Inuyasha,
By the time you get this letter I will be on my way to my family home in the States. Please do not try to contact me. I don't want to be together anymore. I need space. We can try to be civil when I return.
Kagome Higurashi
Kagome placed the letter and a package in the post box on their way to the train station. Her mom, and Souta were a few paces ahead of her. The package she had dropped in was the mixed cd he had made her. She would always love those songs, but she didn't want anything of his anymore.
The family boarded the train to the airport. The flight was a long one, almost 12 hours in total. Her music was her constant companion. She was grateful she had thought to load it all on her ipod ahead of time. Even though it was a struggle not to sing out loud to her favorites.
.
She started to think of Inuyasha, brooding again. And even though they dated for a little while, she realized that they had only kissed once or twice. It was kind of uninspiring compared to Sango's escapades with Miroku. Sango always described their fun in such a sizzling way. She and Inuyasha, by comparison had been more like awkward close friends trying to make romance out of platonic love, at least from her perspective. Perhaps this summer was her chance to find a little bit of trouble, as Sango liked to put it.
Inuyasha got the letter a few days later. He was to the point of freaking out. He hadn't expected her to completely cut him off like this. He had gone to the shrine, to find it empty. He left voicemails on their landline, and any emails he sent her were coming back with an error message. She had known he wasn't allowed to go back to the States, until he completed his education. He wished he hadn't told her. But Kagome was so easy to talk to, and empathetic toward his predicaments. Kagome was the only person besides his mom that he felt really understood him. Not to mention how calming her scent was. Sure, Kikyo liked his attention, and she was fun to party with, but she only wanted him for his family's money. Kagome didn't even know what he would inherit. Kikyo talked about his money and 'their' future constantly, regardless of the fact that he wouldn't inherit anything for another eight years!
'Kikyou does though… that's the only reason she's still around. She didn't want to hang out until I let the inheritance stuff slip' he thought mournfully, ears flattening
He put the CD into the stereo and listened. It was the familiar mix he had made for her, All American Rejects, Fall out Boy, and My Chemical Romance. At the beginning, Kagome had thought it too depressing, but the more they drove around listening to it, the more she had grown to like it. It hurt him that she would return the only gift he had been allowed to give her.
"Kami, Kagome. What have I done?" He wondered out loud. His ears were so close to his head they were practically glued down.
