AMK
-Somewhere on Governor Island-
"Report."
His first ranking lieutenant saluted and clasped his boots, "Yes sir!"
The observatory was eerily quiet on a night like tonight. It sat inside a newly constructed facility off the coast of the main Island, a height that rivaled even the new trade centers in its iconic images.
A man in a white lab coat stood on the northern end of a round disc that made up the main hub, he stood solemnly in silence, his presence alone emanated strictness and proper respect as one would expect from the director of a secret organization, a specialized task force in part of a whole undercover program funded by the government.
"Just as he predicted, the bait worked. The battle had commenced just short of 2100 hours, and my scouts reported the targets have retreated."
"I see,"
"Should I send word to command and begin our operation?"
Stood facing the end-to-end windows wrapped around the observatory, his sights set overlooking the entire city basked in yellow lights. Yet, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Of course, not when their facility was off the record and able to hide in plain sight.
He hesitated.
The man's gaze drifted toward the night skies. It was so dark, clouds thick enough to block out any light from the celestial realm above, leaving only a purple hue.
Unreachable…
He often pondered whether that place was visible in planes high above the clouds. It was nothing but a silly thought. An existence that was entirely ephemeral, the naked human eye could never hope to capture that realm and all its beautiful mythos.
A sigh escaped his lips.
"Proceed as planned, lieutenant."
The soldier repeated his salute and promptly left the area. Left alone, the man took out a pack of mint Mentos and popped one in his mouth. It wasn't his favorite taste, but it kept his mouth fresh, and hopefully, mince his next words.
"I should have expected you'll get in here without triggering any alarms."
A shadow revealed himself along with a sardonic laugh.
"Well…" His voice croaked, "I am the one who help you build this damn place, didn't I?"
"I supposed." The man shoved his Mentos back into his lab coat, "So, I assumed you've done what you needed?"
He nodded, "And now, they won't be able to hide from this world any longer. I surely hoped you won't be the first one who fails me, but I trust you'll do your job to perfection."
The man kept his composure.
"As I said already, your daughter is the only reason why I've entrusted this operation to you." His smirk would have chilled even the most seasonal soldier on the planet, and even he had a hard time keeping his calm without swallowing his urge to gulp, "So I implore you… Don't fuck this up, Dr. Dare."
Keeping his demonic gaze in his sight, the man sighed and made his way for the exit, his lab coat flailed behind him as he walked away.
"I won't fail."
