First Loves

Haley placed her hands under the cold water before leaning forward and splashing her face with the water. She grabbed the towel next to her and buried her face into it taking a moment in the darkness. As she pulled the towel away Haley found herself staring at her reflection and all she wanted to do was cry but she knew she couldn't.

She was about to head back into her bedroom when she saw Aaron in the mirror. She gave him a tight lipped smile, before he came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her.

"That was amazing." He spoke before placing kisses up her neck. Haley just nodded. "I love you." Aaron spoke between kisses.

"Me too." She spoke but the truth was after tonight she knew she didn't, she couldn't.

"So when am I seeing my grandbaby?" Gemma asked before taking a sip of her coffee.

"Ask Jax."

"Seriously, I said I'm sorry."

Sam just shook his head. Even though Chrissie was agreeing to a weekend in Charming Sam was pissed that his time with his daughter had be cut short and he was pissed that it was because of Jax.

"Samuel your brother was just trying to protect our own." Gemma snapped.

"Like I don't." Sam retorted

Before anyone could say anything else Sam's cell started to ring and as he looked down at the ID he knew he had to take this call. Pushing away from the table he disappeared down the hallway.

"You did the right thing." Gemma spoke before taking another sip on her coffee.

"Maybe."

"You we're protecting family." Gemma stated.

"But I was wrong."

"But what if you were right." Gemma reached out placed her hand on top of Jax's. "You doing okay Baby?"

"Yeah Ma, I'm good."

Gemma removed her hand and placed it back around her coffee mug as Jax got to his feet before placing a kiss on top of her head. She watched him leave.

Clay had told her about Haley being in town which is why he had sent him to Tacoma, to keep her son from seeing her and Gemma was grateful. They were being civil to Daniel Parker at the request of Jax but Gemma hadn't forgiven him nor Haley for their part in getting her son arrested.

Gemma was brought from her thoughts as Sam returned to the room.

"Jax gone?" He asked noticing his absence.

"Yeah. Sam..."

"Mom, I don't want to hear it, I'm sick of Jax putting himself in places he's not needed."

"He thought..."

"I CAN PROTECT MY OWN DAUGHTER." Sam shouted shocking Gemma. But that was when he noticed that he had changed his clothes and it looked like he was about to leave.

"You going somewhere?"

"Yeah."

"You going to tell me where?" Sam never answered. "Who was on the phone?"

Sam walked over to his mother. He couldn't tell her and he didn't want to either. "Bye Mom."

Gemma received another kiss from a son this time on her cheek before watching another one of her sons leave.

It was a short ride really and although he was glad to receive the call he was surprised. He pulled up at this little coffee shop and he saw her sat outside, he smiled at the sight of her. Walking towards her he watched her get to her feet when she noticed him and when he was close enough Haley hugged him tightly. Sam got a sense that something was wrong. When he felt her hold ease he pulled and looked at her.

"You okay?"

"Yeah." She motioned to the table and they both took a seat.

Haley made small talk as they ordered and as they made their way through their brunch. Sam indulged the conversation but as the waitress collected their empty plates and offered the bill, which Sam paid, he knew that this little get together was about to come to an end.

"So Parker as nice as this was are you gonna tell me why you really called me?" Sam asked bluntly.

Haley tucked her out of tame curls behind of her ear as she looked over the street. Truth was she called him because she needed to see a familiar face.

"I just wanted to see you."

"Not buying it something's up."

Haley should have known that she couldn't get a lot past Sam. They had been best friends since she was born. She loved him, her love even developed to a greater kind of love at some point. Sam was familiar he was home and that was exactly what she needed right now.

"I'm fine Sam honestly. I just missed my best friend."

"Hales."

"Sam..." Before Haley could continue her phone rang and she quickly looked at the ID and cancelled the call.

"Okay that's the fifth call you avoided since we've been here."

"It's just my college advisor." Sam didn't miss the fact that she wasn't looking at him. "I'm sorry I need to go Sam." Haley spoke getting to feet.

"Haley" Sam was now on his feet too and he stepped into her path. "Is this about Jax?" She shook her head, although that was a lie.

"Look I have a class. I'm going to be late. Thank you for today I needed it." She gave him a hug and then she was gone.

Sam watched as she jogged across the street and hopped into her car. Something was off with her and he was worried.

Jax looked up from under the hood of the car he was working on as he heard the rumble of a bike approaching. It was Sam. As he dismounted his bike Jax watched Sam approach and he prepared himself to get into it again as his younger brother came to stand in front him.

"Sammy..."

"You spoken to Haley recently?" Jax was surprised by the question and also by the anger. He looked around feeling eyes on him and he was right when he saw Opie, Tig and Kyle looking at him. He grabbed hold of Sam and ushered him into office, he was glad Sam didn't fight him.

"What's this about?" Jax snapped shoving his brother into the office.

"She was home, before we went to Tacoma."

"I know."

"So you saw her?" Sam questioned.

"Yeah." Jax admitted. Sam seemed pissed and the fact he was asking about Haley stirred concern in Jax.

On the ride back to Charming Sam's mind was going overboard. He knew something was wrong with Haley and now knowing that he had seen her spoken to her it made Sam concerned. "You threaten her or something?" Sam questioned closing the gap between himself and his brother.

"What? NO!" Jax was pissed at the accusation.

"Just stay away from her Jax." Sam snapped pointing his finger in his brothers face before going to walk away. He only stopped when Jax grabbed him.

"You can't tell me what to do."

"Well that didn't seem to matter when you warned me to stay away from her." Sam quipped pushing his brother off of him causing him to hit the desk behind him.

As Tig entered the office hearing the smash he saw Jax push away from the desk. Tig grabbed hold of Jax stopping him before he could retaliate at Sam.

"Come on. Thought you guys dealt with that shit already."

"He started it." Jax seethed.

"Whatever man." Sam turned his back on both of them and stormed out of the office.

Tig looked back at Jax. "Need your head in the game, not fighting a brother over pussy."

"Watch your mouth."

"Club is your first priority." Tig warned

"I know that." Jax went to leave just like his brother but Tig stepped into his path.

"You sure."

"Get out my way." The two just stared at on another before Tig stepped aside.

Tig watched him walk away. "That about the Parker girl?" Tig looked over to see Kyle standing in the doorway.

"Yeah."

"Clay's gonna be pissed that shit's startin up again." Tig closed the gap between himself and Kyle.

"Clay don't need to know."

"What you thinking?" Tig smiled at Kyle it was the smile the creepy smile.

"Don't worry brother I've got this."

Haley sat on the chair in the corner of her bedroom as she stared at her bed. She had lied to Sam today. She didn't have a class and it wasn't her college advisor calling her, but she just needed to leave that conversation. She had reached out to Sam because she just needed to see a familiar face and it had been good until the end.

Haley never wanted to hurt anyone but she knew the damage she had caused when she made the decision to sleep with Jax, it ruined everything. She hurt everyone which is why she had been keeping her distance from Charming but today she had been selfish and she reached out to Sam but when he asked her about Jax she knew that calling Sam was a mistake.

And now she didn't know what to do. But she couldn't stay in her flat.

Getting up Haley grabbed her duffel bag and started pulling some clothes from her drawers and dumping them in the bag. She went into her bathroom and grabbed what she needed. Zipping up the bag she headed to the door only to stop when she opened it.

"I've been calling you."

"I um..."

"You going somewhere?" Aaron asked noticing her bag.

"I need to leave for a few days."

"Is everything okay?" He asked placing a hand on her but he was surprised when she pulled back. "Haley? Is this about last night?" Haley shook her head

"No, I just, I just need to take off for a couple days. Family thing I promise."

She was happy when he seemed to accept her answer. "Can I drive you?" She shook her head.

"I should get going."

Haley went to step around him but Aaron stopped her and before she could do anything he kissed her. She pulled away quickly and this time she managed to step around him closing the door behind her.

"I need to leave."

And with the Haley ran down the hall the hall to her truck.

It was dark by the time she arrived and the weather had changed. It was pouring with rain so by the time she made it up the stairs she was soaked. She knocked on the door and waited till it opened.

"Dear, what are you doing here."

"Grandma." Haley said as her tears started to fall.

"Come in sweetheart, come in."

As she ushered her in Sophie immediately told her to dry herself off while Sophie made tea. Something told her that this conversation would need tea.

As she watched Haley settle in front of the fire Sophie brought over the tray of tea and home-made cookies.

"So sweetheart are you going to tell me why your here?"

"I've messed up grandma and I don't know what to do."

Sophie embraced Haley as she started to sob. "Sshh dear it will all be okay. It will all be okay." After a few moments Haley pulled away wiping at her eyes and taking a sip of her tea.

"You've seen him haven't you?" Sophie noted the confusion. "Jackson." Haley just nodded. "First love dies hard." Sophie mumbled taking a sip of her own tea.

"It's just so hard."

"Love is hard." Haley shifted to look at her grandma better. "Anyone who says love is easy is lying. Knowing who you love is the easy part but the rest of it you have to work at it ."

"But no one wants us to be together."

"Everyone else will move on, this is about you and him."

Haley wiped at tears. " Why are you being so nice about this. My Dad..."

"Your Dad is just being protective because he loves you." She took Haley's hand in hers. "Did I ever tell you about my first love."

"Grandad?"

"No. Now I did love your grandfather but no my first love was when I was 16. Bobby Stevens. He was a couple of years ahead of me but I fell in love with him. It was love at first sight for both of us."

"What happened?"

"Similar to you no one wanted us together, it was a very different time back then and Bobby he was black, and I was a Middle classed white girl."

"We're you together?"

"As I said dear it was different times. I had to follow my parents, we left town. Bobby and I wrote to one another but as time moved on the letters got less and less and then 3 years later I found out he'd been killed in a hit and run."

"I'm so sorry."

"It was a long time ago. But my point is and take it from an old lady, life is to short."

"Thanks grandma." The two embraced each other in a hug before Sophie pulled away. "You should go get some sleep. You look tired."

"I am." Haley admitted and there was something in her eyes that concerned Sophie.

"Is there anything else you want to talk about?"

Haley just shook her head even though she could feel more tears burn in her eyes. "I'm going to go to bed."

And with that Haley kissed her grandmother on her cheek and got to her feet. As she headed upstairs Haley tried to hide her sob.
