Sorry
Sam sat on his bike and looked down the street. Since leaving Charming Chrissie's parents had set them up with a rented two bed house. Neither one of them could hide their disappointment that their daughter had got knocked up by a 'white trash biker', their words. But they were being good for the sake of their unborn grandchild. Just like he was doing.
Sam had left Charming because he wanted to be there for Chrissie and his child. But since coming to Tacoma he had found it really hard because all he could only think about Haley, however that changed with the scare.
He knew he had been an arsehole with Chrissie, he knew he was distant spending most of his time at the clubhouse but he didn't realise how that had been affecting her. But she had stopped eating, and he had missed it. It wasn't till she passed out in the clubhouse. She had come to bring him lunch, but the next thing he knew she was on the floor and bleeding.
Sam rushed her to the hospital and both Chrissie and the baby were okay but the Doctor told Sam that it was stress and that she was underweight. It was that moment that Sam decided he needed to focus on her. So any feeling that he had for Haley he put in a box and locked it away.
Weeks after the scare, Chrissie had been the one to mention marriage and Sam just wanting to make her happy keep her safe, be the farther his child needed. So before he knew it they were standing in city hall getting married.
He had to admit things were good between but then he got the message from Jax about Haley. She was hurt and suddenly those feeling that he had pushed down were back and he knew that he had to see her. Check she was okay, so he made his excuses to Chrissie and to the club and he packed his bag and headed to Charming.
He rode through the night and the first place he went to was her house.
"What are you doing here?" Haley couldn't believe that Sam was standing on her doorstep. She hadn't seen him since before graduation.
Sam was busy taking in Haley, noting her injures, to notice Jax appear over her shoulder, well that was until he spoke.
"Sammy..."
Both he and Haley looked back at Jax, who looked just as shocked as Haley did at seeing him standing on the doorstep. Sam was not shocked to see Jax though, of course he would be here.
"Hey Jax."
"What are you doing here?" Jax spoke repeating Haley's question, as he moved to stand by Haley.
"Good to see you too brother." Realising the awkwardness Jax stepped forward and pulled his younger brother into a hug. Sam embraced him back and they were both reminded that it had been a long times since they had seen one another.
Haley felt her chest tighten watching the two brothers exchange a hug after what had just happened between her and Jax she felt guilty. That was until Sam spoke again.
"I've come to see Hales..." Sam spoke as he broke away from Jax, he looked back at Haley. "Can we talk?"
He watched as Haley looked to Jax who was standing next to her and then back at him. She look flustered and he guessed he couldn't blame her. But it was throwing him off seeing Jax and Haley together.
Haley could feel both of the brothers looking at her, and all she could do was look at Sam.
He looked different, his hair was shorter, he looked like he had been working out a lot but the main difference she noticed was the wedding band on his finger. When he left her she had so many questions but she had no way to ask them. So Sam being on her doorstep Haley finally felt like that she might get the answers she's been waiting for.
Haley looked up towards Jax. "Can you give us..."
"Sure." Jax snapped cutting her off.
Jax knew what she was going to ask. She wanted to speak to Sam alone. Jax was mature enough to understand why she wanted to talk to Sam but he would be lying if it didn't hurt a little given whart they had been doing two minutes prior to Sam arriving. But this was Haley's choice. He gently rubbed her arm and headed out, stopping for a moment beside Sam.
"You better see Gemma." Sam smirked.
"Yeah I will." Both brothers knew that if Sam left without seeing their Mother, it really wouldn't be worth it. Clapping his hand on his brothers shoulder Jax walked towards his bike. He took one last look back at Haley just as Sam stepped inside. Haley spared him one last look before she too disappeared inside.
Haley watched as Sam took a seat on the couch, she followed and took the chair across from him. She had been thinking about this moment since he left but now she was coming up blank. She just sat there watching him waiting for him to speak when finally did.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Even Haley was surprised buy her sharpness. "Why are you here Sam, why now?"
"I heard you were hurt, I needed to see you Hales. I miss you."
Haley shook her head. She had wanted to hear those words so many times, she had wanted to see him so many times even after he abandoned her at the streams. She knew that most people would think that she was weak for that but she still loved him and she missed him but it was different now. He was married and Haley had decided that she needed to move on from Sam. So his words were a little to late. And they were also unfair.
"You can't say that to me Sam." Her voice was softer but the hurt was there. "You left me Sam. I was waiting for you, I was going to give myself to you that night Sam, but you just left me there. Do you know how much that hurt me ." Haley tried to stop her tears but she couldn't.
Sam moved from his seat and knelt in front of Haley. His hand taking hers as he wiped at her tears. "I am sorry for hurting you Hales, I just couldn't say goodbye to you. I didn't know how to. Trust me if I could turn back time and change it I would."
She pulled her hand away from his. "But you can't Sam. I mean what are you doing here? Does Chrissie even know that you are here?" Sam ran a hand over his face as he sat back on the coffee table behind him. And that told Haley that Chrissie didn't know.
"Look me and Chrissie, I care for her a lot, love her maybe even but..."
"But nothing. You're married Sammy, your having a baby with her. Whatever we had it's over. And it breaks my heart to say that. But you did that, you broke me Sam. You should have just talked to me . I loved you." Haley wiped at the tear that had fallen.
This was hard because she did still care for him. But someone who she never thought would hurt her, did. And Haley had to pick herself and rebuild her broken heart and to do that Haley had changed, she had grown up. She wasn't the girl who he left behind.
"I think you should leave Sam."
As she started walking towards the door, Sam came up behind her lightly catching her elbow. Haley turned to face him and as she did Sam crashed his lips onto hers. Haley was taken aback by the action. The kiss was soft, gentle but it was wrong and Haley quickly pushed him away.
"What are you doing Sam."
"I'm sorry Haley. Sorry for hurting you." He dropped another kiss but this time on her cheek.
Haley watched him leave. As soon as he was gone she closed the door and dropped to the floor and cried.
After leaving, Jax headed to the clubhouse, he went straight to the garage pulled on his shirt and got stuck into the backlog of work in the garage. Of course he was happy to see his brother but it couldn't have come at a worse time. He had just kissed Haley, hoping that all of his unanswered questions would be answered but now he had more.
He had been solidly for 3 hours ignoring anyone who tried to speak to him. Well that was until his mother called. Family dinner...Sam had obviously found his way home. But Jax was more concerned about what had happened between between him and Haley.
Sam sat at the table as Gemma knocked together some lunch. When he had walked through the door Gemma had hugged him but it was quickly followed by a slap. Gemma confirming that it was for getting married behind her back. He knew he deserved that. But even with the slap he had missed her, he had missed his home his family so he was enjoying just sitting there watching her cook. God he missed her cooking, Chrissie wasn't exactly handy in the kitchen.
Gemma was pissed. She was glad to see her son but Gemma knew exactly why he was here, it was too much of a coincidence.
After the initial welcome home Sam excused himself telling her he needed to wash the road off of him and get some shut eye. She didn't push him instead she called Clay. He confirmed that Sam wasn't here for club business. So wanting to get answers Gemma did what she did best, she organised a family dinner. Attendance mandatory.
She had been cooking most of the afternoon, before Sam made an appearance again. He took a seat at the table.
She guessed now was her time. "You sleep okay baby?" She asked casually as she pulled the bread out of the stove.
"Yeah. Really good actually. Needed it before I head back."
"You heading back tonight?"
"Yeah."
Gemma stopped busying herself with the food and walked over to the table to take a seat across from her son.
"So why are you here? And don't say Club business." Sam nodded with a smile, his mother was to smart.
"You know why.. Just needed to check she was okay."
"You sure that all it is?"
"Ma."
"You have different responsibilities now you made your choice."
"I know. She basically said the same thing." Gemma was surprised in hearing that.
"Well I suppose at least one of you are talking sense."
"Yeah, seems she would be strong enough to be an Old Lady."
Sam remembered his mother asking the question if he saw her as his Old Lady. He couldn't answer because he really didn't know, but seeing her today, she was different, stronger.
There conversation went no further with the approaching sound of bikes. Clay and Jax.
Jax tried to to include himself in the conversation but all he really wanted to know about was Haley. But his brother and everyone else around the table were ignoring the fact of the real reason he was here and with Gemma looking at him he knew that he couldn't ask the questions he wanted to.
So Jax just tried to survive the meal and when he noticed that everyone else was finished he was about to make his excuses to leave when Gemma spoke.
"Jackson, help me with the plates."
Doing as his told because Gemma's wrath was not worth it, Jax started collecting the plates and followed Gemma into the kitchen.
"Did you know he came here for Haley?" Jax smirked his mother ever so subtle.
"Yeah. I was there." He spoke turning to face her. She moved closer to him. Grabbing his arm.
"What are you doing Jackson?"
"This isn't your business Mom."
"If it involves my sons it's my business." Gemma snapped her hand still holding onto Jax's arms.
"Everything okay here?" Both turned to look at Sam.
"Yeah we're good." Jax answered pulling himself free of his mother.
"Well im heading out." Sam spoke.
Gemma walked over and embraced her youngest. "You ride safe baby."
"Will do Ma." Gemma hugged him tightly.
"I'll walk you out." Jax spoke. He dropped a kiss on Gemma's cheek before walking out with Sam.
Gemma felt strong arms wrap around her. "Do I need to be worried about that?" Gemma heard Clay's words loud and clear.
"I don't know."
Jax and Sam walked towards their bikes both grabbing their helmets from the handle bars.
"Are you going to ask?"
"What's that?" Jax asked.
"Me and Haley..." Sam watched Jax falter for the slightest of seconds.
Sam hadn't been surprised to see Jax at Haley's. Before they went public he remembered the time when they went for a picnic he asked Haley how she felt, concerned that his brother likeed her. Haley had brushed it off but seeing her and Jax together today it stirred something in Sam.
"I still care for her Jax."
"I know you do."
