Again, not the most challenging of hints: A Scandal in Bohemia was the debut story of Irene Adler, who was always perceived by fans of the Sherlock Holmes stories as a potential love interest. Kyoko Kirigiri and Toko Fukawa are a detective and an author respectively, so the theme is clear.

Must Romeo Die?

Their relationship was a secret best kept hidden for a number of reasons.

Future Foundation had no need to know that Kyoko Kirigiri, one of the rising members of the organisation, was involved in a lesbian relationship with Toko Fukawa, the sole Killing Game survivor to not be permitted entry.

Its enemies really did not need to know about an emotional weak point of Kyoko Kirigiri, the otherwise unflappable Ultimate Detective. While Fukawa had the means to defend herself even without the organisation, it would be an unnecessary risk.

All in all, it was quite a dramatic "love story" between the two. Kirigiri could not help but think in the cliché of "Romeo and Juliet".

She mentioned that one time. Fukawa mumbled something and did not further entertain the idea. Afterwards, she developed a habit of making that reference. Fukawa looked more displeased every time she did.

One day, Kirigiri's girlfriend explained her distaste: "The intended le-lesson of Romeo and Juliet is "Teenage love makes you an i-idiot". I don't know about y-you, but I am not an idiot, so the c-comparison is insulting!"

Kirigiri mulled over it.

Eventually, she came to agree with her lover.

First off, if you think I am projecting my personal distaste of the Romeo and Juliet cliché on Toko ... you are 100% right, though I am going to insist it's still very much in character. If you took the time to read the drabbles so far, thank you very much and I hope you look forward to the next ones.

The hint for Monday's pairing is Morgan Robertson.
