Confession
Jax opened the door to his dorm and frowned when he saw Haley packing up her things.
"You planning on going somewhere?" He watched as she stopped packing and looked at him.
"The Hospital called, my Dad is getting released today."
It had been 3 days since her Dad had woken up and Haley had been there every minute that she could. Clay had been good and agreed to have the prospect sit on her while she was at the hospital. When business had been handled Jax would always takeover from Juice which again Clay had agreed with but seeing her packing was a surprise.
"I can't stay here. My Dad would kill me if he knew I had been staying here. You know that." Jax walked over to her gently capturing her wrist stopping her from packing.
"You can't leave it's not safe."
Steve had come through and he was meeting Darby and his guys tomorrow night so until then the danger was still out there and the best way he could protect her was to keep her at the Clubhouse.
"Jax...My Dad will not come here you know that. Plus he doe..." Haley paused pulling her wrist free. Jax looked over his shoulder to where Haley was now looking. He saw Clay standing in the doorway.
"Kids right. Daniel will not step foot in here if our last conversation was anything to go by."
Clay and Jax remembered only to well Daniel's rage when Sam had left Haley. He had basically banned them from seeing his daughter. Jax of course had ignored the warning and pursued Haley.
Haley had mentioned that her Dad asked why he had been there. Haley had made the excuse that Tellers had been checking on her during the his time in Hospital. She said he accepted it but he wasn't happy about it.
"Clay they are not safe."
"Juice can watch both them."
"Thank you Clay." Jax looked down back at Haley.
"You let me know when you are ready sweetheart." And with that Clay left the two alone.
Jax watched as Haley went back to her packing. She seemed off and it worried him. Closing the door for privacy Jax walked up behind Haley and wrapped his arms around her.
"You okay?"
"Yeah."
"Liar." She turned in his arms so that they were facing one another "What's wrong?"
"My Dad. He's just so disappointed in me about college, I just don't know how he will be when I tell him about us ." Jax rubbed his thumb over cheek catching her fallen tears.
"Your Dad could never be disappointed in you." He watched her nod but he could tell that she didn't believe him. And he wondered if it was something else. "Hales if you don't want..."
Leaning onto her tiptoes she cut Jax's word off with a kiss, which he quickly returned. Breaking the kiss and landing back on her feet "I told you I was in. I just don't know how to tell him, probably just like you don't know what you are going to say to Sam."
"Yeah." And he would be lying if he hadn't spent hours thinking about the impending conversation with Sam.
"We're going to hurt a lot of people."
"Yeah." His hands cupped her face "But if that's what its takes I don't care. I want you Haley."
"You have me."
"I hate that you are not going to be here where I can keep you safe at night." Haley smiled at him.
"I'm going to miss sleeping beside you too." Knowing what Jax was really getting at. And with that he kissed her.
Haley washed the dishes. She had finally got him to sleep. The medication the doctors provided helping because even though he wouldn't admit it he was in a lot of pain. She hated seeing her Dad so weak it brought back memories of her Mom but she needed to be strong.
Haley was also finding it hard to have spent her first proper night away from Jax. They had messaged but it wasn't the same. She missed him. Haley looked out at the window and saw Juice parked in a truck across the road. He had been there since they arrived back at the house. She kind of felt a little bad for him.
Feeling tired and ready to get to bed herself Haley grabbed the trash and headed to the bins at the back of the house but when she opened the door to the back of the house she came to an abrupt stop
The plan had gone wrong. Darby's guys had turned up but something had spooked them. Before the exchange could take place they had drove off. Jax was furious with Steve as he knew the idiot must have done something but he couldn't get those answers right now because they needed to find Darby, so they took off after them but the van Darby's guys were driving veered off the road. Before the sons could reach the van it exploded it flames meaning that their lead for finding Darby was dead. Literally.
"What are you doing here?"
"I need you to tell him that this wasn't my fault. They already knew." Haley tried to keep the distance between but herself and Steve but he just kept advancing on her. He looked strung out. "You need to call him now. He'll kill me, you need to tell him I didn't mean it."
"Call who?" Haley asked feeling nervous.
"Jax. You need to call Jax."
Jax was beyond pissed that the plan had gone wrong, they had lost their lead and then he had received a call from Haley. She sounded off so he headed there straight away. Pulling up he saw that Juice was in the van watching the house, he went over to him.
"Hey Jax."
"Everything been okay here?"
"Yeah. Think she's gone to bed."
"She just called me."
"You think something is wrong."
"Nah. Look why don't you take off. I'll take the night shift." Juice smirked but when he saw Jax's stern look he soon wiped the smile off his face.
Haley tried to keep calm but being this close to Steve was bringing back the memory of the accident.
"Does it hurt?" He words bringing her out of her thoughts. She looked down at the wrist that he was pointing to. All Haley could do was nod. But when he went to reach out and touch her Haley instantly took a step back which caused her to hit the counter and it was then that she realised that she had no where to go. So when he advanced towards her again Haley couldn't move anywhere but before Steve could reach out and touch her he was pulled away and thrown across the room.
"Jax..."
"You don't touch her." Jax growled looking down at Steve.
"Look...I'm sorry. I'm sorry Haley..."
"YOU DON'T LOOK AT HER." Watching as Steve tried to look behind him at Haley aggravated him more.
"I'm sorry." Steve started to sob at this point. "Please don't kill me."
Jax lent down and grabbed Steve pulling him to his feet. He slammed him against the fridge. He heard Haley gasp but all of their attention was captured by someone else.
"ENOUGH"
Daniel Parker had been sleeping when he heard the crash downstairs. His instinct was always to protect his daughter but he was weak, however it didn't stop him from grabbing the baseball bat from under his bed, although be it slowly. But when he arrived at a scene seeing Jackson Teller pinning Steve Miller against his fridge and his daughter looking scared he was confused.
"You son need to leave." He pointed the bat at Steve. "Before I start swinging."
Jax released his hold on Steve, but not before slamming into the fridge one last time. Jax was seething and he was trying to steady his breathing but as he watched him leave through the back door his eyes caught Haley's. She looked scared. He instincts were to go to her but before he could reach her he stopped.
"Does someone want to explain what is happening here?" Both Haley and Jax turned to look at Daniel.
"Dad."
"The truth Haley."
Haley removed herself from the counter that she had been pinned against in fear. "I don't know." She looked to Jax, because she really didn't understand why Steve had been here.
Jax looked between Haley and Daniel. He had to tell the truth. "The club needed him. But he shouldn't have come here."
"But he did." Daniel knew that this had to be club related, this was why he didn't want Haley around any of this it was to dangerous. But watching the two of them stand in front of him just like at the hospital he feared that there was another danger. There was something happening between them.
"Haley go upstairs."
"Dad..."
"Haley now I need to speak to Jackson."
He watched as she spared a glance at Jax before she walked passed him to head upstairs.
Jax watched as Daniel took a seat at the kitchen table, he motioned for Jax to join him which he did. "I need you to tell me the truth here Jackson."
"Of course."
"Is my daughter in danger?"
"There is a threat to the club. I believe that your attack and the fire was a message to the club. When you got taken into the hospital I was worried for Haley so I... I took Haley to the clubhouse so I could protect her. She has been staying there." Daniel ran a hand over his face. "When you woke up and got realised Haley was insistent that she needed to be home with you."
"But the threat is still out there?"
"Yes. I have someone watching you both. He'll be outside at all times. I'll be taking the night shift tonight." Jax watched as Daniel just nodded. "Mr Parker, trust me when I tell you her safety means everything to me. I would never hurt her or let her get hurt."
"Is this why she isn't at UCLA." Jax shook his head.
"No, it's because she didn't want to leave you."
"That kids got a big heart."
"Yeah she does." Daniel watched the smile spread across Jax's face.
"Are you interested in my daughter?"
"I really care for Haley and I think she feels the same." Daniel shook his head, he felt angry hearing Jax admit that and also that she had been staying at the clubhouse the one place he did not want her to be.
"She's just 17." Jax nodded.
"I know."
"Your 21."
"I know. I would really like your permission to date your daughter."
"No."
"Look I know what you must be thinking here, but trust me I tried to deny my feelings for her but I couldn't and knowing that she had the same feelings..."
"Your brother wanted something similar and he hurt my baby girl."
"I know."
"Speaking of Sam..."
"I am going to travel to Tacoma once the threat has gone." Daniel could see the pain in Jax's face.
"You'd be willing to lose your brother for her?" Daniel knew it was a hard question but he needed to know and as he watched Jax give a slight nod Daniel realised something. "You love her."
"I do."
Jax watched as Daniel got to his feet. "If you are going to stay here all night you might as well stay in the house. On the couch." Jax smirked at the last comment.
"Course."
Haley sat on her bed wiping away her tears when she heard her door open. When she saw her Dad she quickly looked away but she felt him take a seat on her bed.
"It's times like these I really wish your mother was here. Something tells me she could handle these situations a lot better." Daniel reached out and placed a hand on her knee causing her to finally look at him. She had been crying.
"I miss her too."
"Yeah. And I bet she would know what to say to the man downstairs who has just professed his love for our daughter."
"He said he loved me?"
"Yeah he did." He took Haley's hand. "It's really hard because the protective Dad part of me wants to just lock you up in this room and not let you out till your like 40. But the other part of me who just wants my daughter to happy can see that you care for him too. So what do I do here. He's older Haley."
"I know."
"His family are involved in things that I don't want you to be a part of."
"I know."
"But he's willing to lose his brother for you. Do you know that?" Haley nodded. "Haley are you sure you are ready for that fall out?"
"I love him Dad."
"You loved Sam sweetheart."
"I know but this is different. I can't explain it but I have never felt like this. I know that you don't approve but I really want to be with him."
"All I want is for you to be happy and safe. But it scares me Haley."
"Jax would never hurt me."
"He said the same thing."
Daniel was really conflicted but he could see that looking at both of them today that in their eyes they really did care about the each, it was something that he never quite saw with Sam. The heartbreak that Sam had caused Haley had changed her. He had watched her grow into a strong woman during these last few months and he knew that if he tried to stop this he would not succeed.
He lent forward and dropped a kiss on her forehead. "You remind me so much of your mother. And I think right now she would tell me to trust you. So I'm trusting you Haley. I always trust you. Just don't make me regret it."
"I love you Daddy."
"I love too kiddo."
Haley pushed open the door to her Dad's bedroom. He was sleeping and Haley smiled as he looked so peaceful.
Wrapping her cardigan around her small frame Haley headed downstairs but stopped when she saw Jax sitting on her couch.
"Jax, what are you doing here?" She watched as he jumped to his feet and turned to face her.
"Your Dad said I could spend the night on the couch, as I was going to spend it in the truck outside anyway." She nodded. "You okay?"
"Just needed some water." She spoke quietly as she continued her way down the stairs and into the kitchen.
Haley grabbed a glass and turned on the water. She watched Jax's reflection in the window as he approached her. Turning off the water she took a sip, as his arms come to rest either side of her. She felt his warm breath on her neck.
"I'm sorry Steve turned up here." Jax watched as Haley turned around so they were facing each other. "I know that must have been hard."
"Your using him to help you."
"Yes."
"But he said it went wrong. Is the threat still out there. Are me and my dad still in danger?"
"I will protect you and your Dad." He watched as Haley looked down at her glass of water. But he reached his finger under her chin making her look at him.
"My dad is giving us his blessing. He thinks you love me.
"I do love you Haley Parker."
"That's good because I love you too Jackson Teller." And with that kissed her.
