St. Patrick's Day blessing upon you
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
It had been a very busy time lately. Hectic, would be more sufficiently stated. The slender build , long blonde New Englander was glad it was over, for now. He was paging through a file. With a satisfied look he closed it, got up and put it in the file cabinet with 'Closed' on the drawer. He looked round. The others were all working themselves or busy elsewhere. 'My dear friends, it's well beyond lunch, and I say it's time to catch up on that lost piece of quality time.' They looked up, but no one made any attempts to join him.
He stood next to his desk and raised his brows, wondering. 'What, nobody care to join me?'
'Nah, I've had my bit of tucker, you go ahead, I'll be apples', Bobby said. Jack snickered a little but Myles paid no attention to it. ' Jack?'
'Just spend my last green...' Myles frowned. He looked round. Sue was the only one left. 'Miss Thomas, can I have the privilege of your presence?' Sue bit her lip, stifling a laugh. She held up a slice of a green pepper. 'I'm already spoken for.'
Unusual, he thought, but he did not think much of it. 'Well, I failed to persuade anyone but myself. I'll be back in a while', he said.
Lost in thought Myles walked down the hall towards the elevator. In any other years he would have picked up the hints, the hidden message behind words. But, as it had been said before, it had been hectic the last weeks.
He reached the elevator and pressed the button. After a while the doors slid open and he stepped in. It was empty and he pressed the button for the 1st floor where the Bureau's cafeteria was located. The doors closed and the elevator started to descend. On the fourth it halted and a ginger-haired, fairly attractive woman stepped in. He gave her his neutral but well mannered smile. She smiled back and stood next to him. The doors closed again and once again the elevator descended.
Myles was somewhat absent minded and looked at the changing numbers above the doors.
He was musing about the last details of his last case when suddenly he was violently disrupted from his day dreaming. What the...
His eyes went wide, but he somehow managed to suppress to swing round. That's impossible, did I felt it right? Being the well mannered, well educated gentleman himself, he at first held it for impossible she had actually done what he thought he had experienced. The second time made it crystal-clear he had been right. He stared at her in sheer disbelief.
'What...', he managed to stammer, his shocked eyes met with a pair of hazel ones glimmering with impishness. It only added to his confusion. The elevator halted, the doors slid open. The woman smiled at him as she slid past him and winked. 'You asked for it sweetheart...', she said. 'And the pleasure was well and truly mine.'
He stared her down as she walked away.
I can't believe she pinched me there... twice
It was not until now he realized she was wearing a green skirt. Now he thought of it, green seemed to be the prevalent color today. He looked down at his own outfit: not a single piece of it was dyed in the color that would have prevented the experience he just had.
Of course...
Just before the doors closed again he stepped out of the elevator. He looked round and down the hall leading to the cafeteria. People all clad in at least something green. Three not altogether unattractive women were walking in his direction. He could see they had noticed the absence of a vital piece of wardrobe. The corners of his mouth curled up in a unholy smile.
Maybe today it's not too bad after all to lack some green...
