"That is it, Inuyasha! I am done with you and this mess with Kikyou. So th..thanks for the good times." Kagome said, sobbing.
"Kags don't be like that" Inuyasha begged. The whole room had gone silent around them.
"Don't Kags me, you ass!" She screeched. She turned toward his apartment door. She had thought that he was so mature, having his own place even though they were still in highschool. This cheating incident had changed her mind.
His growl followed her, "Well don't bother to come back then!" She just stared at him with tears in her eyes. She grabbed her backpack, before storming out the apartment door, slamming it shut in her wake. A sad Miroku and an upset Sango stared after her.
"How were we supposed to help with that, Inuyasha?!" sarcasm dripped from Sango's tone. "She loved you, how could YOU?" Sango gave him a scathing look before moving to follow Kagome.
Miroku was trying to wrap his head around it. He let out a sigh. "Dude, you just fucked up." The friend group had come together this past year while doing a project for school. The pair had started dating shortly after Miroku and Sango had made it official.
While Kagome and Sango were in the same friend groups, they hadn't really hung out with their current boyfriends before the project that had brought them together. Unbeknownst to Kagome, Inuyasha hadn't completely broken things off with his long time on-again off-again girlfriend, Kikyou. She probably would never have known if Sango hadn't seen the pair together at last night's party. The whole junior class had been celebrating the end of the school year. Kagome had already left to make it home in time for her curfew.
Kagome had taken the train to the stop closest to the shrine. As she walked her thoughts were swirling. She had planned to finish highschool in Japan, before going to university abroad in the States. She was starting to question that thought.
Her father's company had been opening branches in the States for several years. And though he loved his wife, he was needed to work on the day to day with the new branches. So, Souten had left with a heavy heart. He came home every couple of months and called every night. The family would re-unite once the company was stable or Souta graduated from highschool. Whichever came first. It was usual for the family to take a trip to the States to be together during the summer holidays. Kagome was glad for the opportunity to be out of Inuyasha's direct sphere of influence. She continued to brood as she climbed the stairs of the shire, taking them two at a time.
Asumi immediately noticed Kagome's dark mood. "Kagome?" She questioned lightly. " Do you want to talk about it?"
Kagome worried her lip as tears gathered in her eyes. "Oh, mom!" She sobbed "Inuyasha, has been seeing another girl all this time! I thought we had a future together.." She grabbed at her mother for a bone crushing hug. Asumi held her oldest close, stroking her hair comfortingly, while humming tunelessly. Kagome continued to sob for a while longer.
"Kagome, I know it hurts now. But one day you'll look back on this and the hurt won't be so bad. I am so proud of you for knowing your worth, and walking away from him." Asumi did her best to comfort her teenager. Her mind wandered back to meeting her own Souten, and how she was sure he was definitely not the one for her. How she had cried to her own mother about how unfair the whole thing was.
Asumi and Souten had argued over whether or not to allow Kagome to date in the first place. Souten, being a father, wanted no male around Kagome regardless. Asumi asserted that Kagome needed space to figure out how to navigate a romantic relationship. Especially since once Kagome reached her majority, she was going to be given some bombshells. Again Asumi and Souten had butted heads about this. But their hands had been effectively tied. Asumi was startled from her comforting by Kagome's deep breath.
"Thanks, mom. I feel a little better. It helps knowing that we'll be leaving to see dad soon." She sighed. She had to help close up the house in the next few days as well as pack her own things.
The next few days passed in a flurry of sad music and packing. Kagome stared around her room. She had put a sheet over her bed, desk and small bookcase. She had made sure all of her laundry was cleaned, and put away. She had vacuumed and made sure her window was locked. She grabbed her suitcase and headed downstairs. The rest of the house was similarly prepared.
Kagome was already prepared for Inuyasha's continued attempts to get back in touch with her. For the summer she just wanted peace, so she had taken time to write him a letter. She knew that maybe she was taking the coward's way out, but she really didn't feel up to listening to him talk circles around her feelings, again. He had been to the shrine daily, at first apologetic, which turned to begging her back, and finally it soured into gruff determination that she should take him back. She was out of steam to deal with him anymore.
