It was the middle of the day in Atlas, the rennovations being done on the New York Public Library in Atlas were still in progress, but only a few minor exterior ones were left, meaning people can go in and out of the library as they please as long as they don't get in the way of the construction.

Inside the library was the librarian, doing her job as usual, pushing the cart and picking up books that are to be re-shelved elsewhere in the library. One book in particular was to go into the area known as 'Special Collections', the book was called 'The Grimmerian Codex'. People didn't stop by to chat with the sweet and innocent librarian ince they knew she was busy with part of her job.

After collection some of the books to be shelved downstairs from the upper level of the library, she went downstairs. While shelving a couple of books, she didn't notice at first that a few books were repositioned to other shelves by an un-seen entity. When looking back, the books had all been fully moved, the librarian having not noticed the moving books.

She stops for a second at a side table to set down a spare books and then started writing on a clipboard to log the book in the library's collection. When resuming walking, she brought the clipboard and pen with her as she walked past a few drawers of note cards all with data on various books.

As she walked past the drawers, some of them one by one started coming out on their own, notes being sent flying everywhere. At the sound of the notes flying, she looked back. And when she saw all of the notes flying everywhere for seemingly no reason, she went running, the sight scaring her. She kept running, managing to dodge books as they get flung off of various shelves.

The more she ran, the worse she was feeling about what she might see. When she turned a corner, she saw something that scare her and even made her scream, whatever she sees even blowing her hair back as a loud roar was heard.

The view then cuts to a more peaceful view, to a university in Atlas, and a single word fades on screen.

GRIMMBUSTERS

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call?
Grimmbusters!

The university itself was as active as ever. Visitors, students, and employees going in and out as they would.

If there's something weird, and it don't look good, who ya gonna call?
Grimmbusters!

Down in a lower area of the university, one person in particular named Jaune Arc, was running a test on a couple of students. A male student named Steven and a female student named Jennifer, the students were hooked up to a electrical shock machine that would shock them at the push of a button. The study was effect of negative re-enforcement on ESP ability. The door had in red letters painted on it that said, "ARC, BURN IN HELL!" and under that, it had three names. Dr. Jaune Arc, Dr. Neptune Vasilias, and Dr. Lie Ren.

"Okay, i'm gonna turn over the next card. I want you to concentrate." Jaune said to the male student, holding up a card. "And I want you to tell me what you think it is."

The male student put a couple of finger to his head and began concentrating, trying to guess what picture was on the card.

"Square." Steven guessed

Jaune turned the card around and it was a diamond.

"Good guess, but wrong." Jaune said as he sat the card down in a separate stack

Jaune then flicked a switch which shocked Steven a little as Jaune wrote something down on a small paper he had. Then, he turned to Jennifer as he held up another card.

"Alright, tell me what you think it is." Jaune said

Jennifer took a second to think, but eventually got a guess.

"Is it a star?" Jennifer asked

Jaune turned the card around as he wrote something else down and said, "It is a star, very good."

After he finished writing down what he was writing, he turned back to the Steven with another card for him to guess.

"Think hard." Jaune says. "What is it?"

After a few seconds, Steven got a guess.

"Circle." Steven guessed

Jaune turned the card around, revealing it was actually a square.

"Close, but definitely wrong." Jaune said, setting the card down and shocking him again with the small machine before writing something else down

Jaune then drew another card from the stack and turned to Jennifer.

"Alright." Jaune starts, putting his pencil to his head for a second. "What is it?"

"Figure eight." Jennifer guessed

After some silence, Jaune looked at the card, which was a cross but he decided to make it seem that she got it right, in a chance to get with her/

"Incredible. That's five for five." Jaune says, putting the card down. "You can't see these, can you?"

"No, no." Jennifer replied

"You're not cheating me, are you?" Jaune asked jokingly

"No, I swear, they're just coming to me." Jennifer stated

Jaune then turned back to Steven and asked, "Nervous?"

"Yes." Steven answers. "I don't like this..."

"You only have 75 more to go, okay?" Jaune said as he held up a card. "What's this one?"

Steven took a close look at the back of the card to try to formulate a guess. It took him a bit, but he eventually got a guess.

"Just a couple of wavy lines." Steven guessed

While the shape was wavy lines, he got teh number wrong. Couple would be correct if there was two wavy lines on the card, but there were four.

Jaune set the card down and said, "Sorry, this isn't your lucky day."

"I know..." Steven replied

Jaune was reaching towards the machine, a smug look on his face, and Steven stuttering a little. When he shocked him again, Steven disconnected himself from the machine and stood up quickly.

"I'm getting a little tired of this!" Steven snapped

"You volunteered, didn't you? We're paying you, aren't we?" Jaune asked

"Yeah, but I didn't know you were gonna be giving me electric shocks." Steven commented. "What are you trying to prove here, anyway?"

"I'm studying the effect of negative reinforcement on ESP ability." Jaune said, putting his hands together

"The effect? I'll tell you what the effect is, IT'S PISSING ME OFF!" Steven snapped

"Well, then maybe my theory is correct!" Jaune replied

"You can keep the five Lien, i've had it." Steven said as he left the room

"I will, mister!" Jaune says in response as he sat down next to Jennifer. "You might as well get used to that. It's the kind of resentment your ability is gonna provoke in someone."

"Do you think I have it, Dr. Arc?" Jennifer asked

Jaune scoffed and said "Well, you're no fluke, Jennifer."

Just then, Neptune Vasilias came into the room, seeming excited about something.

"This is it!" Neptune said, still excited as he walked over to a shelf. "This is definitely it!"

As Neptune grabbed a few things from the shelf like a camera, he looked over at Jaune while grabbing what he was grabbing.

"Did those UV lenses come in for the video camera? And that blank tape, I need it." Neptune said. "The one we erased yesterday."

Jaune took a silent yet deep breath

"Can you excuse me for a second?" Jaune asked to Jennifer

Jennifer nodded as Jaune got up and walked over to Neptune.

"I'm right in the MIDDLE OF SOMETHING, Neptune!" Jaune said, pretty much smacking Neptune over the side of the head. "I need a little more time with this specimen. Could you come back in maybe an hour, hour and a half?"

'Jaune, at 1:40 PM, at the main branch of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue, ten people witnessed a fee-floating, full-torso vaporous apparition." Neptune explains. "It flew books off shelves from 20 feet away and scared the socks off some poor librarian."

The whole time, Jaune simply had a blank look on his face.

"I'm very excited, i'm very pleased." Jaune said. "I want you to get right on down there and check it out and then get back to me."

"No, no, no, you're coming with us on this one." Neptune protested. "Ren went down there, took PKE valences, went right off the top of the scale, BURIED THE NEEDLE! We're close on this one, I can feel it!"

Jaune rolled his eyes as he sat back down as Neptune left the room.

"I gotta go now, Jennifer." Jaune said. "But I would like to work with you some more, perhaps you could come back this evening at...let's say..."

"Eight o'clock?" Jennifer suggested

"I was just about to say, 'Eight o'clock'?" Jaune said, chuckling a little with Jennifer. "You are a legitimate phenomenon.
