A/N: Wow, two updates this close together? I'm on a roll right now! Anyway this one's based on a prompt from bellydancer10 who wanted a chapter on how Jasmine's father reacts when he finds out she's pregnant

Jasmine's hands shook with both nervousness and excitement as she waited in her father's office. It hadn't been that long since he'd abdicated the throne and passed the title of Sultan (or rather Sultana) to her, yet he still remained close by in case she needed a little help or advice.

He no longer had his duties as Sultan, but he was still an important figure in the everyday palace life. Thus he'd kept his office wihle Jasmine constructed a new one for herself.

But now she sat perched on the edge of his desk, wringing her hands together while she waited. The news she had to share with him was certainly good, but for some reason it still sent anxiety coursing through her veins.

When her father finally walked into his office, she smiled at the look of surprise on his face.

"Jasmine, what a lovely surprise." He took her hands in his and kissed her cheek in greeting. "I haven't seen you in a few days, my dear."

Jasmine chuckled. "Well you know how the duties of the Sultan are."

He gave her a knowing look. "Keeping you busy, are they?"

"More than. Sometimes I think I ought to set up a bed in my office with how little I seem to leave it."

"Well I'm sure your husband would have some choice words to say about that."

Jasmine smirked. "He's probably the only reason I don't fall asleep there. I can't tell you how many times he's had to come rescue me before I drown in paperwork."

The former Sultan laughed. "Reminds me of your mother. I don't know if you remember since you were very little, but she would have to do the exact same thing for me."

She grinned, remembering those days fondly. "I do remember that. You would be practically sleeping standing up and she'd be dragging you by your ear back to your room so you could get sleep in a real bed. You may have ruled Agrabah, but she definitely ruled over you."

"And I let her do it with pleasure," he smirked wiggling his eyebrows.

"Baba!" Jasmine gasped scandalized by her father's implication.

"Don't act so surprised, my dear. You're a married woman now, I'm sure you know all about that by now."

If she hadn't been so embarrassed, this would've been the perfect segue, but as it were, she had to take a moment to regain her composure as her cheeks reddened significantly.

Taking pity on her, her father changed the subject with a laugh. "So what brings you to me, my dear? Do you seek my counsel?"

"Actually," she took a deep breath, "there's something I need to share with you."

"Does it have anything to do with the fainting spells you've been having?" he asked.

She looked at him in surprise, but in all honesty, she shouldn't have been. Rumors and gossip kept a palace alive and thriving. And nothing spread faster than things that occurred within the royal family.

"You may be Sultana now, but you're still my daughter," he told her. "It will always be hard for you to keep things from me."

"It's not that I meant to keep things from you," she said. "I just wanted to wait until the right time to tell you."

"Tell me what?" he had a twinkle in his eye and if she didn't know any better, she would have thought he had guessed her secret already.

"That you're…you're going to be a grandfather." She had just gotten the words out of her mouth when her father collapsed to his knees in front of her. "Baba?"

His shoulders shook and he grasped her hands tight, pressing his forehead against her knuckles.

"Baba?" she asked, the concern rising in her voice.

He looked up at her and she heaved a sigh of relief at the grin on his weathered face. Tears shone in his eyes as they freely made tracks down his cheeks.

"So it's true?" he finally spoke. "You are pregnant?"

"Yes," she nodded, unable to keep from smiling.

Her father laughed and shook his head. "I had suspected as much when I had heard of your recent illness."

"You knew? But how?"

"You forget, I was there when your mother was pregnant with you. I remember all too well what it was like for her. The sickness, the tiredness, and yes, even the fainting. She did the same thing when we first found out about you.

"But to hear you say it out loud," he said, kissing her hands repeatedly. "It's truly a remarkable thing."

Jasmine had her own set of tears streaming down her face by now. She knew her father would be happy about her news, but she had no idea he would react this way. To see him so overcome with emotion was such a rare thing.

Getting to his feet, he embraced his daughter, whispering in her ear, "Your mother would be so proud of you."

Jasmine felt her throat catch, her arms wrapping tighter around him. "I wish she was here."

"Me too. She would have loved to have been here for this. To watch you grow up and become the amazing young woman you are." Pulling back, he lightly touched her stomach, still flat with no signs of the life growing within her yet. "And she would've spoiled this child rotten."

Jasmine snorted, wiping the tears from her face. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do your fair share of that as well. Aladdin says if it's a girl, the rest of the Palace doesn't stand a chance."

Her father guffawed and shook his head in agreement. "I always knew you picked a smart one."
