8- Back to life
Emma rode back home with The sheriff, and Regina was left alone with her thoughts on the ride back to town. How she wished she had actually made a move on her partner. How many times she had thought of just kissing her as she teased her about something or another.
She looked around the bus, and even Ruby was a bit more subdued than usual. Regina sighed and reached for her cell.
Regina: Did you talk to her before she took off?
Ruby looked up from her phone and turned to face Regina's seat then shook her head when she saw Regina looking back at her.
Ruby: I have never seen her like that. Not that I have known her all that long.
Regina: I wonder what happened.
Ruby: Me too…
Emma ran to her room the momen't David parked the car. She was so dismally embarrassed at the display she made that weekend. She had gotten hysterical the momen't Mary came to her and held her, and blamed her for all the emotions she had been feeling. Because How could she take her camping, that was what she did with her daddy. Now the memory was forever changed with this trauma.
But she knew it wasn't Mary's fault. And none of it was rational and she was going to apologize profusely to Mary the moment she saw her again. Her phone chimed for about a million times. She checked the messages.
Ruby: Hey You okay?
Ruby: Come on emms … no response?
Ruby: Emma come on. I just want to know if you are okay.
Then there were other texts.
Regina: Emma… Are you okay?
Regina: Please answer me…
Regina: I'm Here okay? You can talk to me.
Emma sighed and texted Regina back.
Emma: Thanks.
Then she turned back to Rube's texts at another buzz.
Ruby: I'm coming over, The bus is pulling up to the school now.
Emma's eyes widened and she was quick to respond then.
Emma: Nah Rubz… I'm okay just hella embarrassed see you monday.
Ruby: You're not the only person to ever fall apart Emma you don't need to be embarrassed. But fine, I'll stay home call me if you need anything anytime okay?
Emma: Thanks Rubes.
With a sigh Emma turned her phone completely off and retreated into herself for the rest of the night.
Mary was tired. The moment she walked into her apartment she just crashed on her couch. Emma's breakdown had taken her by surprise, but she knew it had to happen sometime. David looked up and smiled as he watched his wife sit tiredly on the sofa. The two women he cared the most about in this world were hurting. He had met their parents. He'd been lucky enough to know how great they were with their daughters and he wanted to be there for them through their loss.
He remembered how it had been when his own mother had died and he tried to be there for them as much as possible. The sheriff ambled toward the living room and dropped down on the couch next to his wife. He leaned closer and cuddled her as she searched for something on the television. "It took a year, but it happened." David whispered in his wife's ear.
"God I'm so relieved." She said. "She was holding all of that back and I don't know how to help her deal. Maybe she should go talk to Archie about it."
"That sounds like a good idea." David said softly. "I think that maybe if you go together it might get her to open up. Plus, you haven't dealt with it much either."
"David I cried…" Mary said indignantly.
"Crying isn't everything… You have had no real time to process your parent's deaths either. Come on Mary, you know I'm right."
His wife sighed and sagged next to him. She knew he was right. Plus how was she supposed to show Emma how to deal with grief if she didn't deal with her own. She nodded. "I think I'll go this week… Just me." Mary shrugged . "and we will work on how to broach the subject with Emma Later."
He smiled and squeezed her a bit. "Atta girl."
Regina parked in her driveway with a sigh. Back to her cave. As she pulled up, she Noticed Robin's parents' car was in the driveway. She furrowed her brows as she had assumed she never had to see the moron again.
She parked to the side ensuring not to block anyone with her car, then climbed out. Reaching for the back seat to get her bag, she walked gingerly to the door. She opened the door and the first thing she heard was Robin's mother' s voice saying. "I don't understand… I thought Robin was with Regina?"
This piqued Regina's interest. So she set her bag down as quietly as possible and headed toward the voices. "This can't be happening." Was Robin's dad.
"Are you calling my Zelena a liar?" That was Daddy.
"My daughter may be many things mr. Locksley, but a liar is not one of them." Mother said primly. "We brought you here to inform you of her condition, and what she is planning. Nothing more."
Condition? Regina's heart pounded and walked into the living room as the six of them sat around. The tension was so thick it was hard to breathe. "She can have an abortion." Robin said.
"What?" Regina whispered, and though it was only a whisper it fell into the room as heavily as though she had dropped a bolt of thunder on to it's center.
Zelena was pale and her features were angry. "I was told I was to never have children. This is a miracle. I am keeping it. It could be my only chance to have a child."
"Zee?" Regina said covering her mouth.
Robin turned to Regina. "Regina, it was that one time I swear it…"
"Save it Robin. I've known of your dalliances for a while. Why do you think I wouldn't sleep with you? I hope you didn't give my sister an STD." Regina spat at him
Robin's parents looked at her in shock, but her sister chortled as Regina came to her defence. "All clean Little sis." Zelena responded then looked at Robin. "Went to the hospital yesterday to check myself out."
Regina came over to her sister and held her protectively. "You did what you had to do, you told them, it's up to them to accept you or not. I'm here for you sis." She whispered.
"Thank you," Zelena whispered back.
Regina straightened up and hugged her father and her mother for having heard her defence of her sister.
