She used to just brush them aside, but now she remembered every last inch of them as if they were memories. Each one elevating her emotions to a higher place. A place that was full of hope and loneliness. A place that could never really grant her true wishes, only elaborate them so that she wanted them all the more.

Glancing over at the time, she groaned. She could have slept in, but it seems like fate just didn't want her to. She lay there trying to gather her thoughts when her eyes fell upon the picture He gave her the night before. He being the object of her affection. Oh, who was she kidding, she crossed the line of affection a long time ago and found it to be a point of no return. It was a picture of the Commander and herself after he had chosen to fight as the Shadow Ranger. They were both smiling and toasting the camera with a glass of Piggy's gutter water. She could still remember what it felt like as he had his arm draped over her shoulder to take the picture.

Sadly though his mind was often consumed with thoughts that were definitely not about her. She above all people knew this, after all she was his best friend. His thought's were still consumed by those of the wife he had lost so many years ago. Still, she couldn't help her feelings for him. His heart was loving and his body was dangerous, yet both worked in perfect harmony. She couldn't help but get caught between the two after so many years of close proximity. Yes, she was caught, and it hurt like hell.

All she was left with was wishing like a school girl that someday he would return her feelings. She would wish with every meteor that fell from the sky, with every candle or eyelash from her eye. She'd wish whenever she would close her eyes and dream of his kiss. A kiss that would never happen. Although she thought she had read something in his eyes the day the picture was taken, but she knew not to read anything into it. She had before and it had thrown her for a serious loop. She only ended up being hurt. So now she just keeps her feelings locked up and hidden with her small string of hope.

Sighing, she sat up in bed and brought the picture and frame closer so that she could study it. There were small, barely visible loops and lines that seemed to stand out from the paper the picture was printed on. Furrowing her brow, she removed the picture from it's frame and turned it over and read what was written there with tears streaking down her face.

Please don't ever leave me again.

Love forever, Doggie

She smiled as she traced the words with her thumb. Sometimes wishes can come true.
