"Today is the day your babies are born!" Mrs. Nolan stated on Thursday morning. Emma and the rest of the pregnant parents were happy to be turning in their belly vests. The beginning of the week had been brutal, Her spouse Had ditched her. She didn't come to class. Oh she came to school. Because her mother required her to. But She just wouldn't come to life skills class. Then on Wednesday she finally showed up. And she sat way in the back. Far away from her wife.
Emma felt discarded. She'd been fucked and dumped and she never thought she could trust someone else with her body again.
For her part, Regina couldn't get Emma out of her mind. She was longing for her. Just her. The scene of their love making, playing over and over in her mind. So she would wallow in her room and breathe in the lingering reminder of what she had done with her.
Regina cried every night for Emma, and steeled herself every day to see her. But she never had the courage to walk into that classroom until Wednesday.. And then she didn't have the guts to sit next to her.. Today she was a little bit closer to the blonde. Though not sitting next to her..
"If you got a vest this weekend, come and pick up your baby.. "You get them the first night."
"What!" one of the pregnant students shouted. "No Fair, We were already uncomfortable the whole week, why can't they suffer?"
Mrs. Nolan seemed to consider this. "Fine, When you get your kid, you can pass the baby along. There was a line by Mary's desk so Emma hung back. She knew Regina wouldn't want to co-parent anyway, so she sat and waited for the line to die down. "One more, who has my last vest…:" Mary said and smiled as Emma approached the table. She handed the vest over, and held her baby close. She smiled at him, it was weird he looked real.
Emma sat down at the desk not even moving to give him to her wife.
Annoyed, Regina stumped over toward Emma. "Give me my son."
Emma looked at her. "I don't think so., " Emma said. "I carried him around, I keep him. One lousy massage gives you no right to him." Emma spat at the brunette.
"It's half my grade." Regina argued back.''
"No, you'll probably bring him back to me broken."
"Ladies!" Mrs. Nolan interrupted. "Emma, give the baby to Regina. All of you should have a turn with the baby at least three nights."
Emma shoves Henry toward Regina. Then the bell rings, and Emma stomps out.
Later that afternoon, Emma sat at a booth at Grannies eating burger and onion rings. Her foot pulled up so that she could tuck her chin on her knee. Ruby is waiting tables, her baby girl on her hip. The coquettish girl is making the best of it. Emma smirked and reached for an onion ring, peeling the fried exterior from the onion and dipping it in the ketchup. Next to her plate she had her trig homework open, and she worked on a problem. Then there was a crying baby ringing above her head. Emma looked up and Regina was standing there holding a crying Henry.
"He won't stop." Regina said.
"Not my problem," Emma responded and went back to her problem.
"Emma please, take him for five minutes while I go to the restroom."
Emma reaches for her robot son and watched Regina walk away. Then she looked at the doll and grabbed the corresponding bag they had gotten for him. She reached for the magnetic bottle and began to feed the doll, then turned back to her problem as the baby quieted.
Regina took a long time in the bathroom, so long that Emma was able to finish the feeding and burping the baby by the time its' other mother showed up. "How did you get it to stop?"
"I fed it." Emma stated placing the magnetic bottle on the table. "That bag has what it needs."
"That thing cried through my entire practice," Regina said sitting in front of Emma.
"Again, not my problem." Emma stated.
"This is half your grade too Emma." Regina said.
"This was your night Regina." Emma said angrily. "If you weren't so hell bent on ignoring me after we did what we did, you would have had a babysitter for your brat. Now can you leave? I have a lot of homework."
Regina's nose flared and she stood. "I can't imagine a brat like you can understand what it's like."
Emma ignored the princess and went back to her work. Regina growled and stomped out of Granny's. Meanwhile at her table Emma sniffled. Holding herself tight.
Henry was up all night and Regina was positive that Emma had programmed him to do that and never stop. She was so tired. She paced, bounced, fed, burped, changed the child and still it was crying.
Not knowing what to do, Regina called Emma.
"What." Emma said. She sounded upset.
"He won't stop." Regina stated. "Please help me!"
She heard a sigh on the other end of the line. A door open, a television in the background. "Mary, our baby is defective." Emma stated. "I don't know Regina is calling me telling me he won't stop crying! I'll go over… okay." another sigh and then Regina knew Emma was talking to her. "I'll be there in ten."
They hung up and Regina went downstairs bouncing the baby and pacing by the door. "Your mommy is coming Henry, you'll be just fine."
The blonde stood at the door ten minutes later. Wild golden curls tumbling around her shoulders, Emma was in pajamas under her red Jacket. Emma looked at how Regina was holding Henry and sighed. "Why are you holding him as if he were luggage and not an actual kid.?'
"Because he is not an actual Kid." Regina answered. And Emma took Henry. She held him close, sure she felt silly, but she also wanted Regina to shut up about it.
"Can I sit?" Emma asked, " I walked here."
'Yeah, come to my room." Regina stated.
Emma hesitated. "I'm not going back in that room unless I'm your girlfriend." then she sat on the stairs.
"Whatever," Regina stated sitting next to her on the steps.
From upstairs, Cora heard that ridiculous baby crying, and came out to encourage her daughter to remove the things batteries. Then she saw the blonde girl sitting at the bottom of the stairs next to her daughter. Emma was patting the the little robot's back comfortingly, and the thing stopped. She could hear the hushed conversation the two were having.
"I know what I said, but that was before… I trusted you, and you used me to get your rocks off and dumped me." the blonde stated. She looked under the things shirt, flipped it over then slammed the baby on Regina's lap. "You are just as bad as Robin." then she stood and walked toward the door.
"Let me drive you home." Regina said standing.
"I'm fine," she stated.
"Emma it's late and believe it or not I don't want anything to happen to you. I really like you, it's just my mother..."
"You need to stop using your mother as an excuse. She's not stupid or blind." The blonde turned to the door and opened it. "If she did have a problem with your sexuality, she would have probably showed up at my family's door and forbid me to see you by now. You have it in your head that she's some evil witch out to destroy your life. At least you have your mother…" the blonde sounded as though she were about to cry so she turned and fled.
Then Regina stood staring at the door holding their project child like a proper baby this time. Cora walked down the stairs toward her dejected daughter, hoping what the blonde had told her would cause her to open up. "Oh Finally, you got that robobrat to stop,"
Regina looked at her mother. And began to put her guard up. Cora could see it. So she rushed to say something else..
"I suppose, you're going to make a wonderful mother some day, Dear." She stopped next to her, seeing that nothing was forthcoming she forged ahead. "What's wrong, Regina?" Cora's bows furrowed. And reached out for her daughter. She saw her daughter's countenance crack the moment Cora's hand hit her shoulder.
Cora pulled her in and held her baby and Cora's heart melted when she didn't pull away and just began to cry in her mother's arms.. Cora stroked Regina's hair and kissed her cheek. She wasn't sure she should ask, and hoped her daughter would say something. Anything. "I'm so glad you're alive." Regina said in a whisper." Then pulled away and headed toward her bedroom.
Cora's eyes followed her up the stairs. And she sighed. That wasn't exactly what she was hoping for , but she would take it.
